DATE: 27 May 2021 The Black Business Council (BBC) will hold its annual Black Business Summit and Gala Dinner on 02nd and 03rd June 2021 at Dimension Data Campus in Bryanston, Johannesburg. “The BBC will afford all its members, interested stakeholders and members of the public the opportunity to engage leaders of business and government on pertinent issues affecting the economy and the country at large, more so as we move the country and nation into economic recovery and vaccination process. The Summit will serve as our extension of the advocacy and policy work on socio-economic transformation and inclusive growth” said the BBC President, Mr Sandile Zungu. The Summit aims to create a platform for enhanced engagement and is themed “Black Business and its vital role in Economic Reconstruction and Recovery – during and post Covid-19”. The Summit will be officially opened by the BBC President, Mr Sandile Zungu, who will talk about The State of Organised Business in South Africa. This will be followed by the highly awaited address by Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane, Minister of Tourism and the Co- Chairperson of the Economic Cluster of Ministers, who will engage on the role of government in the Reconstruction and Recovery of the Economy, during and post the covid-19 pandemic. The session with be followed by a discussion on the opening address and will include Ms Nolitha Fakude, Chairperson of Anglo American’s Management Board in SA and President of Minerals Council of SA; Ms Judy Nwokedi, a National Office Bearer of the BBC; Mr Werner Kapp, Chief Executive Officer of Dimension Data Middle & East Africa; Prof Bonang Mohale, Chancellor of the University of the Free State; Mr Mteto Nyati, Group Chief Executive at Altron and Mr Martin Kingston, Vice President of Business Unity South Africa. The topic on International Cooperations, African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and Opportunities for Black Business will take place from 11h00 - 12h30 and will be led by a Keynote Address from the Secretary General of AfCFTA, H.E Wamkele Mene. He will be joined on the panel by the President of the National Business League (USA). Dr. Ken L. Harris; Ms Mamonagae Mahlare, Managing Director at Illovo Sugar SA, Mr Patrick Dlamini, the CEO of the Development Bank of SA and Mr Larry Yon, Managing Partner and CEO of B&C International (USA). The Minister of Health, Dr Zweli Mkhize will deliver a special address on the vaccine roll-out at 12h30 and he will be followed by a discussion on Transport and its Key Role in Economic

Recovery led by the Minister of Transport, Mr Fikile Mbalula. The President of SANTACO, Mr Phillip Taaibosch and the Group CEO of PRASA, Mr Zolani Matthews, will join the minister on the panel. Day one of the Summit will be concluded by a session with the much-anticipated topic “The State of Economic Transformation, Public Procurement and SMME Development – access to Funding and Markets”. This session will feature Mr Keshan Pillay - Acting CEO at Ubank; Mr TP Nchoncho, CEO of Industrial Development Corporation; Ms Nonkululeko Gobodo, CEO of AWAKEND Global; The B-BBEE Commissioner, Ms Zodwa Ntuli and Mr Stephan Seaka Absa CIB Executive Member and Head of Public Sector & Growth Capital Solutions. The opening of the second day will feature political leaders of the top five (5) parties represented in parliament, who will share their views on Economic Reconstruction and Recovery. The five confirmed leaders are Ms Jessie Duarte, the Deputy Secretary General of the ANC; Mr Geordin Hill - Lewis, the Shadow Finance Minister of the DA; General Bantu Holomisa, the UDM Leader and Mr Velenkosini Hlabisa, the IFP President. The EEF is also invited to speak at the event. The Political Corner will be followed by an address by Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, the Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities. The panel responding to the minister will be graced by Mr Lekau Sehoana, Founder and CEO of Drip Footwear; Ms Yamkela Makupula, CEO of DRT Africa and Member of Ministerial Advisory Committee on Social Change; Ms Masingita Masunga, a Human Rights Activist and TV Presenter and lastly, Mr Waseem Carrim, CEO of the National Youth Development Agency. Mr Parks Tau, the MEC of Economic Development, Environment, Agriculture & Rural Development in Gauteng will headline a discussion on Manufacturing, Industrialisation, Localisation, Beneficiation – as enablers or disablers of Inclusive Economic Growth. This session will feature Ms Lebogang Zulu, CEO of AV South Africa; Ms Nonkululeko Dlamini the Group Chief Financial Officer at Transnet SOC Ltd and Mr Theo Baloyi, Founder and CEO of Bathu Shoes. The last session will tackle the biggest issue of Skills Development and the Fourth Industrial Revolution – their Roles in Economic Growth. This will be led by Ms Stella Ndabeni- Abrahams, Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies. She will be joined by Mr Tom Mkhwanazi, CEO of Wholesale and Retail SETA (W&RSeta); Ms Mapule Ncanywa, Head of Labs at Naspers SA; Dr Setumo Mohapi – Chief Go-To Market Executive, Dimension Data and Ms Tebogo Maenetja, Chief Human Resources Officer at MTN. The two (2) day Summit will culminate in a Gala Dinner addressed by Ms Lindiwe Sisulu, Minister of Human Settlements, Water & Sanitation and Ms Phuti Mahanyele - Dabengwa, Chief Executive Officer of Naspers SA. About the Black Business Council The Black Business Council (BBC) is the over-arching confederation that represents black professional, business associations and chambers. The primary purpose of the BBC is to lobby government on policy related matters and to play an advocacy role where policies are in place in order to accelerate the participation of black business in the mainstream economy.
