Band: Invoker (D) Genre: Blackened Death Metal Label: Non Serviam Records Albumtitle: Aeon Duration: 44:55 Releasedate: 30.10.2015 Have you ever been in Köthen? I haven't either. However, before you ask yourself what Lupus wants from you: Here is the solution. The town is in Saxony-Anhalt from where the Extreme Metal fraction Invoker comes. They beat one around the head with their new album "Aeon" and it packs the punch! Already the first tones of the titletrack "Aeon" shows us that the genre-typical components will dominate this album. There are really deep riffs for one and fast hysteric riffs for another on the basis of doublebass and blastbeats that send one on a journey to Norway. One can obviously realize the Scandinavian influences of Death and Black Metal. Well, I take my hat off to the vocals. It is simply awesome how deep the growls are. This fits perfectly to the general schema. Of course, each song is now build up on this base, but Invoker makes the whole more open. The songs don't always start with a slam or knock directly all out. They trouble to create a sense of excitement giving the songs dynamic. Obvisiously the songs are usually energetic as the music is dragging and slow from time to time to then return to the classical schema. "Lawless Hunter" is a good example in this case. Also the long instrumental phases strike out positively and give the overblown music time to spread out. Sure, the riffs become unidimensional at the end as one has already heard this sound in any way. However, this doesn't distract one from the fact, that Invoker presents a consistently positive album with a good mix of Death and Black Metal. Nevertheless, one question remains at the end. What came over the guys by "The Wolves Chant"? It is a two minutes interaction of romantic piano and violins sound among an album that shines through brachial music. That doesn't have something to do with experiments, this is simply an extremely stylistic inconsistency. Conclusion: I don't know how Köthen looks like and what one can experience there. But, for sure, I know that a really good Extreme Metal formation comes from this place. Furthermore, they have created an awesome second album that I entrust to anyone for a quick listening at least.
