The Rochester Sentinel 1989 Tuesday, January 3, 1989 Stephen E. Grimes Stephen E. GRIMES, 45, Rt 1, Twelve Mile, died at 1:45 a.m. Sunday at Woodlawn Hospital. He was born April 9, 1943 in Peru to Lewis and Anna DIXON GRIMES. On Dec. 17, 1977, he married Sharon K. WOLFE SCHAKEL, who survives. He was a truck driver, a member of the Logansport Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, and served in the U.S. Army in Germany. Surviving with the wife are a daughter, Stephanie [GRIMES], and a step-daughter, Virginia SCHAKEL, both at home; two step-sons, Keith and Edward SCHAKEL, Indianapolis; two brothers, Richard [GRIMES], Kokomo, and John [GRIMES], San Diego, Calif.; five sisters, Rosemary DAWALD, Fulton; Barbara YENTES, Peru; Virginia LONG, Banquo; Jean HERRING, Los Angeles, and Lovica GILBERT, Salt Lake City, Utah, and two step- grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Peru, with Bishop Kevin MOESSER officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Peru. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m today at the Flowers and Leedy Funeral Home, Peru. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Diabetes Association. Thelma Casey Thelma CASEY, 85, formerly of Argos, died at 2:05 a.m. today at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James (Betty Jean) SJOUIST, 10211 Pretty Lake Trail, Plymouth, where she had lived for two years. She was born Oct. 23, 1903 in Coal City, Ill., to Thomas and Maude MURRAY WHEELER. On July 15, 1922 in St. Joseph, Mich., she married Charles Eugene CASEY, who preceded in death. She was a member of the Argos United Methodist Church. Surviving with the daughter is a granddaughter, Venus Angelique SJOQUIST, Plymouth. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Lois Mae DANNER, in 1987, and by an infant sister. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Grossman Funeral Home, Argos, with the Rev. Jack RHOADES officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 10 a.m. Thursday. Memorials may be made to the Argos United Methodist Church. Conrad A. Singpiel Conrad A. SINGPIEL, 84, Rochester Nursing Home, formerly of the Argos and Akron areas, died at 2:30 a.m. Monday at Woodlawn Hospital. He was born Sept. 9, 1904 in Cloquet, Minn., to Conrad and Mary PESCHA SINGPIEL. He married Ardella FREAMOUW, who died in 1947 He married Hattie MILLER, Argos, who survives. He had managed the Akron milk plant, was a past member of the Modern Woodsman, and attended St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Plymouth. Surviving with the wife are two daughters, Connie RAMSEY, Akron, and Frankie Rose SPARKS, Michigan; a son, Stan [SINGPIEL], North Manchester; eighteen grandchidren, and eighteen great-grandchildre. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Lou SHELTON; two brothers; a sister, and two grandchidren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with the Rev. David BOORIS officiating. Burial will be in the Akron Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to charity. Wednesday, January 4, 1989 Richard R. Van Dalsen Richard R. Van DALSEN, 69, Punta Gorda, Fla., died Monday at Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center, Fort Myers, Fla. He was born Aug. 18, 1919 in Logansport to Russell and Della ABBOTT Van DALSEN. On March 10, 1945 in South Bend, he married Annabelle “Anne” ZOLMAN, who survives. He was a retired postal worker and lived most of his life in the Macy and Rochester areas. He was a member of the Macy Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star; the American Legion, Port Charlotte, Fla.; the Elks Lodge, Punta Gorda; AARP; the Order of Purple Heart; the Punta Gorda First United Methodist Church, and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a U.S. Army World War II combat veteran who served in the African and Italian campaigns, received two Purple Heart medals and a Bronze Star with clusters for valor. Surviving with the wife are two sons, Richard [Van DALSEN] II, Niles, Mich.; and Allan [Van DALSEN], Port Charlotte, Fla., and five grandchildren, Andrea, Ali, Angela, Jeff and Jacqui [Van DALSEN]. