Records & Statistics PBR WORLD CHAMPION PBR WORLD CHAMPIONS Each year, the PBR World Champion is determined by the most PBR world points earned throughout the season. In 2019, 22-year-old Jess Lockwood made history, becoming the youngest two-time PBR World Champion in league history. Starting the season with back-to-back Unleash The Beast wins in New York City and Chicago, Lockwood quickly surged to the world No. 1 ranking. His season, however, was nearly derailed in February after breaking his collarbone during the 2019 PBR Global Cup USA. Sidelined for three months, Lockwood slipped to No. 4 in the world. However, a strong summer campaign, which included five Touring Pro Division event wins, coupled with a victory at both the 15/15 Bucking Battle and main event in Tulsa, the first event of the second-half, propelled him back to the No. 1 ranking. Winning the Houston event the subsequent weekend, Lockwood, who also won two additional 15/15 Bucking Battles, entered the World Finals the No. 2-ranked rider in the world. Locked in a ride-for-ride slug fest with fellow title contenders Jose Vitor Leme and Chase Outlaw, Lockwood’s 5-for-6 showing at the World Finals not only earned him the victory at the sport’s most prestigious event, but also allowed him to claim the 2019 PBR World Championship. Earning $1,873,731.80, Lockwood, who is now sixth in the PBR for all-time earnings, broke Justin McBride’s single-season earnings record from 2007 when he collected $1,835,321. Additionally, Lockwood is now one of only five athletes to win the World Championship and World Finals event title in the same season, joining: Mike Lee (2004), Renato Nunes (2010), J.B. Last season, Jess Lockwood went 5-for-6, including four consecutive, impressive 90-point efforts, to win the 2019 PBR World Finals event title. His first-ever victory at the most prestigious event in bull riding allowed him to erase a 749.16-point lead held by No. 1 Jose Vitor Leme to surge to the top spot in the world standings and be crowned the 2019 PBR World Champion. It offers established and up-and-coming bull riders an opportunity to not only earn money, but also to gain valuable points needed to qualify for the PBR’s top series, and ultimately the PBR World Finals. In 2019, despite only competing at six events on the tour, Jose Vitor Leme rode to the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour Championship. Leme entered the Velocity Tour Finals as the series’ No. 1-ranked rider winning three of the six events he entered. In Las Vegas, Leme went 2-for-3 to win the 2019 Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour Finals and remain atop the tour standings. From 2003- 2012, the award was presented to the bull rider who earned the most money during his first season competing on the premier series. Starting in 2013 the Rookie of the Year award was given to the rider who earned the most points. In 2019, Dalton Kasel delivered one of the most noteworthy PBR debut seasons, to climb from unranked on June 1 to No. 8 in the world following the season’s last day of action on Nov. 10. Kasel notched two impressive Touring Pro Division wins in Williston, North Dakota, and Big Sky, Montana and debuted on the Unleash The Beast in Tulsa, Oklahoma in early August, finishing seventh. It didn’t take him long to find his groove, finishing second at his first- ever Major in Nashville two weeks later. After recording two additional Top-5 efforts on the elite tour, he stood atop the Can-Am cage for the first time in his young career, winning the final regular-season event in Nampa, Idaho.

Since I was a college graduate, single, broke, and living with my dad, I felt like a failure. It was one of the most depressing periods in my life but eventually I found the rodeo arena. I started riding bulls and for the first time in a long while, I felt like I was worthy. Rodeo is not like other sports. In most sports, the athlete shares the stage with many other people at the same time. In basketball, football, baseball, and track and field, there is never a time when a participant can be confident that every single spectator is watching nobody else but him. In rodeo, every competitor gets his or her moment in the sun.

This is bull riding’s equivalent of DiMaggio’s 56-game hitting streak, bringing excitement and anticipation each time this bovine bruiser gets into a chute. Amazingly, Bushwacker didn’t let arthroscopic surgery on his rear fetlocks (ankles) in January 2012 get in the way of his career, as he has returned to the sport better than ever.

Tulsa is hosting the championship finals of the Wrangler ProRodeo Winter Tour -- known as the Pace Picante ProRodeo Chute-out -- as well as a Dodge Xtreme Bulls 2006 Ride Hard Tour stop and a western trade fair during the three-day festival that starts on Friday and ends Sunday. The proclamation will be presented to Shoulders Friday during the opening ceremonies of the Dodge Xtreme Bulls Ride Hard Tour event at 8 p.m. tomorrow night at the Tulsa Convention Center Arena. “Jim Shoulders is a national treasure and has represented the best of Tulsa and Oklahoma his entire life,” said Taylor. “He personifies all of our best attributes -- hard work, love of family, steadfast faith and rock solid loyalty. I hope my fellow Tulsans will come out to the rodeo this weekend to celebrate Jim’s legacy and see the best professional rodeo action available anywhere outside the Wrangler NFR.” Shoulders’ record of 16 world championships in multiple events may never be surpassed. After the Canadian National Anthem was performed by stock contractor Wayne Vold, and entertainers Nicki Flundra, Madison MacDonald and Piper Yule wowed the 18,000 fans jammed into the Thomas and Mack Arena, it was time to rodeo. And while there was excitement throughout the night and great performaces from several of the Canadian competitors, on this night they saved the best for the last. Just moments after Utah bull rider Stetson Wright who leads the All-Around standings was 93.5 points, five time World Champion Bull Rider Sage Kimzey went a half point better with a spectacular 94 point ride on a Bull of the Year - Powder River Rodeo’s SweetPro’s Bruiser. There are those WNFR moments that people will talk about for years and that ride will be one of them as a great bull and one of the greatest bull riders of all-time both brought their A game and brought the Thomas and Mack crowd to their feet. Kimzey has ridden seven of eight and sits at a mind boggling $390,000 in season earnings with two rounds and the average still potentially to be factored in.
