Islamic tradition narrates that after the name Muhammad, or his titles such as the Holy Prophet or the Founder of Islam, one should say “peace and blessings be upon him.” After the names of other Prophets and Messengers of God, one should give respect by offering “on whom be peace” after their respective names. The actual salutations have not been set out in full for the sake of brevity; however the reader should treat the full salutation as implicit upon seeing the names of these noble personalities. While the Arabic term Khalifa may refer to a “successor” of any prophet, in the present work it generally refers to the successors of the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. The reader may refer to the Glossary for more details. In referencing the Holy Qur’an, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community counts “In the Name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful” as the first verse of the chapter in which it appears. However, some publishers of the Holy Qur’an begin counting after the above-mentioned verse. Should the reader not find the relevant verse under the number we have given, it would be found in the adjacent lower number. Translation of the Arabic verses of the Holy Qur’an mentioned in this book have been taken from Maulawi Sher Ali’s translation found in “The Holy Qur’an - Arabic Text and English Translation” published in 2004 by Islam International Publications Ltd. Many translators add explanatory words in their translation, which is not found in the Qur’anic text; but they see to it that the reader is not misled to consider them as the words of the Qur’an. We have italicized such words when reproducing the translation within this book as well. Rather than include footnotes, we have preferred to provide a Glossary of Arabic and and Islamic terms. These can be found starting on page 210. x BY THE DAWN’S EARLY LIGHT Foreword “Our Lord, we have heard a Crier calling us unto faith, ‘Believe ye in your Lord,’ and we have believed.” Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya USA presents 40 stories, 40 lives, of young men born into diverse faiths and belonging to different racial and cultural backgrounds – all sharing one common trait: they were blessed with the courage to follow their inner voice. These brothers challenged the status quo and did not allow dogma to cloud their vision. They prove to us that human beings can change. During that process, some lost their families while others lost much more. But they heard the crier, believed, and in the end, found God Almighty! I have the distinct honor of personally knowing many of these brothers. Whenever I meet one of them, I am awestruck by how the ‘Crier’ is still calling people unto faith. Whether you were born into the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, joined it in your lifetime, or are still seeking, at some point must not each ‘hear the Crier’ and proclaim with your actions that you believe? Making that decision is a heavy burden, one which requires the painful process of self- analysis, personal change and sacrifice. Please join me in praying: “Our Lord, forgive us, therefore, our errors and remove from us our evils, and in death number us with the righteous” (Qur’an 3:194) and let this process begin. Faheem Younus Qureshi Sadr, Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya USA Acknowledgments xi Acknowledgments His Holiness, Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Fifth Khalifa of the Holy Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, blessed this initiative with much needed prayers and guidance. May Allah strengthen his hands. Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya (MKA) USA conceived, staffed, and funded the publication of this book. A terrific team of editors worked diligently with our writers to ensure high quality stories: Managing Editor Sardar Anees Ahmad, Salaam Bhatti, Qasim Rashid, Imran Tahir, and Harris Zafar. As the Production Editor, Naem R. Mohamed took 40 separate stories and sifted through hundreds of photos to design and produce this book. Our Cover Artist, Muksit Jamil, created a simple and thought-provoking piece, which represents precisely the message we wish to convey to our readers: Islam is just as much for Americans as it is for those in the East. Salman Sajid helped to bring the cover from concept to final form. National Amila (Board) members guided the project from its nascent stages on through copyediting. In particular, we owe a debt of gratitude to its Sadr (President), Faheem Younus Qureshi, for his gracious and selfless support. Rizwan Alladin, Bilal Rana, Atif Mian, Muhammad Ahmad Chaudhry, Abdul Hadi Ahmed, Nasir Ahmad, and all Qaideen (Leaders) of MKA shared advice and reached out to converts in their locales to make the book come to fruition. Amjad Mahmood Khan served as Copy Editor for the compiled manuscript. Finally, we thank our writers for their inspiring stories. The Holy Prophet Muhammad said, “When a person dies, his actions come to an end except in respect of three matters that he leaves behind: a continuing charity, knowledge from which benefit could be derived and righteous progeny who pray for him.” (Sahih Muslim) We pray that these stories continue to benefit and guide readers for generations to come. Naveed A. Malik Editor-in-Chief Chicago, Illinois May 27, 2009 xii BY THE DAWN’S EARLY LIGHT Introduction Who speaks for Islam? The short answer is everyone. Politicians, pundits and priests – everyone has an opinion. Lost in the discussion, however, are the voices of American converts to Islam. Converts offer a unique and insightful perspective on Islam; neither did they inherit their Islamic beliefs, nor did they engage in agenda- driven research. By the Dawn’s Early Light represents the voice of a new generation of American Muslims. Despite the fact that fanatical clerics misrepresent Islam, Americans continue to be drawn to Islam’s true teachings; indeed they are converting at an increasing pace, especially since the tragic events of September 11, 2001. This book captures the stories of 40 young men from diverse religious, ethnic, racial and geographical backgrounds. They share their personal relationships with the Muslim world’s only Khalifa. Raised as Christians, Jews, or Orthodox Muslims – all who are now Ahmadi Muslims – they come to you from all across America – Hawaii to Massachusetts – and indeed from around the world. They are Black, White, and Latino. They are security guards, professors, truck drivers, actors and engineers.

