(Coleoptera Coccinellidae) in choice condition. Experiments were carried out in glass petri dishes at 25°C, 70% RH, using a 5x4 grid with 10 eggs of exotic and 10 of natives arranged alternatively. One larva or adult of coccinellid was put in the arena and was observed for one hour. Each experiment was replicated 15 times. H. axyridis larvae and adults, and A. bipunctata adults, showed a preference to prey and eat their own eggs rather than interspecific eggs; these dif- ferences were detected for both naive and experienced females and larvae. For A. bipunctata larvae no differences were observed between IGP and CANN in choice conditions. The results indicate a tendency for both species to attack and eat their own eggs rather than interspecific eggs. The risk of introduction of exotic generalist predators is discussed, with particular attention to coc- cinellids. Laboratory experiments on intra-guild predation could give a preliminary indication of the potential for competition between an exotic ladybird and a native one. Sand pit for Biodiversity at Cep II quarry Researcher: Klára Řehounková Research group: Petr Bogusch, David Boukal, Milan Boukal, Lukáš Čížek, František Grycz, Petr Hesoun, Kamila Lencová, Anna Lepšová, Jan Máca, Pavel Marhoul, Klára Řehounková, Jiří Řehounek, Lenka Schmidtmayerová, Robert Tropek Březen – září 2012 Abstract We compared the effect of restoration status (technical reclamation, spontaneous succession, disturbed succession) on the communities of vascular plants and assemblages of arthropods in CEP II sand pit (T řebo ňsko region, SW part of the Czech Republic) to evaluate their biodiversity and conservation potential. We also studied the experimental restoration of psammophytic grasslands to compare the impact of two near-natural restoration methods (spontaneous and assisted succession) to establishment of target species. The sand pit comprises stages of 2 to 30 years since site abandonment with moisture gradient from wet to dry habitats. In all studied groups, i.e. vascular pants and arthropods, open spontaneously revegetated sites continuously disturbed by intensive recreation activities hosted the largest proportion of target and endangered species which occurred less in the more closed spontaneously revegetated sites and which were nearly absent in technically reclaimed sites. Out results provide clear evidence that the mosaics of spontaneously established forests habitats and open sand habitats are the most valuable stands from the conservation point of view. It has been documented that no expensive technical reclamations are needed to restore post-mining sites which can serve as secondary habitats for many endangered and declining species. The experimental restoration of rare and endangered plant communities seems to be efficient and promising method for a future large-scale restoration projects in abandoned sand pits. -

A species list, identification key, short diagnoses and illustrations of all taxa are given. Brief information on known ecological preferences of species is given. INTRODUCTION Anthicidae are a cosmopolitan family of small to medium-sized, fast-moving beetles of the superfamily Tenebrionoidea. Anthicidae are represented in the World fauna by approximately 100 genera, and about 3500 species (Chandler, 2010). Only a few species are known from the fossil record. The last revision of the British Anthicidae was published by F. D. Buck (1954) in the well-known series Handbooks for the Identification of British Insects. Since then, there have been numerous nomenclatural changes within Anthicidae, and some additional species (introduced) have been recorded from the UK, making Buck’s key out of date. During 2004 and 2005 a total of 3356 specimens of Anthicidae from the UK and Ireland were examined by the author, mainly from the collections of The Natural History Museum (London), Oxford University Museum of Natural History and National Museum of Ireland. Additional data for more than 2100 specimens were received from other British museums and private collections between 2005 and 2007. A new key and short diagnoses for the genera are presented, as well as data on habitats and general distribution of species. -

This study shows how forest regrowth affects beetle species associated with old oaks in south-eastern Sweden. Beetles were trapped by pitfall traps placed in hollows and window traps placed near hollows in oak trunks in pasture woodlands. We assessed the influence of forest regrowth, tree size and original canopy cover on the species richness of saproxylic beetles (a total of 120 species identified) and the occurrence of 68 saproxylic beetle species in particular. -

In this study, two new genera of Desmiphorini (Lamiinae) are proposed: Cleidaria gen. nov., to include Cleidaria cleidae sp. nov. from the state of Chiapas in Mexico, and Obscenoides gen. nov. for Desmiphora (D.) compta Martins & Galileo, 2005. The shape of tarsal claws of Cleidaria cleidae sp. nov. (abruptly narrowed from basal half) is so far, not found in any current genera of the tribe. With respect to Obscenoides compta (Martins & Galileo, 2005) comb. nov., the genitalia of males have an unusual shape with non-retractile parameres. The character combination related to this genital structure is unknown to us in other species in the family, and hypotheses about its function are suggested. Key-Words. INTRODUCTION The family popularly known as 'click-beetles' is designated Elateridae under superfamily Elateroidea in the suborder Polyphaga. The larvae of these primarily nocturnal beetles are known as 'wire wonns', a serious pest of certain crops (Stebbing, 1914). These beetles are found throughout India where extensive vegetative covers are in extant. Some however, have been collected from' sandy beds of hilly, areas (members of the genus Meristhus). The name of the family Elateridae Leach 1815 was based on the tribe Elaterites Leach, 1815. Elaler Linnaeus, 1758 was the type genus of the tribe Elaterites ... Supra specific definition and limit of this family remains confusing and the classification of this group of beetles has been regarded by some chief authors as 'almost hopeless' (Stibick, 1979). However, several schemes of classification have been forwarded by different authors (Laccordaire 1857, Candeze 1891, Fiautiaux 1941, Schwarz 1906, Stibick 1979). Authorities varied in their opinion regarding limit and definition of various categories such as subtribes, tribes and subfamilies and some treat them as subfamilies of equal rank. For a number of reasons, including purposes of reference and classification, this arrangement has not been satisfactory. Several authors Hyslop (1917), Crowson (1961), Gurjeva (1969, 1974) tried to improve the elaterid classification. Stibick (1979) classified Elateridae into 12 subfamilies and 27 tribes, 5 of those tribes are again divided into 20 subtribes; most of the subfamilies of other authors have been ranked as tribe by Stibick (op.
