HON. PAUL BONAPFEL

PAUL W. BONAPFEL has been a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of Georgia since 2002. Prior to his appointment, he practiced law in Atlanta, Georgia, with Lamberth, Bonapfel, Cifelli & Stokes, P.A., now known as Lamberth, Cifelli, Ellis & Nason, P.A. As an attorney, Judge Bonapfel represented all types of parties in bankruptcy cases, including consumer and business debtors in liquidation cases, business debtors in reorganization cases, chapter 7 and 11 bankruptcy trustees, creditors’ committees, and creditors in both consumer and business cases.

Judge Bonapfel is a co-author, with Judge W. Homer Drake, Jr., and Adam M. Goodman, of Chapter 13 Practice and Procedure (Thomson Reuters). A fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy, he has served as chairperson of the Bankruptcy Sections of the and the Atlanta and was a director and president of the Southeastern Bankruptcy Law Institute, which presents an annual seminar on bankruptcy law and procedure. He teaches a course at Mercer Law School in Macon, Georgia, on consumer bankruptcy practice.

Judge Bonapfel received his B.A. cum laude from Florida State University in 1972 and his J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1975, where he was Notes Editor of the Georgia Law Review. He was a judicial law clerk for United States District Judge Wilbur D. Owens, Jr., in Macon, Georgia

JAMES W. BOYD was appointed as a United States Bankruptcy Judge, Western District of Michigan, in May 2014. He current presides over bankruptcy matters in Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Traverse City. Prior to his judicial service, he was a partner with the Traverse City law firm of Kuhn, Darling, Boyd and Quandt, PLC. From 1988-2014, he served as a Ch. 7 panel trustee and also served as a Ch. 11 operating and liquidation trustee in many cases. While a trustee, he served on the board of directors of the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees from 1999-2013, and was the president of that organization in 2010. Judge Boyd is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges, and the Federal Bar Association.

HON. COLLEEN BROWN

HON. COLLEEN A. BROWN was appointed to serve as the Chief United States Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Vermont on April 10, 2000, and was reappointed to a second 14-year term on October 6, 2014. Judge Brown received a B.A., cum laude, with honors in philosophy, from Colgate University in 1979, and a J.D., cum laude, from the University of Buffalo Law School in 1983.

Since being appointed to the bench, Judge Brown has served as a member of the Vermont Bar Association’s Professionalism Roundtable, Chair of the Federal-State Council for the District of Vermont, Chair of Vermont’s first Rule of Law Conference, Chair of the Federal Judges’ Committee of the National Association of Women Judges. Judge Brown has been very active in the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges since her appointment to the bench, including as the Second Circuit representative to the Board of Governors, a member of two NCBJ Education Committees, Chair of the NCBJ’s U.S. Trustee Liaison Committee, Chair of the NCBJ’s Liaison Committee to the National Association of Women Judges, and Chair of the NCBJ President’s Special Task Force for Cost Containment. She currently serves on the Vermont Bar Association’s Pro Bono Committee and Bankruptcy Section.

Judge Brown formerly served as an associate editor for the American Bankruptcy Law Journal, currently serves as an author for Collier on Bankruptcy, 15th edition revised, and frequently lectures on consumer and farm bankruptcy law. Judge Brown was the recipient of the New York 's President's Pro Bono Service Award in 1992 and the Vermont Bar Association’s Pro Bono Service Award in 2006. She has announced her retirement from the bench, effective February 2, 2022.

She and her family reside in Middlebury, Vermont.

HON. CARL BUCKI

CARL L. BUCKI has served the Western District of New York as a bankruptcy judge since his appointment to that post in December 1993. Judge Bucki graduated from Cornell University magna cum laude and with distinction in 1974, and from the Cornell Law School cum laude in 1976. After serving as confidential law clerk to the Honorable Matthew J. Jasen of the New York Court of Appeals, Carl Bucki entered the private practice of law, first at the firm of Moot & Sprague and later at the firm of Cohen, Swados, Wright, Hanifin, Bradford & Brett. From 1986 to 1993, he also held the position of national counsel for the Polish Union of America. Judge Bucki has lectured and written extensively on bankruptcy issues. He served as a governor of the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges from 2001 to 2004, and as an associate editor of the American Bankruptcy Law Journal from 2007 to 2010. Judge Bucki served as a member of the Second Circuit's Bankruptcy Appellate Panel for the four years that it was in existence, and has served as Chief Bankruptcy Judge for the Western District of New York since 2007.

