Sally Slater : Paladin before purchasing it in order to gage whether or not it would be worth my time, and all praised Paladin:

We kinda knew where the story was going but the ride wasn't half bad.Sam,our heroine, is determined, stubborn and willful. She disguises herself as a boy to join the prestigious service of the Paladin. She meets Tristan, in another life he was her betrothed. And Braendon half human half demon, who is struggling to atone for his past deeds. The story centers around their relationship with each other. Throughout the story we learn the very same organization whom they've pledged their duty and service to to protect humans sought the destruction of humans. It wasn't much of a surprise. The story was simple, an easy read. The characters held your attention. But of course the ending was more like a cliffhanger of sorts. All in all a good book, I would read book 2.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. SAM: I am!By Kindle CustomerI thought this was a fantastic book, especially for a debut. I could not stop reading it once I officially started. Ms. Slater has a wonderfully brilliant and beautiful mind, which shows throughout the entirety of Paladin.Paladin has been compared to A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin, which is not an unfair comparison in terms of depth of plot and overall world development. For it is quite clear that Paladin will be a series of books because they're so many nuggets of Ms. Slater's story that can be turned into a number of books (as well as short stories) in and of themselves. However, Paladin should rightfully be compared to The Evermen Saga by James Maxwell and The Demon Cycle by Peter V. Brett. I won't say why, but if you enjoyed either of those two series or A Song of Ice and Fire you will definitely enjoy Paladin. Needless to say even if you haven't read any of those other series you'll still enjoy Paladin, because of its simplicity, complexity, and authenticity.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Intro to a world~By TachinatorI'm not entirely certain what I just read, it was something somewhat predictable and yet refreshing. Let me clarify. I read this book not because of the endless adverts posted or goodreads. No, I read it because of a great review that Rachel posted (and author in her own right! ) and the way she painted this book got my interest piqued. I bought it, but it didn't keep me engrossed in it as I was hoping it would since I was in a huge reading stump and there was nothing that could get me to keep my interest (books I mean). Once I got to the tedious beginning, the rest of the book flowed wonderfully. It's really a shame though that I only read it in bits and pieces, because sure enough, it kept my interest long enough to get another book and then once that book wore off, I would return to this one and continue my reading. It's silly really, because after weeks of not reading this, and to suddenly return to it and still be able to remember the rest of the story means that the author did an amazing job to subconsciously implant those words as images in my head. I will admit, it wasn't exactly as I hoped it would be as a fantasy story. It lacked the lyrical prose that only 'medieval/fantasy/paranormal' books generally have. For example, the constant use of the word OK... sorry I mean OKAY, didn't sit well with me seeing as that word is too modern and this is a make believe world. Of course, I understand we, as readers, have our peeves, and this one was mine, and the author could do whatever she wanted with her book as she wrote the darn thing. Another thing I found that kept me from fully enjoying the book was the additional character development. I don't know why but it seemed rather abrupt, some of the things. Certainly wasn't expecting a detail by detail rendition of exactly everything that happened during the story, but I would like additional elaboration on certain parts, and the romance as well. I know that wasn't the main plot genre, but the romance just seemed a bit too obvious, not exactly instalove, but something like, 'if you are nice to me, and you pay attention to me, and you share your secrets with me, of course I'm going to fall in love with you, but I can't because...' I understand that this character had problems being loved as a youth and nobody's actually shown him real love, but what the heroine showed him wasn't love, it was affection and there's a bit of a difference. Regardless, this book was enjoyable, definitely left a huge room for a second book, maybe more, and I'm certainly looking forward to how it goes. Not as eager as I was when I first delved into this book, but I just want to see where the author went from when she began this book. Definitely recommend it for people who just want lite fantasy and romance elements. Give it a try, maybe as a hardcore romance and fantasy lover this was below my demanding expectations, but it's a well liked book and very well written to it have been the first one from this author.
