Michael Menachem Laskier is full professor emeritus of modern history at the Department of Middle Eastern Studies, Bar-Ilan University, and the former director of the University's Center for the Study of Resistance Movements named after former Prime Minister Menachem Begin. He completed his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees with distinction at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He organized international scholarly conferences and served as president of the Middle East and Islamic Studies Association of Israel between 2011 and 2013. Between October 2012 and September 2017 he served as the academic head of the Kinneret Academic College on the Sea of Galilee which then operated under the auspices of Bar-Ilan University.

Since March 2018, he teaches Middle Eastern history in the interdisciplinary department within The Academic College of Western Galilee where he is also a member of the faculty promotion committee.

Areas of research and teaching focus on Israel's relations with the Arab and Mediterranean worlds; Inter-Arab politics; Muslim-Jewish Relations; Islamic radicalism; the Jews in the Mediterranean Basin & and the Jewish community of France; and .

I have written 194 articles and chapters (most of them peer-reviewed) and 17 books. These include Egyptian Jewry in the realm of Islam: From the Seventh Century to the Present (completed in 2018, to be published, in French, by the prestigious Parisian press Albin Michel in 2020 or 2021; the first volume of As the Earth Trembled: The Yom Kippur War and Israeli Society (completed in January 2019, accepted for publication at Bar-Ilan University Press), is undergoing professional editing by the Press' staff; the second volume, As the Earth Trembled: Israel, the Arab World, and the Major Powers before the Yom Kippur War, in its Midst, and the Aftermath (this volume will be completed in April 2020 and submitted to Bar-Ilan University Press). The two volumes are co-edited and co-written by myself and Ze'ev Drory.

In September 2019 my article, "Prelude to Colonialism: Moroccan Muslims and Jews through Western Lenses, 1860-1912," was published in European Judaism, Volume 52, No. 2 (Autumn 2019): 110-128; my review of a major book North Africa and the Making of Europe, by Muriam Haleh Davis & Thomas Serres is "in press" to be published in December 2019 by the American Historical Review, which ranks internationally among the top 4 history journals.

I am currently involved in preparing two major book manuscripts: French Jewry, 1945-2015; as well as Israel and the Mediterranean: Five Decades of Uneasy Coexistence, 1948-1998 (this second manuscript together with Ronen Yitzhak).
