That run comprised seven wins and five draws. • Les Verts' nine-game unbeaten home run in Europe stretches back to the quarter-finals of the 1980/81 UEFA Cup, when a team featuring UEFA President Michel Platini lost 4-1 to Ipswich Town FC at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard. -

Brand Management Strategy for Korean Professional Football Teams : A Model for Understanding the Relationships between Team Brand Identity, Fans’ Identification with Football Teams, and Team Brand Loyalty A thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy By Ja Joon Koo School of Engineering and Design Brunel University March 2009 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I wish to thank many individuals without whom the completion of this dissertation would not have been possible. I also wish to extend express thankfulness for my college Gwang Jin Na. His valuable comments were much appreciated to conduct LISREL. In addition, my special thanks go to all respondents who completed my survey. Finally, but definitely not least, I would like to give my special appreciation to my family. To my parent, thank you for their endless love and support. I thank my brother, Ja Eun for his patience and encouragement throughout this process. Especially, my lovely wife, Mee Sun and son, Bon Ho born during my project have encouraged me to complete this dissertation not to give up. I am eternally grateful to all of you. i ABSTRACT This research recommends a new approach to brand strategy for Korean professional football teams, focusing on the relationships between team brand identity as the basic element of sports team branding, team brand loyalty as the most desirable goal, and identification between fans and teams as the mediator between identity and loyalty. Nowadays, professional football teams are no longer merely sporting organisations, but organisational brands with multi-million pound revenues. -

RapportU17•08:Rapport•08 26.6.2008 11:06 Page 3 ENGLISH SECTION Introduction The 2008 finals were unusual in that three of the 2007 finalists – France, Netherlands and Spain – were in Turkey, with Juan Santisteban’s side completing a ‘hat trick’ in a competition where continuity is not a common factor. There was unanimous praise for the organisation, the attention to logistics and the quality of playing and training surfaces. All but one of the matches were played at out-of-town stadiums, resulting in modest atten- dance figures, even though tickets were free and promotional cavalcades patrolled the streets of Antalya. -

Form guide • St-Étienne goalkeeper Stéphane Ruffier saved Nikola Kalinić's first-half penalty as the sides drew 0-0 in France on matchday two. • Dnipro have drawn all four of their previous home games against French sides, most recently contesting a 2-2 result against Olympique de Marseille in the 2006 UEFA Intertoto Cup. • Dnipro have lost both of their Group F home fixtures 1-0. • St-Étienne have drawn all five of their group stage games so far, and could become the first side to draw all six in a major UEFA club competition group stage since Juventus broke new ground in the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League. Trivia and links • Dnipro are the most fouled team in the group stage so far, having suffered 93 offences. -

TECHNICAL REPORT 2008/09 Title in Arial bold 22 pt Subtitle in Arial regular 14 pt ENGLISH SECTION PARTIE FRANÇAISE DEUTSCHER TEIL STATISTICS PHOTO: POTTS / PA WIRE / PA IMAGES TECHNICAL REPOrt This report has been published as a record of the 2008/09 UEFA Champions League, which was the competition’s seventeenth season. In addition to the factual and statistical data that make it a valuable reference work, it contains analysis, reflections and debating points which, it is hoped, will give technicians food for thought and, by highlighting tendencies and trends at the peak of professional football, also offer coaches who are active at the development levels of the game information that may be helpful in terms of working on the qualities which will be needed by the UEFA Champions League performers of the future. Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand can only watch as Lionel Messi jumps just far enough upwards and backwards to deliver the looping header which put FC Barcelona 2-0 up in the 70th minute of the final in Rome. THE ROADS THAT LED TO ROME Distance is meant to lend perspective, but it can also blur the vision. The fact that the neutrals who, when the group stage kicked off in September, predicted a Manchester United v Barcelona final were watching it just over eight months later gives the impression that the 124-match pilgrimage to Rome had been a relentless march towards a foregone conclusion. That was by no means the case. It is easy to forget that FC Barcelona won only half of their home games, or that they were being counted out during the final seconds of their heavyweight semi-final contest with Chelsea – only for Andrés Iniesta to produce the stunning drive which earned a trip to Rome. -
