SWISS INDOORS BASEL: DAY 7 MEDIA NOTES Sunday, 28 October 2018 SWISS INDOORS BASEL: DAY 7 MEDIA NOTES Sunday, 28 October 2018 St. Jakobshalle | Basel, Switzerland | 22-28 October 2018 Draw: S-32, D-16 | Prize Money: €1,984,420 | Surface: Indoor Hard ATP World Tour Info Tournament Info ATP PR & Marketing ATPWorldTour.com SwissIndoorsBasel.ch Fabienne Benoit: [email protected] Facebook: @ATPWorldTour @SwissIndoorsBasel Press Officer: [email protected] Instagram: @ATPWorldTour @SwissIndoorsBasel_official TV & Radio: TennisTV.com FEDERER AIMS FOR 9TH BASEL TITLE, FACES QUALIFIER COPIL IN FINAL • Top seed Roger Federer will try to claim his ninth Swiss Indoors Basel title in his 14th appearance in the Basel final, meeting Marius Copil for the first time in the championship match. Having picked up his 70th match win at the event with his semi-final victory over No. 7 seed Daniil Medvedev (now 14-1 in Basel semi-final matches), Federer is currently riding a 19-match winning streak at the tournament. The Swiss star has reached the Basel final in each of his last 12 appearances (2006- 15, 2017-18), and now sets his sights on winning a 99th career ATP World Tour singles title. • Copil’s terrific week in Basel will continue with the biggest final of his career, as he seeks to become the 14th first-time singles titlist this season. The Romanian reached his first ATP World Tour semi- final and final at Sofia in February, and will now contest a second singles final after making it through the qualifying. Having gone 0-6 against Top 10 players prior to this week, Copil picked up his first Top 10 win over No. 6 Marin Cilic in the second round, and then garnered another in his semi-final upset of No. 5 Alexander Zverev. He is the first qualifier in the Basel final since Marcos Baghdatis in 2005, and the lowest-ranked Basel finalist since No. 100 Patrick McEnroe in 1994. • Alexander Zverev may have fallen to Copil in the singles semi-final, but he will still play for a Basel title on Sunday, as he will partner his older brother Mischa in the doubles championship final. Alexander won at Montpellier in 2017 and reached 4 other doubles finals in his career – all while teamed with his brother. He seeks his second doubles title, while Mischa goes for a fourth career doubles title. They’ll meet Dominic Inglot and Franko Skugor, who paired up for the first time at Budapest in April and promptly won the title. They won again at s-Hertogenbosch two months later.

  • Histoire De L'équpe Suisse De Coupe Davis
