4 theCampus.

When you consider everything contained on Marshall’s campus, it’s hard to believe it all fits in a space of 16 square blocks. From the 123,000 square feet of fitness and fun in the Recreation Center, to the state-of-the-art research facilities in the Robert C. Byrd Biotechnology Science Center, Marshall offers a world of opportunity in a close- knit community.

The compact nature of our campus is just one aspect of its accessibility. Despite our proximity to the beautiful West Virginia hills, our campus is relatively flat. Also, more than half of our grounds are closed to vehicle traffic, yet commuter students can find parking nearby (with a university-issued permit). The Memorial Student Center, located near the heart of campus, is full of conveniences including our new Student Resource Center and the largest Starbucks in the state!

Not only is our campus easy to navigate, it’s also incredibly safe. Our 22 university police officers patrol on foot, bike, Gator and cruiser, and all residence halls have 24-hour front desk security. An emergency text message system alerts students to emergencies, including closings for inclement weather, and our Safety Escort service ensures that you never have to walk alone after dark. Come discover why Marshall’s campus is such an inviting place to live and learn!

14 ot everything you learn in college Nwill come from a classroom. There’s much to discover about life and yourself that can happen in a million moments when you least expect it. You can get a degree without taking full advantage of all the experiences our campus has to offer, but why would you want to?

Life on Campus Studies have shown that students who live on campus get higher grades and are more likely to graduate on time. Those are great reasons to live in one of our 10 residence halls, but there are other great reasons to stay on campus as well. Let’s start with convenience: When you live on campus, you’re never more than a ten-minute walk from any other point on campus, so you can sleep later and you don’t have to look for a parking space before class.

Our residence halls don’t just provide you with a place to study and sleep. They also give you the chance to meet new people and build new relationships. Our Living Learning Communities allow you to live with and near people who are in majors similar to yours, making it easy to form study groups and find support when your classes get tough. Our residence life staff members also coordinate educational and recreational programming for our students; from movie night to presentations by local and state leaders, there’s always something to do in the halls.

Student Activities Whether you want to build your resume by participating in a pre-professional society or are looking for fun in the great outdoors, Marshall’s nearly 200 student organizations have something for you! Learn about other cultures and religions, perform community service, join a fraternity or sorority, or start a club of your own. With ten interested students and a faculty advisor, you can start the next great student organization at Marshall. Learn more about the wide-array of student groups at www.marshall.edu/student-activities/MUStudentOrganizations.pdf.

15 t most schools, athletics are a source of fun and pride, a way to make memories of sun-drenched tailgates and heart-stopping buzzer beaters. AThat’s true at Marshall as well, but once a year, the Marshall family stops to remember a moment when sports became something more. The story of Marshall’s rise from the ashes, the spirit of the Young Thundering Herd-- they are more than the stuff of Hollywood. They are the inspiration for every team that dons the green and white. For, We are…Marshall.
