come with different memory options (such as 16, 32, 64 or 128 GB). Unlike PC computers you cannot add memory later. If you plan to download movies, for example, you will need more storage. You can choose between Wi-Fi and Cellular plans. With Wi-Fi you must be near a hotspot to have an Internet connection. Cellular plans are similar to mobile phones and involve additional charges. Both the iPad Mini 3 and the iPad Air 2 come with “finger print identity sensor”. 1 Adapted from page 4 of My iPad by Gary Rosenzweig, 6th edition 2014 2 Siri is a voice –activated assistant. See page 10 for more information. 3 AirDrop is needed for printing. iPads use wireless printing. If your printer supports AirPrint a option to print will be available. Page 3 of 19 iPad Basics iOS As of 12/16/14 iOS 8.1.2 is the latest Apple operating system software that runs iPads, iPhones and iPods. It holds a maximum of 6 Apps. The initial Apps on the Dock are Messages, Mail, Safari and Music. Right above the Dock are a row of small dots. These indicate the number of screens on your iPad. Swipe right or left to access other screens. If you have not downloaded additional Apps you may only have one screen of Apps. Home Button Home (circled in red above) has many functions shown below: Press once to wake up the iPad Press once to return to the Home screen from any App Tap twice to access multitasking (the App switching screen) Tap and hold to access Siri To power your iPad on or off press and hold the Sleep/Wake Button (circled in red above) then slide your finger. This is similar to rebooting your computer. Whenever you are having problems, try this. By default the Side Switch (circled in red above) mutes the iPad. In Settings the same Side Switch can be changed to lock the screen orientation (portrait vs. landscape). To do this tap the Settings App; tap General then Lock Rotation. Use the Side Switch to prevent the iPad from changing orientations. Think of it as a mini software program. The iPad comes with several built-in apps (already preloaded) such as Calendar, Camera, Contacts, Clock, etc. You can also download apps from the Apps store. There are MANY to choose from, some free and others for purchase, usually at a minimal price. Most Apps have a similar format which lessens the learning curve. Most Apps do not interact with each other; therefore there is less possibility
