Proceedings ● ISBN 978-86-81294-06-2 __________________________________________________________________________________ Preface The aim of the 6th International e-Conference on Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences (6IeCSHSS) was to bring together scholars, administrators and students from different countries, and to discuss theoretical and practical issues in different areas of Humanities and Social Sciences. The e-Conference was organized as a kind of a multi-disciplinary forum which provided the appropriate opportunities for inter-disciplinary communications. The areas of study covered by the e-Conference were the following: Philosophy, Anthropology, Psychology, Science of Education, History, Linguistics, Arts, Sociology, Political Science, Law, and Economics. The e-Conference was organized in cooperation with the COAS Partner Institutions: South-West University “Neofit Rilski”, Faculty of Philosophy, Blagoevgrad, BULGARIA, University of Ruse “Angel Kanchev”, Faculty of Business and Management, Ruse, BULGARIA, and Albanian University, Tirana, ALBANIA. The e-Conference was organized exclusively as an online conference, and the English was the only language of the conference. Two phases of the e-Conference realization was applied. The first phase was realized as the e-Pre-Conference Discussion (from 20 to 23 December 2020), and this phase was followed by the posting at the COAS website different textual forms sent by the e-Conference participants, such as discussions, analyses, critics, comments, suggestions, proposals, etc., regarding exposed abstracts. The second phase was the e-Conference Discussion, and it was realized at the e-Conference day (24 December 2020), from 00 to 24 (GMT+01:00). This discussion was realized in the same way as the e-Pre-Conference discussion, regarding the full texts exposed at the COAS website. All submitted abstracts/full texts went through two reviewing processes: (1) double-blind (at least two reviewers), and (2) non-blind (two members of the Scientific Committee). Thus, final decision for the presenting and publishing depended of these two kinds of reviews, in order to be accepted for presentation at the conference and to be published in the e-Conference Proceedings. The Conference Proceedings will be submitted for indexing in different international databases. Finally, we would like to thanks to all participants of the e-Conference, as well as to all reviewers and editors, for their efforts, which enable that the e-Conference was productive experience. We are looking forward to the 7th International e-Conference on Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences (7IeCSHSS) that will be held on 28 June 2021, using the same online model. We hope that it will be an interesting and enjoying at least as the previous e-Conference.     Revising Perspectives on Nineteenth-Century Jewish Composers: A Case Study Comparison of Ignaz Brüll and Salomon Jadassohn by Adana Whitter B.A., Universit y of British Columbia, 2009 A THESIS SUBMITTED IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF MASTER OF ARTS in The Faculty of Graduate Studies (Music) THE UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA (Vancouver) March 2013 © Adana Whitter, 2013 i Abstract The influence of anti-Semitism on the lives and careers of Jewish musicians within the social climate of nineteenth-century Europe is well known. Pamela Potter, Sander Gilman, Philip Bohlman, and K. M. Knittel have thoroughly explored the anti-Semitic treatment of Jewish composers during this period. Definitions of the experience of Jewish composers have been crystallized on the basis of prominent cases, such as Gustav Mahler or Alexander Zemlinsky, who were actively discussed in the press or other publications. The goal of this study is to examine whether the general view of anti-Semitism, as shown in those studies, applies to other Jewish composers. To this aim, this thesis will introduce two lesser known Jewish composers, Ignaz Brüll (1846-1907) and Salomon Jadassohn (1831-1902) as case studies, consider closely their particular situations at the end of the nineteenth century, and assess their positions vis-à-vis the general views of how musician Jews were treated in these societies. Chapter One outlines the historical and political context in Germany and Austria, where these two composers resided, in order to understand where they fit into that context. Chapter Two focuses on Jewishness in music, the difficulties involved in defining Jewish music, along with the contributions of other Jewish composers to the wider European culture, and makes clear the important part anti- Semitism played in the process of identification during this period.