HON. JAMES M. CARR

Judge Carr is a 1975 magna cum laude graduate of the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in Bloomington and was Order of the Coif. Upon graduation from law school, Judge Carr joined the Indianapolis-based law firm of Baker & Daniels. He was a partner in that firm as well as in its successor, Faegre Baker Daniels LLP. Before becoming a judge in January, 2013, Judge Carr was in private practice for 38 years and focused on the representation of business debtors and creditors in chapter 11 cases, financial restructurings and commercial litigation.

Judge Carr received a Business Bankruptcy Law certification from the American Bankruptcy Board of Certification in 1993, and is a fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy. Judge Carr served for many years as a panelist and the chair of the annual Sig Beck advanced bankruptcy roundtable presented by the Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum. He has been a panelist and chair of many seminars on bankruptcy, reorganization, creditor rights and lender liability sponsored by the Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum, Federal Bar Association, Commercial Law League and Indiana Bankers Association.

Judge Carr is an adjunct professor at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law, teaching bankruptcy and business reorganization. He currently serves on the law school’s Board of Visitors and is a past member and president of its Alumni Board.

HON. MAGDELINE COLEMAN

CHIEF JUDGE COLEMAN was appointed bankruptcy judge for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in April 2010 and was designated to serve as chief judge on June 10, 2019. She received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Prior to taking the bench, Judge Coleman worked for various law firms concentrating her law practice in bankruptcy and related litigation representing banks and other institutional creditors, commercial debtors, landlords, and various other parties. She also served as a staff attorney for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Judge Coleman later served as law clerk to former bankruptcy judge David A. Scholl.

Since taking the bench, Judge Coleman has adjudicated cases under all chapters of the Bankruptcy Code and has issued decisions addressing many aspects of bankruptcy law including complicated Chapter 11 matters.

ROBERTA A. COLTON is a bankruptcy judge for the Middle District of Florida. In addition to her judicial responsibilities, Judge Colton also serves as a member of the mediation team involved in the Puerto Rico PROMESA cases.

Prior to taking the bench, Judge Colton practiced at Trenam Law in Tampa, Florida, where she was a shareholder and a member of the firm’s Executive Board. Prior to joining Trenam, she served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable James C. Hill of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Judge Colton received her B.A. in commerce with distinction from the University of Virginia, and her J.D. from William & Mary Law School.

During her over thirty years in practice, Judge Colton was active in service to the legal profession and has been recognized for her accomplishments. Among others, she was listed in The Best Lawyers in America for Bankruptcy & Creditor Debtor Rights from 1995-2016, and named one of the top ten Super Lawyer’s in the State of Florida from 2011–16. Judge Colton served as Eleventh Circuit Regent for the American College of Bankruptcy and Chair of the Grievance Committee of the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida. She also is the former Chair of Business Law Section, Bankruptcy/UCC Committee, and the Tampa Bay Bankruptcy Bar Association.

HON. BARBARA ELLIS-MONRO

BARBARA ELLIS-MONRO was appointed to the Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Georgia in June, 2012. Judge Ellis-Monro is a 1984 graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She received her J.D. in 1992 from the University of Georgia School of Law, cum laude, and was a member of the Order of the Coif. Judge Ellis-Monro served as law clerk to the Honorable George L. Proctor (deceased), United States Bankruptcy Judge, Middle District of Florida. After her clerkship and prior to her appointment to the bench she practiced in Atlanta with three different firms. In each of these positions, Judge Ellis-Monro’s practice was primarily concentrated in the representation of chapter 11 debtors, chapter 7 trustees and creditors under all chapters of the Code. HON. MICHAEL FAGONE

