Starting Over Volume 22 Issue 1 Airedale Rescue and Adoption of the Delaware Valley Summer 2019 ARADV AT “MEET THE BREEDS” AT WESTMINSTER DOG SHOW! By Miley & Kathy Appleton ARADV was proud to be asked to help represent the Airedale breed at the “Meet the Breeds” show at the famed Westminster dog show in New York City! It was a busy, excit- ing day for our group of 4 plus 4 dogs. Our humans 2 RESCUE YEAR-TO-DATE By Deb Ciancarelli As you know, starting January 1st, I assumed the role of president of ARADV, and it has been quite the whirlwind!! We started the year with one dog in rescue, the lovely Zoey, who came in right before the holidays. Then came Winston, then Bosco and then Abbey --- all in the month of January! I thought that Angel Joey was up there at the Rainbow Bridge sending all of these Airedales to us to see what I was made of. Well, I think we passed her test because all of our charges so far this year (6 total) are in their forever homes, doing well. In February we braved the icy winds of New York City and proudly represented “The Airedale” at Meet The Breeds at the Westminster Dog Show. What fun we had spending our day “Talking Airedale” to the folks at- tending the show. We had a special visit from Bonny Hart, an adopter who lives right in NYC – it was really nice to meet her after all of these years! Read all about our fabulous day in the headlining story by Kathy Appleton. On May 4th we had a productive rescue meeting at the home of Dewey Yesner for the local volunteers and via Zoom web conferencing for others out of the area. We had a great mix of alumni & current volunteers, members of our adoptive family and brand new people who found us on Facebook! For the first time, we were able to loop in members from the far reaches of our territory and share rescue news and ideas, and to cultivate new volunteer opportunities. We talked about transports, fostering, upcoming events and how volunteers can become active in their community by proactively visiting local shelters. If you are interested in this type of activity in your area, please reach out to me for materials. We are developing a “shelter brochure” and we have new business cards that have a space for your name and number as the local contact. We also made business card sized magnets for handouts to the shelters. Hopefully they will wind up on shelter breakroom refrigerators all over our territory so we will not be forgotten when an Airedale shows up at the shelter. If you have interest in volun- teering in any way, please contact me at [email protected] and I will include you on our volunteer up- date email list. Our next fundraiser will begin in September when we start our next raffle! We have 3 beautiful hand- made quilts to give away to the lucky ticket holders! The tickets will be sold on Facebook and via email cam- paign.
