We have some great upperclass leadership in Dejan, Jamil, Kaes and Garrett. Those guys know what it takes, and those guys are not going to let us do anything but compete at our highest.” With that barrage of talent prepped for competition, USC is steeled for whatever the 2007 season throws its way. That includes the tough Pac-10 teams — including defending champ UCLA — and extends to a grueling nonconference schedule. The Trojans will pay a visit to top- ranked NCAA Tournament host Georgia, but also have the good fortune to be hosting Agba, Cvetkovic, Snyder and Whit Livingston a great deal of matches this year. comprise the senior corps, with Van’t Hof and “We look to really compete with UCLA and Loucks standing out from the junior ranks. really challenge for that Pac-10- title,” Smith Last season, USC’s doubles teams were said of the dual match road ahead. “We have consistently successful, although staying power at a packed schedule, though we’re very fortunate singles proved hit-or-miss as the Trojans wound up to have a very good home schedule. with nine 4-3 losses — seven in Pac-10 play and “It’s an enjoyable team,” Smith added. two to top-10 teams — to finish 2006 short of the “They have overcome some obstacles and NCAA Championships with an 8-14 overall record everything is clear and defined as to what we Senior dejan cvetkovic (1-6 Pac-10). need to do.” • If USC’s 2007 upperclassmen and the three active Trojan newcomers have anything Senior JAMIL AL-agba to say about it, that won’t happen again. “I think we have a lot to prove this year. We have worked tirelessly to get the talent that we know we have out of the guys,” Smith said. “All we lacked last year was finishing power. We proved we could play with anybody, but we couldn’t finish. I think with this addition of new people and the reconditioning of everyone, I think we’re ready to go.” USC has six new players on its roster, three of whom will be active and three who will redshirt their first season at Troy. Tagged for duty in the Trojan lineup are freshmen Robert Farah, Jason McNaughton and Gary Sacks — all proven winners coming into their USC careers. “We added three very competitive, very good players,” Smith said.”And we really return the core of our team: five out of our top six singles players and five of our top six doubles teams. David X. Marks Tennis Stadium

The David X. Marks Tennis Stadium on the USC campus is one of the finest collegiate tennis facilities in the country. During the winter, a sixth court was added to the main stadium, allowing for dual-match competition to be played out entirely in front of fans within the 1,000-seat venue. A new and much-anticipated addition was made in May 2005 with the installa- tion of a $300,000 LED Daktronic interactive scoreboard. Fans can now follow each match point-for-point from their stadium seat and online at www.usctrojans.com. The stadium also underwent renovations during the summer of 2002. Seven hundred chair-back seats were added to replace the bleachers on the baselines and the courts were all repainted and lined. Two of the courts are named after famous USC alumni and Wimbledon singles champions, and . The center court is named for USC’s 13 Grand Slam doubles champions — Byron Black, , , , Rick Leach, , , Olmedo, , , Raul Ramirez, and Smith. Underneath the stadium is the beautiful Leonard Andrews Varsity Lounge and Team Room, along with two locker rooms. The locker rooms also have been renovated through a generous gift made by John and Michelle Katnik of Diversified Development. Each lockerroom features the program’s recent conference champi- onship trophies, Hall of Fame walls with past NCAA singles and doubles champions, as well as the men’s and women’s national championship trophies. At the entrance to the stadium is a list of all 16 of the USC men’s national champion years and seven women’s tennis national championships, including a newly-added 2002 for last year’s men’s tennis title squad. The stadium was dedicated in 1973 when former Trojan stars Alex Olmedo, Stan Smith, Dennis Ralston and Bob Lutz held a tennis exhibition. The 1974 men’s NCAA Tournament was held at Marks Stadium (USC finished second).

7th Man Club In 2005, the 7th Man Club was established as a student-run organization created to promote the success of USC tennis and instill a sense of pride in one of USC’s oldest and most prolific athletic programs. The high energy of the 7th Man Club members alongside the intimate setting of Marks Tennis Stadium creates an unrivaled homefield advantage. For a $5 fee, members can combine the tennis action with food, drinks, shirts, and prizes at all of the highlighted 7th Man matches.

USC Leads With 15 Players and Coaches In the ITA Men's Tennis Hall of Fame

USC’s most recent representative in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Men’s Collegiate Hall of Fame is Tom Edlefsen, who was inducted in 2006 as USC’s 15th Hall of Famer. The last group of USC inductees came with a trio of former Trojans who joined the six total Hall of Famers that year. The Class of 2003 was headlined by USC’s Bill Bond, Dick Leach and Robert Van’t Hof, as well as George M. Church of Princeton, Bob McKinley of Trinity (Texas) and longtime NCAA Referee Jim Russell. Church was inducted posthumously. No more than three individuals from one school have ever been inducted in the same year, with USC doing so in 2003 and Yale sending a trio into the Hall Fame in 1993. Players are eligible for election to the ITA Hall of Fame 15 years after their last collegiate match and coaches are eligible following retirement. The main criteria for election are college accomplishments as well as honors earned after college. College tennis legend Dan Magill serves as curator for the ITA Hall of Fame, which is housed at the University of Georgia. The ITA Men’s Tennis Hall of Fame, which includes over 1,800 rare photos, was inaugurated in 1983 and has inducted more than 160 players, coaches and contributors. Members include the late (UCLA), (UCLA), John McEnroe (Stanford) and Stan Smith (USC). The ITA Women’s Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame is located Hall of Fame Inductees Robert Van't Hof (far left), Bill Bond (middle) and Dick at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. Leach (far right) with USC head coach Peter Smith (second from left) in 2003.
