“DesertSeal” at ISPO Summer 2007 Munich, Germany, July 8 – 10, 2007

AV’s “DesertSeal” was shown this past July at the world’s largest sports fair held at Messe München International (Munich Trade Fairs International). In a special presentation given by the European Space Agency‘s Technology Transfer Program, the tent, designed to keep an occupant comfortably cool in an extremely hot environment, served as an example of a terrestrial application of advanced textile technology derived from space research. “DesertSeal” prototype

Toward a Lunar Architecture: 37th ICES Chicago, Illinois, USA, July 9 - 12, 2007

Arturo Vittori presented the paper “MarsCruiserOne” (2007-01-3059) written by , Arturo Vittori, Stephen Ran- som and Loris Granziera at International Conference on Environmental Systems in Chicago. The presentation took place as part of the Aerospace Architecture Session. While in Chicago, Vittori delivered a 1/100 scale model of AV’s “MoonBaseTwo” that is now permanently installed in the Henry Crown “MoonBaseTwo” - Model scale 1/100 Photographer: J.B. Summer School at Berufsfachhochschule BFH Burgdorf, Switzerland, August 20 – September 15, 2007

Andreas Vogler was invited to participate in the Summer School session at the archi- tecture department at the Berne University of Applied Sciences. Fifteen local students worked together with ten Chinese ex- change students on a mobile village based on airfreight containers (Unit Load Device). The challenge for the students was to design a village that can temporarily house 100 Student proposal for a foldable structure people. The Summer School session was headed by architect and visual artist Christian Waldvogel, and co-headed by BHF Professor, Guy Lafranchi and Andreas Vogler. “DesertSeal” at Istanbul Design Week Istanbul, Turkey, September 4 – 10, 2007

Following the successful run in France, the exhibition FuturoTextiles, organized by Lille 3000, traveled to Turkey for Istan- bul Design Week at the Old Galata Bridge. AV’s “DesertSeal” was part of the caravan! A catalogue of the exhibition is now available online at the link below. Workshop and Symposium at NitroSicily Gioiosa Marea, Italy, September 5 – 12, 2007

Arturo Vittori was invited to the architectural design school NitroSicily in Gioiosa Marea to participate in a symposium and workshop highlighting new materials and technologies being used in contemporary architectural practice. This project, curated by architect Antonio Saggio, is part of the ongoing “IT Revolution in Architecture” series. NitroSicily is a multidisciplinary lab, studio Workshop participants - photo Javier Ideami and symposium center open to scholars, students, intellectuals and decision-makers who seek to collaborate on special projects in a beautiful Mediterranean coastal setting. “DesertSeal” at Rome Design+ Expo Rome, Italy, October 05 – 13, 2007

AV will be exhibiting their “DesertSeal” project at Spazio Etoile in the Piazza San Lorenzo, Lucina, as part of the prestigious International Design show, Roma Design piu’. The expo promotes design culture while spon- soring dialogue in the international arena. In addition to hundreds of exhibits, multi- ple programs and seminars, meetings and performances will be held in various locations throughout the city.
