SUMMIT THEATRE GROUP MATILDA THE MUSICAL CHARACTER LIST Children/Teen/Young Adult Roles We will consider all children, teens, and young adults who can pass for the student characters. There will be a variety of ages used for all students - the student ensemble includes an older group and a younger group. Matilda Wormwood: An imaginative girl who is clever and wise far beyond her years. She has a thirst for learning that cannot be quenched. Female, age 10-21. (Songs: Miracle, Naughty, Acrobat Story I, School Song, The Hammer, Naughty Reprise, Chokey Chant, Acrobat Story II, Bruce, When I Grow Up, Acrobat Story III, Acrobat Story IV, The Smell of Rebellion, Quiet, My House, Revolting Children, Finale) Michael Wormwood: Matilda's older brother. He is not very bright and favored by their parents. Male, age 10-21. Bruce: Matilda's classmate. He is subject to extreme punishment by Miss Trunchbull. Male, age 10 to 21. (Songs: See ensemble student songs below) Lavender: Matilda's classmate and friend. Female, age 10-21. (Songs: See ensemble student songs below) Ensemble Students: Amanda, Nigel, Eric, Alice, Hortensia, Tommy, and others. Any gender, ages 6-21. (Included in songs: Miracle, School Song, The Hammer, Chokey Chant, Bruce, When I Grow Up, The Smell of Rebellion, Revolting Children, Finale) Adult Roles Please note adults will be used in creative ways throughout the musical - the directors plan to use the adult ensemble as much as possible. Most of the adult roles will support vocally on and off stage, most likely for more songs that listed for the characters. Miss Agatha Trunchbull: The tyrannical headmistress at Matilda's school who despises children. Any gender, age 35-55, Vocal range G4-A2. (Songs: The Hammer, Bruce, The Smell of Rebellion, Finale) Miss Honey: Matilda's kindhearted teacher. She is tired of living in fear under Miss Trunchbull. Female, age 25-40, Vocal range D5-F3. (Songs: Pathetic, This Little Girl, When I Grow Up, The Smell of Rebellion, My House, Revolting Children, Finale) Mr. Wormwood: Matilda's uncaring father. A slimy, greedy used-car salesman. Male, age 35-45, Vocal Range D3-A4. (Songs: Miracle, Loud, All I Know, I’m So Clever) Mrs. Wormwood: Matilda's self-absorbed, negligent mother and an amateur ballroom dancer. Female, age 35-45, Vocal range F5-A3. (Songs: Miracle, Loud) Mrs. Phelps: A nice librarian. Female, Age: 25-55. The Escapologist: A character in a story Matilda tells to Mrs. Phelps who comes to life in their imagination. Male, Vocal range C3-E4.