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael [Van DALSEN]. Services were to be today at 2 p.m. at Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, Punta Gorda. Burial was to be in Charlotte Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer, Heart or Lung associations. Thursday, January 5, 1989 Warren C. Myers Warren C. MYERS, 96, Rt. 1, Roann, died at 7:35 p.m. Wednesday at Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Home, Peru. He was born Aug. 25, 1892 in Cass County to George and Eva GALLAHAN MYERS. His first marriage was to Emily ASHTON, who preceded in death. On Jan. 28, 1958 he married Helen MILLER HARDING, who survives. He was a retired piano technician, attended piano tuning school at Valparaiso, and was a World War I U.S. Army veteran. He and his wife started the first two coin-operated laundries in Fort Wayne. Surviving with the wife are a daughter, Emily KETHLEY, Charlottsville, Va.; a step-son, Richard HARDING, Roann; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; twelve step-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. A son, three brothers and two sisters preceded in death. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, Peru, with the Rev. Robert LOUGHEED officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico. Friends may call Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, January 6, 1989 Russell R. Gaby Russell Robert GABY, 65, Rt. 1, Monticello, died unexpectedly at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born Dec. 3, 1923 in White County to Cecil A. and Bertha E. CROUCHER GABY. On April 15, 1944 in Idaville, he married Audrey F. WEAVER, who died Oct. 19, 1987. He moved to the Buffalo area in 1974 from Logansport. In 1983 he retired after 20 years with Kain Motor Service, Logansport. He was a World War II Army veteran and had been a prisoner of war in the Rhineland, Germany. He was a member of the Idaville Church of God; Teamsters Local 543, Kokomo; Tipton FOP, American Legion, VFW and Masonic Lodge, Logansport; the DAV and Moose Lodge, Monticello. Surviving are four sons, Gerry R. [GABY], Tramil, Va., Howard Daniel [GABY], Akron; David M. and Kenneth D. [GABY], both of Logansport; eleven grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Cecil A. GABY, Logansport, and Wayne GABY, Conroe, Texas; five sisters, Pauline BUTCH and Jane SMITH, Logansport; Jean FRYE, Kewanna; Maxine WEAVER, Idaville, and Ruth Ann DOLT, Zionsville. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Miller-Voorhis Funeral Home, Monticello, with the Rev. Alvin ROCKEY officiating. Burial with military rites wil be in the Idaville Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to the St. Elizabeth Hospital Leukemia Foundation, Lafayette. Gerald Shoemaker Gerald “Jerry” SHOEMAKER, 48, Vancouver, Wash., formerly of Leesburg, died Thursday morning at his residence. Arrangements are pending at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron. Forest W. Sutton Forest W. SUTTON, 81, Rt. 5, Rochester (Tiosa), died at 5:15 a.m. today at the Rochester Nursing Home. He was born Oct. 17, 1907 in Charlevoix, Mich., to William L. and Margaret A. LOUDERMILK SUTTON. He moved to this community in 1932 from Starke County. On June 23, 1934 in Plymouth, he married Ota C. SUSDORF, who died April 30, 1984. He owned and operated a repair shop in Tiosa for 35 years, retiring in 1975. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Melville (Grace) COPLEN, Warsaw; a son, John F. [SUTTON], Rochester; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchidren. Five sisters and four brothers preceded in death. Services wil be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Foster & Good funeral Home, Rochester Burial wil be in the Burr Oak Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, and on Sunday for an hour before services. Loren E. Conner Loren E. CONNER, 83, Macy, died at 4:55 a.m. today at the Rochester Nursing Home. He was born Nov. 6, 1905 in Miami County to Elmer and Lorna GOUGE CONNER. On Dec. 31, 1925 at the home of he late Rev. C.F. GOLDEN, Chili, he married Beulah Fay RABER. She died Aug. 25, 1985. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the Macy Christian Church. Surviving are two sons, Ronald D. [CONNER], Macy, and Byron L. [CONNER], Muncie; a daughter, Mary Lou BUTT, Macy; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren, and a brother, Wayne CONNER, Orlando, Fla. He was preceded in death by a daugher, Carolyn Sue CONNER; a granddaugher, Barbara Jean BUTT; a great-grandson, Zachary CONNER, and a brother, Harold [CONNER]. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the McCain Funeral Home, Denver, with the Rev. David WELSH officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemeery, Mexico.