MICHAEL A. FAGONE is a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Maine in Bangor, appointed in April 2015. He is also a member of the United States Bankruptcy Appellate Panel for the First Circuit, appointed in April 2016. He attended the University of Maine School of Law, graduating summa cum laude in 1997. During law school, he served on the Law Review, and was an articles editor in his third year. After graduation, Judge Fagone worked as a law clerk for Associate Justices Leigh I. Saufley and Robert W. Clifford of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. Following his clerkship, Judge Fagone joined Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer & Nelson in Portland. He was a member of Bernstein Shur’s Business Restructuring and Insolvency Practice Group from 1998 to 2000, and from 2001 to 2015. Judge Fagone currently serves on the American Bankruptcy Institute’s Board of Directors, and is a volunteer with the ABI’s financial literacy program, Credit Abuse Resistance Education (or CARE), teaching students about the responsible use of credit and the dangers of credit abuse. Judge Fagone has also volunteered for several years, as a coach and an evaluator, for Maine Law’s teams in the Conrad B. Duberstein Moot Court Competition.

BRIAN T. FENIMORE has served as a bankruptcy judge in the Western District of Missouri since August 31, 2017, and is currently the Chief Judge. CATHERINE J. FURAY is the Chief U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Western District of Wisconsin. Prior to appointment, she practiced bankruptcy, commercial law, and business litigation.

She has a J.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Wisconsin Law School and guest lectures in the Bankruptcy course.

She is a member of the Bankruptcy Judges Advisory Group of the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts and the Advisory Process Review Working Group.

Cate is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy. She is the Editor-in-Chief of Ginsberg & Martin on Bankruptcy.

Judge Furay is a member of the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges. She has served on its Board of Governors and on various committees, and she currently chairs the Finance Committee.

JUDGE CRAIG A. GARGOTTA was appointed a bankruptcy judge for the W.D. Texas on October 1, 2007. Prior to becoming a judge, Judge Gargotta was an Asst. U.S. Attorney in San Antonio from 1990-2007. Judge Gargotta has a B.A. and M.A. in History from Texas A&M University and a law degree from St. Mary's School of Law. Judge Gargotta was a law clerk to Judge Ronald B. King after graduating from St. Mary's. Judge Gargotta is a member of the NCBJ, serves as a member of the Advisory Board to the ABLJ, master in Larry E. HON. EDWARD GODOY

JUDGE GODOy graduated, cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School in Philadelphia with a B.S. degree in finance and economics. He received his J.D. degree from Columbia University Law School in New York. Judge Godoy also took postgraduate courses on the civil and commercial codes at the Faculty of Law of the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina.

Prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge Godoy was a Trial Attorney at the United States Trustee Program, Department of Justice, where he worked on chapter 7 and 11 cases and focused on combating debtor fraud and creditor abuse. Before joining the Department of Justice, he practiced law in San Juan, Puerto Rico and specialized in federal litigation, professional liability, and product liability. Judge Godoy was also a foreign law trainee at Estudio Beccar Varela in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Pinheiro Neto Advogados in São Paulo, Brazil.

Judge Godoy is a member of the state bars of New Jersey, New York, and Puerto Rico.

HON. ELIZABETH L. GUNN was appointed to serve as bankruptcy judge for the District of Columbia on September 4, 2020. A COVID-era selection and appointment, she was sworn in by Zoom from her living room and has yet to rule from an actual bench. Before her appointment, Judge Gunn served as an Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Virginia as the bankruptcy specialist for the Division of Child Support Enforcement. Prior to joining the Office of the Attorney General, Judge Gunn was in private practice in Richmond, Virginia. In 2017, Elizabeth was recognized by the American Bankruptcy Institute as a member of its inaugural class of 40 Under 40. Elizabeth serves on the board of the Federal Bar Association Bankruptcy Section, is a former board member of the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation, a former committee chair of the Consumer and Litigation Committees American Bankruptcy Institute, and is an Associate Editor of the American Bankruptcy Institute Law Journal. She is a member of the Walter Chandler Bankruptcy Inn of Court and is Board Certified in Consumer Law by the American Board of Certification. Elizabeth received her BA, cum laude, from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon and her law degree, cum laude, from Boston College Law School. Despite all these accolades, her greatest accomplishments remain her daughter Ainsley (11) and her son Corbin (8).