  • Surah Al-Anfal Tafsir – Nouman Ali Khan Lecture Notes
بسم هللا الرحمن الرحيم Surah Al-Anfal Tafsir – Nouman Ali Khan Lecture Notes Introduction and Verse 1 The introduction of this Surah is quite long but it is significant and very important to set the stage for what is about to follow. This is part of a series of surahs – Surah Anfal and Surah Taubah. This surah is related to the previous surah (Surah A’raf) in that they both talk about the ‘Sunnah of Allah’ (Sunnatillah). It talks about how Allah deals with similar Nations in the same way. It is mentioned in the Qur’an: [This is] the established way of Allah with those who passed on before; and you will not find in the way of Allah any change. [33:62] In the second half of Surah A’raf, Allah talks about the worldly destruction of nations and people that came before, specially the people of Musa and the destruction and drowning of Fir’awn and in Surah Anfal Allah will talk about the destruction of the people of Makkah (NOT the entire Arabian Peninsula). The Makkans here will be destroyed and defeated by the very swords of the believers – the army behind Rasulallah (s). It is not going to be fire from the skies, not a flood or an earthquake but the companions themselves. Part of the Sunnah of Allah is that punishments usually come down in two different forms: 1. Smaller punishments are sent as warnings before it is too late for example the nine signs of Musa(as) 2. Eventually the greater and major punishment is sent down for example the drowning of Fir’awn.

DIALOGUE & OUTREACH Department OIC Islamophobia Observatory Monthly Bulletin – January 2018 MANIFESTATIONS OF ISLAMOPHOBIA: A. In the United States and Canada: US: Minnesota Republicans under fire for saying Muslims are infiltrating the party— Two Minnesota Republican state lawmakers and a local GOP official were facing scrutiny after they reportedly shared a Facebook post accusing Muslims of preparing to “infiltrate” the party’s caucuses this month. State Reps. Kathy Lohmer and Cindy Pugh, shared the post created by Dave Sina, chairman of the Fourth Congressional District GOP. In the post, Sina said a friend of his had attended a caucus training session held at a mosque by the Muslim American Society. MAS was a nonpartisan organization that promoted civic engagement among American Muslims with local chapters across the US. Sina claimed that Muslims were trying to “infiltrate our republican caucuses on Feb. 6” and that “they didn’t talk about the general election but I am sure they are ahead of us in that as well.” The local party chair played to a sense of hysteria that American Muslims were, and would always be, foreigners who want political influence only to harm the country. The former White House chief strategist faced mounting pressure to resign from Breitbart after he was quoted disparaging President Donald Trump and his family in a new book “Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House” by Michael Wolff.

