Applications may be inspected free of charge at the Office of the Traffic Commissioner in Leeds by any person who carries written authorisation to act in that capacity. Objections against published applications may be made in writing by a Chief Officer of Police, a local authority, a planning authority or a prescribed trade union or association within 21 days of the date on which notice of an application is published in Applications and Decisions. Objections must be made either on the grounds that any of the requirements listed in Section 13 of the Goods Vehicles (Licensing of Operators) Act 1995 are not met and/or that a nominated operating centre will be unsuitable for use as such. A copy of the objection must be sent by the objector to the applicant at the same time that it is sent to the Traffic Commissioner. The onus of proof in terms of the grounds on which an objection is lodged lies with the objector. You may fax a copy of your objection to 0113 2488521 but please note that you must send the original signed document through the post. Classification of Operator Licences – There are three classes of licence: • A Restricted (R) licence authorises the use of a goods vehicle on public roads in Great Britain for the carriage of the licence holder’s own goods in the course of his trade or business. The licence holder cannot carry goods for other people for hire or reward; • A Standard National (SN) licence allows the licence holder to carry both his own goods and goods for other people for hire or reward, on public roads in Great Britain. He can also carry his own goods on journeys abroad; • A Standard International (SI) licence allows the licence holder to carry both his own goods and goods for other people for hire or reward. These activities can be undertaken both in Great Britain and on international journeys.     COIN-LOSS AND THE ROMAN OCCUPATION OF NORTH-WEST ENGLAND DAVID SHOTTER FOR more than half a century the recording and publication of Roman coin-finds in Scotland has provided a body of evidence of immeasurable importance to all who are concerned with the study of the Roman occupation of Scottish sites.1 Elsewhere in Britain, however, whilst such work may have been undertaken with respect to individual sites, it has rarely been published on a regional basis. Over the last two decades an attempt has been made to collect all information on Roman coins found in north-west England - an area covered by the historic counties of Cumberland, Westmorland and Lancashire.2 The purpose of this compilation has been to maximise the contribution of the coin-evidence to our understanding of the Roman occupation of north-west England through which we may hope to see not just the chronology of occupation of individual sites, but also the nature of that occupation, and look further afield for evidence of the social and economic effects on the region of the concentrations of Romanised activity in the forts and their extra-mural settlements. It is, however, important to recognise the shortcomings in the evidence itself and the difficulties inherent in its interpretation. It is self-evident that we need site-samples which are as large as possible and to achieve this, we must call upon coins found at different times and in a variety of circumstances, and which have been recorded with variable levels of completeness, and even of accuracy. At most sites in north-west England, the number of coins recovered during controlled excavations has been relatively small, although Carlisle, probably the most significant site in the region, is an exception to this, with the majority of its sample of two thousand coins deriving from the work undertaken since the mid-1970s by the city's Archaeological Unit.

This is despite the fact that this was a period during which some of its most significant developments took place, including the union of three of Methodism's smaller branches in 1907 to form 'The United Methodist Church' and the Methodist Union itself in 1932 which brought together the Wesleyan Methodists, the Primitive Methodists and the United Methodists as 'The Methodist Church', which is what it remains today. Much of what has been written about the Methodist Union of 1932 concentrates on the 'big picture' with a view of what was happening at the top of the organisation (Davies1, KenF, Turner3,) and although there is reference to the responses at lower levels (district, circuit, chapel) there is not a great deal which is concerned with looking at Union from below rather than from above. Yet, as Turner4 has pointed out, Methodists 'tend to be local rather than cosmopolitan' . The rose garden has been extended, areas of moss have been turfed, two new vegetable patches have been dug and planted, a patio has been laid, new bird boxes and feeders have been erected, boulders have been relocated from along the pathway leading from Church, the mountain of leaves beneath the bamboo screen has been cleared away, several tonnes of golden gravel support areas of seating, the grass has been reseeded in places, and a rather nice lantern now hangs at the back of the Vicarage. There is always plenty to do and what busy bees we have been! The week in which I find myself composing these words has seen the “reopening of the Church” (is this an oxymoron? I rather think so). The faithful were enabled to re enter their own building and, unsurprisingly and very much in character, the first visitor to cross the threshold was the oldest St Annesite. I shan’t name them for fear of impertinence and having my ears boxed the next time I meet her, but we can probably work out who that particular person is.