HON. BETH E. HANAN

BETH E. HANAN was appointed a Judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, effective May 29, 2015. She sits in Milwaukee and Green Bay. Prior to taking the bench she was an appellate lawyer and litigator in Wisconsin, and served several terms as managing member of a trial practice boutique, Gass Weber Mullins. Judge Hanan was chair of the Wisconsin Judicial Council, president of the Milwaukee Bar Association, and remains a fellow in the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers. She received her law degree from the University of Wisconsin and undergraduate degree from Marquette University. Since joining the bench, she has served as the bankruptcy representative to the Seventh Circuit Judicial Council (2019-2021), currently chairs NCBJ’s Public Outreach committee, and also is a member of NCBJ’s International Judicial Relations and Ethics committees. She has served as judicial co-chair of ABI’s annual Wedoff Consumer Conference (in 2020 renamed the Consumer Summit) for the past three years. Judge Hanan grew up on the north side of Chicago. She spent a lot of time in the bleachers of Wrigley Field, but then married a Brewers & Packers fan from the inner city of Milwaukee. Their children are fairly well-balanced, but Judge Hanan is still working to resolve her sports conflicts.

HON. MITCHELL HERREN

MITCH HERREN was appointed to serve as bankruptcy judge for the District of Kansas in July of 2020. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Law. His 33 years prior to the bench included practice with a litigation firm in Kansas City, serving as in-house litigation counsel for a large energy company, and then returning to private practice for 18 years with a Wichita-based firm where he served seven years as Managing Member and represented clients ranging from individuals to large companies, with a focus on commercial litigation. He is a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, and the American Bar Foundation.

She previously was a shareholder in the Seattle and Portland Offices of Lane Powell PC where her practice involved commercial litigation and transactional matters with an emphasis on business reorganizations, Canadian/US cross-border cases and the acquisition of troubled businesses. Between 1988 and 1993 Ms. Heston served as the first Region 18 United States Trustee, overseeing bankruptcy cases and fiduciaries in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska and Montana. She also is a former law clerk to a bankruptcy judge and a district judge as well as a former estate administrator of the federal bankruptcy court where she now sits as Bankruptcy Judge.

Judge Heston taught bankruptcy courses as an adjunct professor for over twenty years at both Seattle University School of Law and University of Washington Law School. She is a 2001 Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy and an active participant in both professional organizations and community service organizations currently serving or having served in leadership/board positions for the American Bankruptcy Institute, INSOL International, the Washington State Bar Association, the Turnaround Management Association, NCBJ (current International Committee Chair) and CENTS (the local pro bono/financial education organization). LAUREL MYERSON ISICOFF took the oath of office on February 13, 2006. ROBYN MOBERLY was sworn in as the first female Judge of the United States Bankruptcy Court in the state of Indiana. She currently serves as the Chief Judge of the bankruptcy court in the Southern District of Indiana. Judge Moberly served on the Indiana state court bench in Indianapolis from January 1997 until her appointment to the bankruptcy court in 2012. In state court, she presided over major felony court for four years and civil court for twelve years. Prior to her judicial service, she was a general practitioner for 17 years, including representing both debtors and creditors in bankruptcy matters. She has been very active in the legal community, serving as President of the IU McKinney School of Law Alumni Association, President of the Indiana Judges Association, President and Board member of the Indianapolis Bar Association, Board member of the Indiana Judicial Conference, and Associate Presiding Judge of the Marion Superior Court.

For the past twenty years, Judge Papalia was a partner with the law firm of Saiber LLC and the head of its Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights Department. Prior to joining Saiber LLC, he was an associate and then a partner with Clapp & Eisenberg, P.C.

For virtually his entire career, Judge Papalia focused his practice on representing various parties in-interest in bankruptcy and foreclosure-related litigation and proceedings before federal, state, and bankruptcy courts. He served for many years as a Court-appointed Mediator for the Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey and was Vice-Chair of the District V-A Ethics Committee.

