History of the Dutch Europe Class Union S APRIL 2003 / 1 NEINTERNATIONALWS EUROPE CLASS UNION From the President Dear Sailors, In November the ISAF Conference took place in Cyprus. Niki, Frans and I had a very busy week. Paul was in the last moment prevented to join us. He had to help Helen giving birth to a new europesailor: Eric. One conclusion from the conference is that in the future the system for entry for the Worlds will be different. To be an Olympic Class is something very special. It is very important to realize that we not just can do what we want, we are not autonomous, but a little part in the Olympic Games. I know for sure that our President Mr Paul Henderson has done absolutely what is possible to do, to get the best Photo by Tony Walsh conditions for sailing at the Olympics. But even if he was told by IOC what to do and how many classes IOC will accept, Paul Henderson is still fighting so we can still hope for no changes in number of classes and sailors. Person- ally I think the changes about entry for the Worlds are very good for the Class, and not at all bad. I think that it is important that we are moving all the time trying to make better. At the AGM this summer we'll have to decide how we will organize the coming Worlds that are not Olympic Qualifier. The AGM is the right place to hear your voice. Best regards. Jan Abrahamsen, IECU President APRIL 2003 INTERNATIONAL EUROPE CLASS UNION 1 — www.europeclass.org — Technical Corner GRANDFATHERING At the Annual General Meeting of ISAF The dates on which the amendments and changes regarding different items become our Class Rules were subject to discussion, mandatory/obligatory were spread over Class Rules and Measurement Forms. however, only small corrections were made. • International Europe Class Union
APRIL 2004 / 1 NEWSINTERNATIONAL EUROPE CLASS UNION LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Sailors and Friends ! This year is a very special one. It is the year the Olympics take place. Our wonderfull class can be divided in many ways. One way is who is carrying out an Olympic campaign, who is not. I will guess that about 50 sailors are involved in an Olympic campaign, and they will get a lot of attention this year. The 50 of you I will warn about the coming pressure. Everyone will press you. The NA’s, the coaches, the press, yourself, also. Please do not forget: it is wonderfull to sail and specially to compete with friends. Winning is good, but not everything. I will remember everyone, that the Olympic qualifier this year is the regatta in Hyères. I will also remember you that if your nation now or after the Hyères regatta is not qualified Olympics, there is still a possibility to go. There might be nations that qualify, that will not send their sailors, and then the one who is outside, suddenly is inside. There will really be something to race for, even for the lower positions, in Hyères. If your nation is qualified, but your nation cannot send you, I will be very happy to hear from you immediately (e-mail: [email protected] ). I know a lot of you have been preparing in Miami, Cádiz and Mallorca this winter, and are really well prepared. I am looking foreward to meet all of you, see how good you are, and also meet a lot of new faces.
