The proposal came from a Shan scholar for whom I have great respect, and who was as well fitted as any Shan I know to do the work. He planned to assemble copies of all the Shan State Chronicles extant; to glean all references to the Shan States in Burmese Chronicles; and finally to collect source materiu.ls in English. · Such, in brief, was the plan. I had to point out that it omitted what, for the older periods at least, were the most important sources of all: the original Old 'l'h ai inscriptions of the north, the number of which, if those from East Bm·ma, North Siam and Laos, are included, may well exceed a hundred; 1 and the elated contem porary reco1·cls in Chinese, from the 13th century onwards. I do not know if these sources have been adequately tapped in Siam. · They certainly have not in Burma. And since the earlier period, say 1.250 to 1450 A.D., is the time of the m~'tSS movements of the Dai2 southward from Western Yunnan, radiating all over Fmther India and beyond, the subject is one, I think, that concerns Siam no less than Burma. I am a' poor scholar of 'l'hai; so I shall confine myself here to Chinese and Burmese sources. The Chinese ones are mainly the dynastic histories of the Mongols in China (the Yuan-shih ), and the his-' tory of the earlier half of the Ming dynasty (the Ming-shih ). -

Density Equation of Cassava-Stalk Briquettes Under Moderate Die-Pressure
American Journal of Applied Sciences 7 (5): 698-701, 2010 ISSN 1546-9239 © 2010Science Publications Density Equation of Cassava-Stalk Briquettes Under Moderate Die-Pressure Patomsok Wilaipon Department Mechanical Engineering, Faculty Engineering, Naresuan University, Phitsanulok, Thailand 65000 Abstract: Problem statement: Agricultural residues seem to be the most promising energy resources for developing countries. However, the majority of them have low energy density. One of the favorable technologies for enhancing that property is briquetting. For the case of Phitsanulok, a province in Northern Thailand, cassava is one of the most important crops. Therefore, a large amount of cassava stalk is left in the field after harvest. This study was aimed to investigate the quantity of cassava stalk in this province and to study cassava stalk briquette production. Approach: The potential energy from cassava stalk was calculated based on the productivity, residue-to-product ratio, residue returned to soil ratio and its heating value. Besides, the effects of moderate-range compression pressure, 70-110 bar, and the binder ratio, 10-20%, on briquette density were investigated. An empirical model was also developed and validated. Results: Base on the estimation, the quantity of usable cassava stalk in this area was approximately 18 kton year−1. The heating value of cassava stalk was found to be 16.39 MJ kg−1. Therefore, the total energy over 289 TJ year−1 can be obtained from this agricultural waste. According to the experiment, briquette density was in the range of 0.40-0.77 g cm−3. The coefficient of multiple determination for prediction of the proposed model was about 94.7%. -

Popularly known as “The Rose of the North” and with an en- chanting location on the banks of the Ping River, the city and its surroundings are blessed with stunning natural beauty and a uniquely indigenous cultural identity. Founded in 12 by King Mengrai as the capital of the Lanna Kingdom, Chiang Mai has had a long and mostly independent history, which has to a large extent preserved a most distinctive culture. This is witnessed both in the daily lives of the people, who maintain their own dialect, customs and cuisine, and in a host of ancient temples, fascinating for their northern Thai architectural Styles and rich decorative details. Chiang Mai also continues its renowned tradition as a handicraft centre, producing items in silk, wood, silver, ceramics and more, which make the city the country’s top shopping destination for arts and crafts. Beyond the city, Chiang Mai province spreads over an area of 20,000 sq. km. offering some of the most picturesque scenery in the whole Kingdom. The fertile Ping River Valley, a patchwork of paddy fields, is surrounded by rolling hills and the province as a whole is one of forested mountains (including Thailand’s highest peak, Doi Inthanon), jungles and rivers. Here is the ideal terrain for adventure travel by trekking on elephant back, river rafting or four-wheel drive safaris in a natural wonderland. -

Pranom Chantaranothai ([email protected]) Received: 16 October 2020; Accepted: 21 January 2021 ABSTRACT.– Dendrolobium includes seven species and eight taxa in Thailand, viz. D. baccatum, D. lanceolatum (var. lanceolatum and var. microcarpum), D. olivaceum, D. rugosum, D. thorelii, D. triangulare and D. umbellatum. Four names are lectotypified, including Lespedeza lanceolata, Desmodium wallichii, Desmodium cephalotoides and Desmodium umbellatum var. costatum. Two names are reduced to synonymy, i.e., Lespedeza cambodiana under Dendrolobium lanceolatum and Dendrolobium rugosum var. moniliferum under Dendrolobium rugosum. KEY WORDS: Desmodium, Desmodieae, Fabaceae, Papilionoideae, taxonomy INTRODUCTION Dendrolobium and it is a contribution to the progress of the Flora of Thailand project. Dendrolobium was described by Bentham (1852). The species belonging to MATERIALS AND METHODS this genus have often been treated under Desmodium Desv. in various taxonomic categories, including Desmodium sect. The taxonomic study of genus Eudesmodium (De Candolle, 1825), Dendrolobium in Thailand is based on Desmodium subgen. Dendrolobium (Wight specimens from various herbaria viz. AAU, & Arnott, 1834), and Desmodium sect. ABD, BCU, BK, BKF, BM, BO, C, CMU, Dendrolobium (Bentham, 1864). Nowadays, CMUB, E, FOT, G, G-DC, HN, HNL, Dendrolobium is accepted again in several HNU, K, KEP, KKU, K-W, KYO, L, taxonomic works (e.g., Ohashi, 1973, 1998 NOUL, P, PSU, QBG, SING and TI. -

[email protected] 3 Department of Hydraulic Engineering, Tsinghua University, Beijing, 100084, China 4 School of Water Resources and Environment, China University of Geosciences (Beijing), Beijing 100083, China 5 Remote Sensing Center, Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, Beijing, 100044, China Abstract This paper presents simulations of daily hydrological process of the Mun River, the largest tributary of the Mekong, with a geomorphology-based hydrological model (GBHM) driven by two forcing sets: traditional station data and grid data derived from remote sensing and GLDAS products. Driven by the station data, the Mun-GBHM model is successfully calibrated against the discharge observed in 1991, but the model accuracy decreases with the increase of simulation time during the validation period of 1992–1999. Driven by the TRMM rainfall and other meteorological data from GLDAS, using the same parameters as above, the model performs reliably at both the monthly and daily scale. Moreover, when the model is calibrated with one year of gridded data, its performance can be further improved. Our results demonstrate that TRMM and GLDAS are able to drive the GBHM so providing reliable hydrologic predictions in such data-poor or ungauged basins. -