Judge Papalia has authored or co-authored numerous articles on bankruptcy and creditors’ rights issues and has often spoken on those topics. While in private practice, Judge Papalia was regularly recognized by his peers in various publications listing top rated lawyers by areas of practice and geographic location.

She also graduated with distinction from the Ohio Northern University Claude W. THOMAS J. SALERNO is a partner at Stinson LLP in Phoenix, Arizona, and an experienced commercial bankruptcy lawyer with national and international experience in complex commercial cases. BRENDAN LINEHAN SHANNON is a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the District of Delaware. Judge Shannon received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University, and his law degree from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge Shannon was a partner with Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor, LLP in Wilmington, Delaware. At Young Conaway, Judge Shannon primarily represented corporate debtors and official committees in Chapter 11 cases.

Since his appointment in 2006, Judge Shannon has managed a full Chapter 11 docket, and also handles all Chapter 13 consumer bankruptcy cases filed in the State of Delaware. He served as Chief Judge of the Bankruptcy Court from 2014 through 2018.

Judge Shannon is an adjunct professor in the Bankruptcy L.L.M. Program at St. John’s University School of Law in New York, and at Widener School of Law in Delaware. He serves on the Board of Editors of Collier on Bankruptcy (16th ed.) and is a contributing author for Collier Forms and for several chapters covering the Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure. Judge Shannon also serves on the Advisory Board for the American Bankruptcy Institute Law Review.

In 2011, Judge Shannon was appointed to serve as a member of the National Bankruptcy Conference. The Conference was created in the 1930's at the request of Congress and serves as a resource to Congress on bankruptcy legislation. Judge Thuma grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago in 1980 and his law degree from Duke University in 1984. Between college and law school he worked briefly as a cowboy on a ranch near Mayer, Arizona. Judge Thuma practiced law in a large Indianapolis firm for five years before moving to New Mexico. FRANCES MARIE TYDINGCO-GATEWOOD currently serves as Guam's Chief District and Chief Bankruptcy Judge. Bush and confirmed by the United States Senate as the nation’s first federal woman judge of CHamoru and Pohnpeian descent. Before being appointed as Chief Judge, Frances Tydingco-Gatewood served as an Associate Justice with the Guam Supreme Court from 2002-2006. She served as a Trial Judge in Guam’s Superior Court from 1994-2002. She was appointed Chief Prosecutor at the Guam Office of the Attorney General from 1990-1994. She has also served as an Assistant Prosecutor, trial team leader for the Sex Crimes Unit in the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office in Kansas City, Missouri from 1988-1990. She became Guam’s first woman prosecutor of Chamoru and Pohnpeian descent at the Guam Office of the Attorney General from 1984-1988. After graduating law school, Frances Tydingco-Gatewood began her law career as the Law Clerk for the Honorable Forest W. Hanna, Presiding Judge of the Jackson County Circuit Court in Kansas City, Missouri from 1983-1984. Chief Judge Tydingco-Gatewood is the acting President of the Pacific Judicial Council, an organization dedicated to the mission of educating judicial officers and stakeholders in American Samoa, Republic of Palau, Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands, Guam, the Federated States of Micronesia National Courts and the islands of Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei, and Yap. HON. MADELEINE CARMEL WANSLEE was appointed a Judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Arizona, effective March 17, 2014. She was an associate and partner at Gust Rosenfeld, PLC in Phoenix, AZ where she was on the firm's Executive Committee and co-chaired its Bankruptcy Practice Group. Judge Wanslee specialized in bankruptcy, debtor/creditor relations and business litigation, and argued a bankruptcy appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, United Student Aid Funds, Inc. v. Espinosa. Judge Wanslee sits on the Ninth Circuit Conference Executive Committee and is a former Chair of its Bankruptcy Judges Education Committee and its Lawyer Representatives Coordinating Committee. She was also Chair of the State Bar of Arizona’s Bankruptcy Section and of the Arizona Lawyer Representatives to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. She helped to charter and is past President of the Arizona Bankruptcy American Inn of Court, and previously served on the American Board of Certification’s Standards Committee and on the Arizona State Bar's Bankruptcy Advisory Committee, which certify bankruptcy specialists. Judge Wanslee attended the University of Arizona (B.F.A. and B.A.) and Gonzaga University School of Law (J.D.), where she was Executive Editor of the Gonzaga Law Review. After law school, she clerked for the Hon. Robert C. Jones, Ninth Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel. Judge Wanslee and her husband reside in Phoenix, AZ.

