James Lavelle

Since the early nineties James Lavelle has been on a global roller coaster ride. It’s taken him from being an obsessive 18 year old indie record label boss to the heart of corporate record company darkness and back to the light with an array of dynamic visual adventures based around the collec- tive musical experience of his UNKLE project. That free-roaming electronic indie project has spawned a number of classic albums featuring the likes of Thom Yorke, DJ Shadow and Richard Ashcroft and formed the very heart of the Mo Wax Output. The seminal label also released definitive albums from the likes of DJ Shadow (a seminal slab of vinyl that has since notched up sales in excess of a million), Money Mark and David Axelrod as well as countless EPs from those including Andrea Parker, Jordan Fields and DJ Krush.

Aside from running that label from a scarily young age, James Lavelle has also been a much in demand DJ who has mixed it up for the famed Fabri- clive series, held a residency at the club for five years (as well as residen- cies at other top spots like Womb and Zouk) and has also done mixes for the likes of Global Underground that fused house, breaks and techno together in fresh and exciting ways. Obsessed with the collision of music, fashion and art James forged links with Nigo at A Bathing Ape and launched Mo' Wax Arts to translate Futura 2000’s concepts and images into merchandise, toys and fashion.