The Role Of The Women In Fighting The Enemies [Please note: Images may have been removed from this document. Page numbers have been added.] By the martyred Shaykh, Al-Hafith Yusuf Bin Salih Al-‘Uyayri (May Allah have Mercy upon him) Introduction In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Most Merciful Verily all praise is due to Allah, and may the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family and all of his companions. To proceed: My honoured sister, Indeed for you is an important and great role; and you must rise and fulfill your obligatory role in Islam 's confrontation of the new Crusade being waged by all the countries of the world against Islam and the Muslims. I will address you in these papers, and I will prolong this address due only to the importance of the topic; [a topic] that is in need of double these papers. So listen, may Allah protect and preserve you. The Muslim Ummah today is suffering from types of disgrace and humiliation that cannot be enumerated; [disgrace and humiliation] that it was not familiar with in its previous eras, and were never as widespread as they are today. And this disgrace and humiliation is not a result of the smallness of the Islamic Ummah or its poverty - it is counted as the largest Ummah today, just as it is the only Ummah that possesses the riches and elements that its enemies do not possess. And the question that presents itself is: what is the reason for this disgrace and humiliation that the Ummah suffers from today, when it is not in need of money or men? We say that

  • 35 Ahmadiyya
Malaysian Journal of International Relations, Volume 6, 2018, 35-46 ISSN 2289-5043 (Print); ISSN 2600-8181 (Online) AHMADIYYA: GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF A PERSECUTED COMMUNITY Abdul Rashid Moten ABSTRACT Ahmadiyya, a group, founded in 19th century India, has suffered fierce persecution in various parts of the Muslim world where governments have declared them to be non-Muslims. Despite opposition from mainstream Muslims, the movement continued its proselytising efforts and currently boasts millions of followers worldwide. Based on the documentary sources and other scholarly writings, this paper judges the claims made by the movement's founder, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, analyses the consequences of the claims, and examines their proselytizing strategies. This paper found that the claims made by Mirza were not in accordance with the belief of mainstream Muslims, which led to their persecution. The reasons for their success in recruiting millions of members worldwide is to be found in their philanthropic activities, avoidance of violence and pursuit of peace inherent in their doctrine of jihad, exerting in the way of God, not by the sword but by the pen. Keywords: Ahmadiyya, jihad, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, Pakistan, philanthropy INTRODUCTION The Qur’an categorically mentions that Muhammad is the last in the line of the Prophets and that no prophet will follow him. Yet, there arose several individuals who claimed prophethood in Islam. Among the first to claim Prophecy was Musailama al-Kazzab, followed by many others including Mirza Hussein Ali Nuri who took the name Bahaullah (glory of God) and formed a new religion, the Bahai faith. Many false prophets continued to raise their heads occasionally but failed to make much impact until the ascendance of the non-Muslim intellectual, economic and political forces particularly in the 19th century A.D.

The event was held at the Baitul Islam Mosque in Peace Village, Vaughan, with an audience of over 600 people, comprising government officials, including the Mayor of Vaughan, Hon. During his keynote address, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community was an entirely peaceful sect of Islam because it followed the true teachings of Islam. Hence it should not be considered to be a ‘liberal’ or ‘reformist’ group. Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said: “It is absolutely true that we, Ahmadi Muslims, are peace-loving and seek to build bridges of love and hope between different religions and different communities. However, this is not because we have deviated from Islam or ‘modernised’ it in any shape or form. Rather, it is because we follow Islam’s authentic teachings.” His Holiness referred to a saying of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), that Muslims should love for others what they love for themselves. His Holiness said this principle laid down the foundations for peace and it was incumbent on Muslims to reflect upon this. Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad said: “Do we have ambitions to be mired in poverty and to go to bed hungry every night? Do we want our children to be plagued by ill-health, to be uneducated and to be placed in danger? Of course, no normal person would ever hope for any of these things.
