Extinction isn’t always a bad thing... Reviews for Ancestor “The future of gene manipulation is already here, and this ancestor may well be one of its outcomes. Be very, very afraid … or be extinct.” ~A.M. Stickel, BLACK PETALS MAGAZIN E “Sigler hits the rewind on evolution — and the fast-forward on action! Sigler’s beasties get their chomp on early and don’t let go: you can just feel the little Ancestors wriggling in the shadows of today’s biotech news stories, waiting to sink their primordial incisors deep into your spine.” ~Mark Jeffrey, author of THE POCKET & THE PENDANT “We’ve been told time and time again that it’s bad to play God. If Frankenstein and The Island of Dr. Moreau isn’t enough to convince you, then read Scott Sigler’s ANCESTOR. This is Robin Cook rewriting ALIENS. Strap yourself in for this intense warning of what genetic science can unleash. Prepare yourself for the ancestors.” ~Tee Morris, author of THE MOREVI SAGA “Scott Sigler writes like Michael Crichton in his prime, but edgier. Intensely addictive, ANCESTOR infects the imagination and races forward through a tail of genetic manipu- lation gone awry. As our primitive and savage ancestors are reborn, the body count rises and the pages keep turning. Intelligent, witty and scary as hell!” ~Jeremy Robinson, bestselling author of RAISING THE PAST “From ultra high-tech labs of bleeding edge biotech to snow-blinded islands haunted by our own genetic past, Scott Sigler takes you for a page-turning ride into real fear and adventure. -

Cinema Invisibile 2014-The Killing-Flyer
cinema LUX cinema invisibile febbraio > maggio 2014 martedì ore 21.00 giovedì ore 18.30 The Killing - Linden, Holder e il caso Larsen The Killing serie tv - USA stagione 1 (2011) + stagione 2 (2012) 13 episodi + 13 episodi Seattle. -

Liturgy of the Eucharist
1 Our Lady of Perpetual Help (June 18th, 2018) Part II: Liturgy of the Eucharist and Concluding Rite Introduction: Below you will find a detailed explanation of Part II: Liturgy of the Eucharist and Concluding Rite of the Mass, to assist you in learning more about the Mass and the changes that have occurred with the implementation of the third edition of the Roman Missal since Advent of 2011. This explanation was written by Fr. Victor De Gagné, The Prayer Intentions concludes the Liturgy of the Word and the focus of the Mass now shifts to the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Liturgy of the Eucharist: -The Collection & the Offering of the Gifts The collection and the offering of the bread and wine have been present in Christian worship since the very beginning. The gifts of the community are presented to the priest for the needs of the Church and of the poor. Justin the Martyr describes this collection and offering of gifts in his letter dating from the 2nd century: “Then someone brings bread and wine to him who presides over the assembly. They who have the means, give freely what they wish; and what is collected is placed in reserve with the presider, who provides help to the orphans, widows, and those who, through sickness or any other cause, are in need, and prisoners, and traveling strangers; in a word, he takes care of all who are in need.” By the collection, we exercise Christian charity; sharing our blessings with those who have nothing. -The Preparation of the Gifts Once the gifts of bread and wine have been carried to the altar, the priest offers a prayer of blessing to God for his generosity, for the produce of the earth and for human labour which have created the gifts to be used for the Eucharist. -

Gambling in the Mid-Nineteenth-Century Latin American Social Imaginary

Chapel Hill 2016 Approved by: Rosa Perelmuter Juan Carlos González Espitia Emilio del Valle Escalante Irene Gómez Castellano John Charles Chasteen © 2016 Emily Joy Clark ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ii ABSTRACT Emily Joy Clark: Gambling in the Mid-Nineteenth-Century Latin American Social Imaginary (Under the direction of Rosa Perelmuter) Economic themes appear in many nineteenth-century Latin American narratives, but the representation of gambling and other forms of speculative capitalist commerce, such as investment, trade, and mining, is a largely unexplored area of critical literary analysis. This dissertation examines the depiction of gambling and other games of chance, as well as financially-speculative endeavors, in eight texts from the mid-nineteenth century throughout Hispanic America, including José Joaquín Fernández de Lizardi’s El Periquillo Sarniento (1816), Eduardo Gutiérrez’s Juan Moreira (1879), Rosario Orrego’s Alberto el jugador (1860), Teresa González de Fanning’s Regina (1886), Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda’s Sab (1841), Alberto Blest Gana’s Martín Rivas (1862), José Ramón de Betancourt’s Una feria de la caridad en 183… (1841, 1858), and José Milla’s Los Nazarenos (1867). In the four chapters of the dissertation, I analyze four different perspectives on gambling and its repercussions in society as it applies to gender (Chapters 1 and 2), social class (Chapter 3), and the role of the citizen in post-independence Latin American nation states (Chapter 4). -
