Enrichment Program 2021
We are thrilled to announce the 2 021 Summer Season of Learning! This enrichment program offers learning opportunities that extend beyond the scope of our grade-level curricula. Topics include science, math, technology, literacy, and more. There is something for everyone!
We are planning for in person programming!
Classes will be taught by Grafton Public Schools professionals. We welcome students entering Kindergarten through grade 12 to participate.
The program is designed to be self-sustaining: neither the town nor the school budget will fund the program. Rather, parents will pay a user fee.

New this summer! S upervised lunch for an additional $10 per week. Students are responsible for bringing their own lunches. There will be NO food service available.

Registration: R egistration will be ongoing. First come, first serve. Please register as soon as possible so that we can prepare. R egistration will close May 21, 2021.
NEW! Each week registration updates will be posted on the Grafton Public Schools website. A minimum of 10 students must be registered in order for a class to run. Be sure to check out the registration information on the Grafton Public Schools webpage at www.graftonps.org. Look for Parent Links, then Enrichment.

Fee Schedule:
AM or PM session: $75 per child per program.
Financial aid is available to qualifying Grafton families: ● Financial aid will be based on the Free and Reduced Lunch Form. ● Those qualifying for f ree l unch during the school year are asked to pay half of the program fee(s), i.e. $37.50 per program. ● Those qualifying for r educed lunch during the school year are asked to pay 75% of the program fee(s), i.e. $56.25 per program.
Some classes have an additional materials fee. These fees are noted in the course description and are the responsibility of the participant.
Student Eligibility:
The session offerings are targeted to specific grade levels. Please note that each course lists the grade that students must be e ntering in the fall of 2021 in order to participate. If your child is too young or too old for a class, he/she will be removed from the class list.
Course Selection:
● Please select your classes carefully. ● Preference will be given to Grafton families. ● Classes will be filled as registrations are received. Please be aware that this is a rolling admissions process. This will be first come, first served. ● We will regularly post filled classes on the GPS website. ● Once a class is filled, registrants will be notified with a confirmation email including all of the details of the program via email.
Registration, Payments and Forms:
To complete your registration you must: ● Complete the paper registration form in this guide. ● Include full payment in the form of a check or money order payable to Grafton Public Schools. Checks and money orders will be the only form of payments.
You may submit documentation and your payment in any of the following ways: ● To any of the Grafton Public Schools ● In your child’s backpack to be sent to the school’s main office ● In the mail to Summer of Learning, Millbury Street Elementary School, 105 Millbury Street, Grafton, MA 01519.
Cancellations/Refunds:
Since the enrichment program is financially self-sufficient, courses that do not meet a minimum enrollment will not be offered. In the event that a class does not run due to low enrollment, you will receive a full refund. We reserve the right to cancel, change, or consolidate classes when necessary.
Once full payment has been made, no refunds will be granted unless a class is cancelled due to low enrollment.
Refunds will also be given for medical reasons with the submission of a doctor’s note. Partial / prorated refunds will be issued after a program has started based on medical reasons with a doctor’s note.
Transportation:
Transportation to and from the program is the responsibility of the student’s family.
Student Conduct:
The enrichment program is an extracurricular activity. Students who do not meet expectations for appropriate behavior may be asked to leave the program without a refund. Any staff member may ask that your child stay home if there are behavioral concerns such as being disruptive, disrespectful and/or unsafe.
Medication Drop-off:
If your child has an EpiPen for allergies and/or will require mediation during the summer program, you must drop off this medication in person to the summer nurse on the first day of the enrichment program. Medication must be delivered in a pharmacy or manufacturer-labeled container. No more than a 30 day supply of medicine may be delivered to the summer program. Please do not send your child to the program with medication. All medication must be dropped off by an authorized adult directly to the summer nurse on the f irst day of each of the four weeks.

