ATX is a four-day event that celebrates the television medium: looking back at its history, where it is now, and where it is headed. The festival consists of panels, 4 DAYS 8 VENUES screenings and events where attendees and leaders in the TV industry talk, watch, and experience television together as one community. The first ATX TELEVISION FESTIVAL took place June 1–3, 2012 with over 100 HOURS 700 attendees gathering in Austin, TX to watch television on the big screen, relive favorite series, discover new ones, get inspired, and discuss what’s to come in the the most influential pop culture medium. SEASONS 2 AND 3 grew not only by an additional day of festivities but also UNFORGETTABLE increased attendance and represented series by 30% each year with attending panelists nearly doubling. 1EXPERIENCE 2015’S SEASON 4 brought a sold out festival for the first time, growing by 60% and allowing ATX to use its largest venue to date: the historic Paramount Theatre that seats 1200. OVER 40 OVER 2750 SEASON 5 AND SEASON 6 allowed the festival to evolve into the ideal balance between Industry and Fan programming that has always been its goal. The “TV Camp for grown ups” motto was brought to life, making ATX the ultimate summer getaway for SHOWS TV NERDS TV fans, industry members, and creatives alike, while combining important discussions and organic sponsorship activations, allowing all attendees to have an integrated and expansive television experience. SEASON 7 attendance continued to grow at an organic rate, with the addition of live 275 CAST. CREATORS. recordings at Podcast HQ in the Hulu Badgeholder lounge, and the introduction of our inaugural programming track presented by the ATX foundation, The Syndication Project. This six panel series partnered with the ACLU, the Television Academy, CREW. EXECUTIVES. CLAIR ACHIEVEMENT IN TELEVISION EXCELLENCE AWARD From its inception, ATX has set out to honor impactful and insightful television programming, along with the cast members and creatives who shaped those series. In 2014, the festival presented its first individual achievement award to Henry Winkler, followed by James L. Brooks in 2015, and the Godfather of Television, Norman Lear, in 2016. Legendary sitcom producer and co-founder of the Carsey-Werner Company MARCY CARSEY became the festival’s fourth awardee in 2018, joining us for a conversation with HBO Senior Vice President of Programming Kathleen McCaffrey about her extensive career, the lasting impact of Carsey- “WHAT ELSE REFLECTS SOCIETY AND OUR CONCERNS MORE THAN TELEVISION? Werner’s series, and the future of I THINK IT’S MIRACULOUS, AND I THINK IT’S BEST WHEN IT LEADS RATHER THAN television. FOLLOWS WHAT IS GOING ON OUT THERE.” — MARCY CARSEY THE PITCH COMPETITION ATX Television Festival and Final Draft, Inc. partnered to create an invaluable opportunity for industry hopefuls to gain rare access to both TV creatives and Studio decision-makers. Contestants submitted pitches in the form of 90 second videos via YouTube that were viewed by a panel of industry judges who narrowed them to 10 finalists. They could pitch any type of show they wanted: a 1/2 hour drama for a traditional network, an hour drama for cable, a hybrid for original online content. The only guideline was that it be for a scripted (non-reality) series and pitched in under a minute and a half. Those 10 FINALISTS then pitched for 3 minutes LIVE at the festival, where judges chose one (1) winner. 557 VIDEO SUBMISSIONS were received and narrowed down to 20 SEMI-FINALISTS by a panel of screeners. The winner received a mentor session with a Pitch Judge to help hone and develop his pitch, as well as an opportunity to pitch the finalized version to a Studio/Network partner of the festival. The winner also spent one week sitting in on an active writers room (complete with a one-on-one lunch with the showrunner), a three-month subscription to THE BLACK LIST, and an Industry Badge to ATX Television Festival 2018. Past Winners have been signed by representation by the end of the weekend, pitched to Networks/Studios such as Sony TV, 20th Century Fox, NBC/Universal, Happy Madison, Paramount TV, and established new creative relationships for upcoming projects. 2018 SPECIAL EVENTS OPENING NIGHT launched Season 7 with a red carpet and premiere screening of HBO’s SHARP OBJECTS followed by a Q&A with actor/EP Amy Adams, director/ EP Jean-Marc Vallée, showrunner/EP Marti Noxon, author/writer Gillian Flynn, Blumhouse Productions Founder & CEO Jason Blum, eOne Television’s President of Global Scripted Programming Pancho Mansfield, and HBO’s EVP of Programming, David Levine. The after-event, hosted at the Jones Center Moody Rooftop at The Contemporary Austin, featured premium food, a branded Smilebooth, Lone Star Beer and beverages from Casamigos Tequila.
