BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL NOTE

Claude L. Shaver was a member of the faculty in the Department of Speech at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE A folder level listing can be found in the CONTAINER LIST.

Box 1: Material related to the Southwest Theatre 21st Annual Conference includes correspondence inviting speakers and suggesting programs and workshops, as well as registration forms, LSU campus maps, and financial papers related to the conferences (1968). There are also programs for plays produced by the LSU Speech Department.

Box 2: In addition to correspondence, there are student summer theater programs for years 1969 to 1973 and files for summer festivals (1958, 1964-1972). Also included are drafts of the plays These Are My People, This Is My Land, and The Only-Begotten Son. Other files include records for the Louisiana Council for Music and Performing Arts contest on plays written by students (1971).

Box 3: Found in files is correspondence with individuals at the University of Alaska as well as several other universities, linguistics, Southern Speech Association, Speech Association of America, and YMCA lectures.

Box 4: Files contain information and correspondence on the American National Theater and Academy, issues of Louisiana Speaks, and a speech conference in honor of C. M. Wise. There are also several booklets, programs, and playbills for theater productions.

Box 5: Files include playbills, correspondence, Speech Association of America convention printed material, correspondence, and addresses presented at conferences. Other items relate to summer festivals and studies in honor of C. M. Wise.

Box 6: Files include correspondence, speeches, a draft of a thesis on stage design, materials on Phi Beta Fraternity, and a play by Gus Weill. There are also files that pertain to François Delsarte.

Box 7: This box contains Phi Beta Fraternity membership records (1939-1943), Claude L. Shaver’s retirement bulletin (1973 May 5-6), and two plays by Gus Weill.
