The Sound Tigers are eight points outside of a playoff spot with eight 19-12-1-2 Home 17-14-3-0 games remaining, trailing only the fourth-place Charlotte Checkers who are in Syracuse this evening. Bridgeport also has one game in hand on Charlotte with an elimination number of “eight.” Last time out, 14-15-4-1 Away 14-16-3-3 the Sound Tigers were blanked for the fifth time this season in a 5-0 loss to the Springfield Thunderbirds 16.9% (18) PP 18.3% (10) at MassMutual Center just 24 hours ago. Bridgeport guided 39 shots at Finnish netminder Harri Sateri, but couldn’t solve him and dropped below .500 on the road. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena by a score of 4-2. Wayne Simpson, Jordan Szwarz, Mark Naclerio and Alex Grant scored for Providence, while Malcolm Subban contributed with 38 saves on 40 shots in the victory. Wayne Simpson kicked off the scoring just 3:12 into the first period, slipping the puck past Senators Goaltender Chris Driedger to give the P-Bruins a 1-0 lead. Assisting on the goal was forward Anton Blidh and defenseman Rob O’Gara. Despite the strong start from Providence the first period featured even play from both sides, with each team registering 12 shots in the frame. In addition to matching fighting majors delivered to Providence’s Tyler Randell and Binghamton’s Guillaume Lepine, the only other penalty came late in the period. Binghamton’s Kyle Flanagan was whistled for holding at 17:16 in the period, giving Providence a power play opportunity that proved unsuccessful. The Senators came out strong in the second, looking to tie the score in front of the home crowd. At 5:37 they did just that when Casey Bailey tallied his fourth of the season, assisted by Rumble and Englund, to knot the score at 1-1. Binghamton had a prime opportunity to take the lead just minutes later, when P-Bruins defenseman Alex Grant was called for Hooking at 9:19. The Senators opportunity proved to be short-lived however, after Jordan Szwarz slipped a pass from Tyler Randell into the net for a short-handed goal and a 2-1 Providence lead.

    UMass FALL 2009 VOLUME 12 NUMBER 2 MAGAZINE Downtown Hotel Is Now UMass Lowell Inn & Conference Center A Message from the Chancellor In recent decades, campus “dorms” have evolved from cramped, humdrum quarters with little in the way of amenities or privacy into campus “residence halls” with a greater emphasis on comfort, choice and on-site social and academic support activities. This summer, UMass Lowell took a giant leap forward in the possibilities that campus housing can offer by purchasing the Doubletree Hotel in downtown Lowell and transforming it into the UMass Lowell Inn and Conference Center, which this fall became home to 400 upper-class students. The purchase and renovation, as you will read in the cover story in this edition of the UMass Lowell Magazine, brings not only much needed housing space, but also provides the opportunity to develop exciting new programs such as living-learning communities. We have been careful to work with the community and ensure that rooms and conference space are available for the public use, which is important to the economic vitality of the City of Lowell. Bringing students downtown will not only help the local economy, it also will lead to valuable and innovative new academic and engagement partnerships with the region. Why would the campus take on such a significant project in the midst of challenging economic times? UMass Lowell continues to be a campus with enormous momentum. Our incoming class last year grew by 23 percent and overall enrollment increased 10 percent. The purchase of the 252-room downtown facility is a strategic investment that will allow us to reach our goal of having 50 percent of our students live on campus.

    DOBBER’S 2010-11 FANTASY GUIDE DOBBERHOCKEY.COM – HOME OF THE TOP 300 FANTASY PLAYERS I think we’re at the point in the fantasy hockey universe where DobberHockey.com is either known in a fantasy league, or the GM’s are sleeping. Besides my column in The Hockey News’ Ultimate Pool Guide, and my contributions to this year’s Score Forecaster (fifth year doing each), I put an ad in McKeen’s. That covers the big three hockey pool magazines and you should have at least one of them as part of your draft prep. The other thing you need, of course, is this Guide right here. It is not only updated throughout the summer, but I also make sure that the features/tidbits found in here are unique. I know what’s in the print mags and I have always tried to set this Guide apart from them. Once again, this is an automatic download – just pick it up in your downloads section. Look for one or two updates in August, then one or two updates between September 1st and 14th. After that, when training camp is in full swing, I will be updating every two or three days right into October. Make sure you download the latest prior to heading into your draft (and don’t ask me on one day if I’ll be updating the next day – I get so many of those that I am unable to answer them all, just download as late as you can). Collins, who was among 10 national finalists for the 2002 Hobey Baker Award as the top collegiate hockey player in the United States of America, represents the third individual in the program’s history to achieve All-America recognition. He joins a pair of former Bulldog defense- men – John Gruden (1993-94) and Andy Roach (1995-96 and 1996-97) to receive AHCA All-America accolades. Gruden earned first-team All- America honors while Roach was a two-time second-team pick. A 2001-02 All-Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) First-Team honoree, Collins not only earned the distinction of being the school’s first Hobey Baker Award finalist but also the first FSU skater to lead the CCHA in scoring by registering 40 points on 12 goals and 28 assists in 28 league games only this season. Overall this campaign, the Bulldog assistant captain posted a team-best 48 points overall with 15 goals and 33 assists in 36 outings.
