Mr. Udomsak Chan-On Rally Director, Auto Racing Magazine & Clerk of Course 5 King’s Cup Trophy The 30th Rally of Thailand 2017 Rally Guide 2 (15/11/2017) 1.2 Brief Event History Nowadays automobile plays a prominent role not only in the daily life but also in sports activity. Motor Sports Competition or Rally is now claimed as one of automotive competitions which is very popular in the world as there are many people and agencies concerned in the competition including drivers, organisers, automobile manufacturers in order to develop car racing competition. In the Kingdom of Thailand, the sport of motor racing is known since World War II when HRH Prince Biraphong Bhanubhandra incredibly captured titles three successive times. Since then rallying activity in Thailand becomes more and more famous when there is the 1st Asian Highway Rally Championships in Thailand. The Championships saw drivers from Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand in action in the competition. With an aspiration to uplift rally standard and to promote tourism in the Kingdom of Thailand, the Auto Racing Magazine Team decides to organise the 1st International Rally competition entitled International Rally of Thailand in 1989. The 1st International Raly drew a dramatic success and a number of wellknown overseas drivers in the competition like Japanese Kenjiro Shinozuka, Australian Fred Goeentas, three Malaysian racers – Kan Chee Hong, Henry Yap and Francis Lee along with Thai rising star - Panus Kuansathaporn, Pornsawan Siriwatanakul, Surakij Kulkumthorn, Kitiphume Chaojaksiri, etc. The major sport activity is incredibly and tremendously known in the country when the Federation International de L’ Automobile: (FIA.) gives recognition and sanctions the International Rally of Thailand to be one of the main rallies in the Asia-Pacific Region three years later. Since then, the International Rally of Thailand attracts a number of world famous racing teams such as Tommy Makinen, Colin McRae, Richard Burns, Peter ‘Possum’ Bourne, Yoshio Fujimoto, Nobuhiro ‘Monster’ Tajima, Yoshihiro Kataoka, etc. Auto Racing Magazine Team and working staff not only upgrade rallying standard in the country but also bring rally activity into a limelight when the organisers decided to have live tv broadcast of the competition via the most famous television channel TV.7 In 2002, His Majesty The King graciously presented the prestigious King’s Cup Trophy to the Organisers to award to the overall winner of the international Rally of Thailand. Until now, people acknowledges that the rally activity in Thailand is one of the most popular and exciting automobile event in the Kingdom of Thailand for over 30 years and will go on and no forever. 6 King’s Cup Trophy The 30th Rally of Thailand 2017 Rally Guide 2 (15/11/2017) 1.3 Previous Winners RALLY OF THAILAND 1989 Pornsawan Siriwattanakul (Thailand) Queen’s Cup Trophy Mitsubishi Galant VR-4 2012 Cave TOM (LAF) Proton Neo 1990 Kenjiro Shinozuka (Japan) King’s Cup Trophy Mitsubishi Galant VR-4

  • KCF Month …..Get Your Entries In…
Brisport October 2018 KCF Month …..get your entries in…. What’s in this month’s edition? • Another great read – we hope! • How about sending us a story or two! Brisport October 2018 PRESIDENTS REPORT OCTOBER 2018 Another major month has just passed for BSCC in the seemingly heavily loaded back end of the year. Just the way the cookie has crumbled this year what with weather, other events that both did happen or where meant to happen and availability of people. Which is not to say there is not still much more to come, so a big finish beckons. September of course saw the running of the biggest event in the BSCC and perhaps Queensland Rallying Calendar with the running of the SR Automotive Manumbar Rally. It was a major test of crews and cars covering the year’s longest competitive distance across some of the great roads available in South East Queensland. It was a pretty full on day starting early and finishing as the sun faded over another terrific day of hot competition. A full report follows in the magazine but I must make a special thanks to Simon and Margot Knowles, Brad Hurford (plus Kelli, Rachel & Chloe), Margaret MacKay and the extensive team who continue to put this event together. It was interesting to hear of the developing mystique around this event, drawing as it does on some of the more senior competitors and officials’ fond memories of the Gallangowan event days. But also to realise that it is ever changing and evolving with the support of the local community and lots and lots of hard work to unearth and bring on new roads and challenges.

In 2015 six events make-up the championship starting in New Zealand with the fast and smooth roads at Rally of Whangarei. The APRC then heads to Asia to the very hot and humid Malaysian Rally based in Johor Bahru. Japan is next and the fast forestry and public roads of Rally Hokkaido, followed by the championship finale in the bamboo forests and mountains of Zhejiang province, China. In 2015 India will host an ‘Asia Cup only’ event, with a view to having full status in the future. Registered competitors can score points for the drivers, teams and manufacturers championships in the six rounds (not including India) and must enter a minimum of five events to qualify. Alternatively if an APRC registered Team nominates to run a vehicle in all events then multiple drivers can enter one-off events with that team and score APRC drivers points.
