An invitation to celebrate

Holy Week with us…..

The Parish Community of St. James invites you to be present….

as we celebrate the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday, April 17th, at 7:30pm in the Parish Center. As our Lenten season ends, you are invited to share the first liturgy of the “Triduum” ~ the three holiest days of our Church year. Share with us the music and readings, the footwashing, receiving the Eucharist with our parish assembly, the procession in the dark to the Church, and keeping watch during Adoration, until midnight….

We invite you to be present…. as we return on Good Friday, April 18th, at 7:30pm in the Church, for the Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion, remembering the Passion and death of Jesus, and reflecting on the mystery of God’s redeeming love. Hear the Passion Readings proclaimed, participate in the Veneration of the Cross, and the reception of the Eucharist.

We invite you to be present… on Saturday, April 19th, at 7:30pm in the Parish Center for the Celebration of the Easter Vigil (the First Mass of Easter), gathering in the dark around the new fire, illuminating the Paschal Candle, and bringing the Light of Christ into our world. On this night, we welcome the Elect into full membership in the Catholic Church and our faith community of St. James.

Celebrate the Joy of Easter with us….. on Easter Sunday, April 20th, at our Easter Masses. A complete schedule of our Holy Week and Easter liturgies may be found on page 5 of this bulletin, as well as on our website: www.stjamesah.org Please join us. You are most welcome!

How We Receive Communion

Many of us parents received our First Holy Com- munion a very long time ago, and we may have forgotten or relaxed some of the standards for the way we receive the Eucharist. Some of us are in the season of helping our children prepare for their First Holy Communion, and want to sharpen our own understanding. The Church calls the Eucha- rist the "summit and source of our faith," so it would seem pretty important to understand the basics about receiving this sacrament when we go to Mass.

We urge you to invest just 5 minutes watching an informative (and even entertaining!) web video by Join Fr. Dave Dwyer, CSP, in which he explains the do's and don'ts and rights and wrongs of re- ceiving Communion. Some highlights include: • You may choose to receive Communion on the tongue (gently extended) or by hand (one hand under the other). • Express reverence before approaching the minister with a gentle bow, when you are next in line. Do not genuflect or curtsy. • In the Communion dialogue, after the Eucha- ristic Minister says “the body (or blood) of Christ,” respond with “Amen” (not silence or “thank you”). • Don’t be so overly concerned about getting it perfectly right that you can’t appreciate receiv- ing Jesus Christ into your body and your life.

The video can be found at this link: https:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdGkTdv4Dt4, or you can go to youtube.com and type this in the search bar: Sacraments 101 Eucha- rist.

It’s a video you can watch with your whole family!
