Boy Scouts of America Flint River Council 1361 Zebulon Road Griffin, Georgia 30224 Flint River Council - Fayette District Fort Benning Camporee 6-8 April 2018 (Friday thru Sunday afternoon) US Army Fort Benning, Georgia DRAFT FOR PLANNING AND COORDINATION --- as of 8 FEBRUARY 2018 On Friday, 6 April, Scout troops from Flint River Council, Fayette District will depart for Fort Benning, GA Maneuver Center of Excellence (MCOE) to participate in camping, US Army Ranger School graduation, Rangers in Action demonstrations, Infantry and Army School weapons simulations. Additionally, Troops will visit the US Army National Infantry Museum and may plan to participate in Whitewater Express rafting and zipline activities on the Chattahoochee River in Columbus, GA. We will eat select meals at a Fort Benning Dining Facility (DFAC). Troops will camp overnight at the Fort Benning MWR Camping facility located at Kings Pond (vicinity of Harmony Church). Plan to depart Fort Benning around 4pm on Sunday, 8 April. Please use Fort Benning GA Access Control Point (GATE) 7 off Hwy 27 South at the 8th Division Road Exit • 6 April - Friday arrive at US Army Ranger school NLT 9am for RIA demonstration and graduation. The event runs from 9:30am – approximately 11:40am. Eat Lunch in MCoE - 194th Armor Brigade, Dining Facility. Visit the Fort Benning Battle Training Simulations Center and WWII Vehicle Restoration Center. Set up Troop camp sites and conduct individual troop activities. Troops prepare evening meal in their campsite. 7 April - Saturday participate in campout activities, visit US Army National Infantry Museum, and/ or participate in Whitewater Express activities coordinated by the troop. Prepare and eat Breakfast and lunch in the troop camp site. Scouts will participate in the Fort Benning Post flag retreat ceremony at the Post HQ, (1 Karker Street (Bldg 4) WEAR CLASS A Uniform. Eat evening meal / dinner in MCoE - 194th Armor Brigade, Dining Facility. Plan to participate in a Saturday Scouts Own vesper service and evening campfire in the Kings Pond camping area. 8 April – Sunday, Troop prepared breakfast in the campsite followed by activities that include visit US Army National Infantry Center Museum, and/ or participate in Whitewater Express activities coordinated by the troop. Break camp and depart Fort Benning o/a 4pm on Sunday. THIS OUTING IS ON A US ARMY - FEDERAL GOVERNMENT INSTALLATION OBEY ALL TRAFFIC SIGNS, WARNINIG SIGNS, AND SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS - ENSURE YOU OBEY POSTED SPEED LIMITS. USE of CELL PHONES WHILE DRIVING A VEHICLE REQUIRES A HANDS FREE DEVISE (BLUETOOTH). PAY ATTENTION TO POSTED WILDLIFE RESTRICTIONS (WOODPECKER HABITAT) AND ALLIGATOR CAUTIONS Coordinating Instructions: • Complete and provide a Troop registration (List Scouts and Adults) NLT 23 March 2018. • Troops plan individual activities @ Whitewater Express (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). • Cost for the CAMPOREE outing is $15.00/person for 2 DFAC meals and camping. Provide Payment with registration. • Campsite area will be assigned at check in. • Troop provide own equipment, plan meals (minus 2 meals at DFAC) and activities. • Still TBD in planning - Scouts may be able to use the Briant Wells Swimming Pool or other FBGA recreation facilities. • Scouts visiting the National Infantry Museum should be in full CLASS A Scout Uniform. Troop must provide supervision and 2 deep leadership. • Troop Chaplain Aides will assist in the Saturday evening Worship Service at Kings Pond Camp area. • Group times for Friday afternoon simulations center and WWII restoration center will be provided. • Clear your campsite, remove all trash and equipment and complete and check out at Kings Pond Pavilion, Fort Benning, GA prior to departure on Sunday, 8 April.