We will make our own sensory bottles, play and NGES explore with magnets and discover how our senses help us learn. We'll also make predictions and conduct experiments about wind, water, motion and light. Come explore and experiment with us!
K & 1 1 & 2 AM Ocean Fun! Erin Powers, K Let's learn about the beach and ocean this summer through art, math, and RLA teacher, science. We'll even take virtual field trips to an aquarium to see ocean SGES animals up close. Additional supplies: $5 K & 1 1 & 2 PM Dinosaurs STOMP! Erin Powers, K Let's spend time learning about Dinosaurs! With art, science/STEAM RLA teacher, experiments, and math we'll keep your skills sharp while having fun! SGES Additional supplies: $5
1-4 1 & 2 AM The Breakfast Club! Heather DeMers, Is your favorite meal breakfast? Come join us while we create our own Grade 1 teacher, breakfast club! Throughout the week, children will learn how to make SGES various breakfast items from smoothies to pancakes and everything in between. Children will learn how to make savory and sweet breakfast foods. K & 1 1 AM Believe2soar Youth Empowerment Run Program & Vision Board Brandy Morreale, Design Paraprofessional We transform traditional running games into Fun and challenging NGES 2 - 4 2 AM games/drills, teaching kids real life lessons while building upon character and self esteem. We help our kids develop a growth mindset by focusing 5 & 6 3 AM on 8 core principles: Power Words-Positive Thoughts-Aggressive Goals- Personal Resilience-Teamwork-Individual Integrity-Community-Vision-New 7 & 8 4 AM Beginnings. We will also be doing an age appropriate vision board craft to turn those dreams into goals. Nothing is impossible!!
2 - 4 1 & 3 AM Sparking Young Minds Through Creative Reading and Writing Christine Peters Do you have a passion for reading & writing? If so, this is the class for you! and Alysha As a class, we will focus on paragraph organization & topic development. Steelman, 2 - 4 2 & 4 PM Students will read a variety of genres, complete reading responses, Paraprofessionals, character sketches & selection summaries. Journal writing will be NG & SG incorporated each day. In addition, students will engage in brain teasers, designed to challenge their critical thinking & analytical skills. Technology will be incorporated to expand on typing skills We will challenge our thinking, become authors & illustrators and have fun creating and learning!
2 - 4 1 & 3 PM Kidz Bop, Tops, and Socks Christine Peters It's time to bop and move, tie-dye & groove, to your favorite songs! Come and Alysha & sing along! Summer is for fun & what better way to celebrate than with Steelman, 2 - 4 2 & 4 AM tie dye creations! T-shirts & socks, with Kidz Bop music, everyone rocks! Paraprofessionals, Movement & the magic of the dye, paired with a story or two! Just the NG & SG recipe for you! 4 -6 1 - 4 AM Escape Room Games Lindsay Baker, Escape Games, also known as Escape Rooms, are games in which a SPED teacher, team of players cooperatively discover clues, solve puzzles, and MSES accomplish tasks in one or more rooms in order to progress and accomplish a specific goal in a limited amount of time.
K - 2 2 & 4 AM Art Exploration and Experimentation Donna Reinhardt, Join us as we explore common, and uncommon ways, to create art. We Paraprofessional, will experiment with different types of paint (and make some of our own!), NGES sculpting mediums and other art forms. We will use our imaginations & creativity to make our projects. We will incorporate some science Additional experiments into our art too! Come and have some fun with us! supplies: $10
1-4 2 & 3 PM Cupcakes, Cookies, Confections! Heather DeMers, Do you have a sweet tooth? Do you enjoy being creative in the kitchen? Grade 1 teacher, Then come join us while we bake up a storm! Throughout the week, SGES children will learn how to bake items from cookies to cupcakes and everything in between. Children will learn how to make frostings and have a chance to decorate their creations. Children will also learn baking Additional measurements, how to read and write a recipe and tips for how to be safe supplies: $10 in the kitchen. *Please note food WILL be eaten during this session.* 6- 9 2 & 3 AM Making Video Games Isabella Schiavone or An introduction to creating games in GameMaker Studio, including GMS, Computers PM programming, art, and design. & Rachel Burton, *Students with prior computer experience preferred. Summer Fun: Love science, we're going to do a bunch of fun summer Erin Powers, K K & 1 3 & 4 AM science experiments. Make moon sand, slime, make baggies explode, RLA teacher, make a solar oven to cook your own s'more, launch bottle rockets, and do SGES a water balloon toss. We'll also do some arts and crafts from sun catchers to painting with squirt guns! Additional supplies: $5 Bugs, Bugs, Bugs:Learn about different bugs, take virtual field trips, taste Erin Powers, K K & 1 3 & 4 PM test honey, & go on a bug scavenger hunt! Make bug arts & crafts, RLA teacher, science experiments, & so much more! We'll move like a bug, go through SGES a spider web obstacle course, move together like a millipede, move a paper butterfly using static electricity, and make worms dance in a cup! 7 & 8 3 & 4 PM Math Review 7th and 8th grade Pradip Dev, GMS Two weeks of review of all material covered during the academic year of Teacher 2 week 20-21. Should be particularly useful for those that had been present not in a consistent manner, those that would like to keep the practice on during progra the summer break and those that would like to be better prepared for the m upcoming school year. Total $150 for 2 weeks of programming. Must commit to both weeks.
