BACKGROUND

The information presented in this report was compiled using data with the date range of July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2011. Data was pulled from the MetroSafe 911 CAD, which is used to dispatch Police, Fire & EMS to emergencies in Louisville Metro. The numbers presented in this report represents one event for each agency. On many of the events, multiple units may have responded to the scene, but only one event was counted.

The data that was used was pulled from the archive databases from the Intergraph Cad system. The following tables were used: LMSARC_BI_AEVEN, LMSARC_BI_EV_TY, and LMSARC_BI_EVENT. A Microsoft Access database was built to pull the data using the date parameters listed above. XY coordinates were attached and the data was then geocoded in order to pull out the Urban/Suburban counts.

The event type of SPECIAL also includes some Arson related events.

Many areas that “border” the boundary lines that separate urban and suburban share a “Mutual Aid” response on certain event types.

Suburban Fire Departments at times when LFD is working a major event will “Lap In” to a LFD fire house and respond to events within the city as a LFD unit.

LOUISVILLE METRO EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE

Louisville Metro EMS is a combined metro-wide agency, broken into 6 Divisions. LMEMS made 189,206 events for the two year period. The event types that LMEMS respond to are too numerous to list in this report. Within LMEMS response area, Anchorage EMS & Yellow service makes runs for LMEMS in the cities of Anchorage and Jeffersontown. Below is a table that represents the breakdown.

AGENCY ALL URBAN SUBURBAN PERCENT in PERCENT in URB SUB LMEMS 189206 101615 87591 46.29% 53.71%

ANCHORAGE EMS responds to emergency runs as a representative of LMEMS. While their primary responsibility is to the citizens of Anchorage, the majority of their runs are represented throughout the Louisville Metro Area. The event count is included in the above count for LMEMS. Both agencies share the same event number scheme.

When an emergency call for EMS comes into our center and it is determined to be inside the Jeffersontown city limits, the call is transferred over to Yellow EMS for Dispatch. However, there are many times when LMEMS will respond to the run due to closeness or when Yellow is out of units. Below is a breakdown of Yellow Ambulance Service.