HON. DAVID WARREN

DAVID M. WARREN was appointed as United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of North Carolina on October 4, 2013 and took the oath of office on February 7, 2014. His chambers are in the Century Station Courthouse and Post Office in Raleigh. He serves as an adjunct professor at the Norman A. Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University and as a guest lecturer at the Wake Forest University School of Law.

Judge Warren was a partner at Poyner Spruill LLP in Raleigh and Rocky Mount, NC for over 27 years and concentrated his practice in the areas of bankruptcy and commercial law. Judge Warren received his Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from Wake Forest University and his Juris Doctorate degree from the Wake Forest University School of Law. After law school he had a two-year clerkship with the late Honorable Thomas M. Moore, who with the Honorable A. Thomas Small, drafted legislation that became Chapter 12.

Judge Warren served on the Panel of Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustees for the Eastern District of North Carolina for 24 years and is a past Chair of the Bankruptcy Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association. He served on the Local Rules Committee for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina for over 10 years and served as Chair for over 7 years.

Judge Warren is a certified specialist in business and consumer bankruptcy law by the Board of Legal Specialization and the American Board of Certification. He is a member and director of the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges and the American Bankruptcy Institute.

HON. MICHAEL G. WILLIAMSON

JUDGE MICHAEL G. WILLIAMSON was appointed on March 1, 2000 as a bankruptcy judge for the Tampa Division of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida — one of the largest districts in the United States with courthouses in Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa, and Ft. Myers. From 2015-2019 he served as Chief Judge of the Middle District.

Judge Williamson graduated from Duke University in 1973 and from Georgetown University Law Center in 1976. He began his bankruptcy practice in 1976 serving as a Chapter 7 panel trustee from 1977 to 1979, and thereafter principally representing parties in Chapter 11 corporate reorganizations. Before becoming a bankruptcy judge in 2000, he was managing partner of one of Florida’s oldest law firms, Maguire, Voorhis & Wells, P.A., until the firm’s merger with Holland & Knight in 1998.

In 1993, Judge Williamson was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy. He is also a member of the American Law Institute, an institution responsible for drafting the Restatements of the Law and various model codes used in the U.S.

In addition to serving as a bankruptcy judge, Judge Williamson currently serves as Co-Author of West’s Bankruptcy Law Manual and is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Florida’s oldest law school, Stetson University College of Law, where he teaches bankruptcy law. He has also worked extensively in the area of commercial law development conducting field assessments, recommendations for improvement of the World Bank Doing Business Indicators, and educational programs in Afghanistan, Ukraine, Bahrain, Georgia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Azerbaijan, Macedonia, Russia, Rwanda, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.

HON. TRACEY WISE

TRACEY N. WISE was appointed United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of Kentucky on March 31, 2010. She served as Chief Judge from October 1, 2011 until September 30, 2019.

Judge Wise was appointed to the Sixth Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel in 2016, and was elevated to Chief Judge on October 1, 2019.

Judge Wise is a 1980 graduate of Indiana University (B.A., Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude) and a 1983 graduate of the Indiana University School of Law (J.D., Order of the Coif) where she served as a Note Editor for the Indiana Law Journal (1982-1983).

Judge Wise is a Fellow in the American College of Bankruptcy (12th Class - 2001), a member of the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges and has served as the bankruptcy representative on various U.S. District Court (EDKY) and Sixth Circuit Committees.

Prior to her appointment, Judge Wise practiced in the areas of bankruptcy and debt restructuring, served on numerous court-appointed committees, chaired the Bankruptcy Sections of the Fayette County and Kentucky Bar Associations, served as a Trustee of the Client’s Security Fund, and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Lexington Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Breast Cancer Foundation.
