Understanding Image Formats And When to Use Them Are you familiar with the extensions after your images? There are so many image formats that it’s so easy to get confused! File extensions like .jpeg, .bmp, .gif, and more can be seen after an image’s file name. Most of us disregard it, thinking there is no significance regarding these image formats. These are all different and not cross‐ compatible. These image formats have their own pros and cons. They were created for specific, yet different purposes. What’s the difference, and when is each format appropriate to use? Every graphic you see online is an image file. Most everything you see printed on paper, plastic or a t‐shirt came from an image file. These files come in a variety of formats, and each is optimized for a specific use. Using the right type for the right job means your design will come out picture perfect and just how you intended. The wrong format could mean a bad print or a poor web image, a giant download or a missing graphic in an email Most image files fit into one of two general categories—raster files and vector files—and each category has its own specific uses. This breakdown isn’t perfect. For example, certain formats can actually contain elements of both types. But this is a good place to start when thinking about which format to use for your projects. However, due to the lack of formal training, researchers are typically unaware of the benefits of outreach training and often under-prioritize outreach. We present a training programme conducted with an international network of PhD students in quantum physics, which focused on developing outreach skills and an understanding of the associated professional benefits by creating an outreach portfolio consisting of a range of implementable outreach products. We describe our approach, assess the impact, and provide guidelines for designing similar programmes across scientific disciplines in the future. Customizing Microsoft Clipart LBT140 with PowerPoint versions 2002 & 2003 As discussed in the lecture notes for this week’s module, appropriate imagery can have a significant, positive impact on a learner’s cognitive load as new information is being presented in a multimedia context. While using the Microsoft Office applications to create educational materials, we can easily find a vast assortment of clipart components ready to be integrated into any presentational format. Unfortunately, just as digital cable can offer its subscribers over 400 channels and still fail to air anything “worthy” of watching, Microsoft clipart can often miss the mark, if only by just a little bit. This leaves us with two options: 1. create our own clipart 2. customize what has already been created for us. This week we will choose option 2 and leave the custom creation of graphics for the next module. While the customization of clipart can be accomplished in Microsoft Word, Publisher or even Excel, we will be using PowerPoint to accomplish this task as it provides a little more freedom to move things around the way we will want them. Once you have started the PowerPoint application, you will need clear the default text boxes that appear on the initial slide. Open the Edit menu and choose Select All. This will select the current slide’s title and subtitle text boxes. Next press the Delete key on your keyboard. Now we will need some clipart on which to practice the customization process. From within the Insert menu select Picture and then select Clip Art from the secondary menu. -

The rich HCI literature on bimanual tools is leveraged to design tools that support the embodied nature of creativity. The various definitions of creativity in HCI and psychology are explored, with new perspectives on embodied creativity introduced from neuroscience. In the first study, user experiences of the creative process are collected, and generate three themes and five sub-themes with implications for design. From these user stories and theory, a research through design approach is taken to generate artifacts to explore these themes. -

We adapted the review method from the PRISMA-ScR protocol. Pubmed, Embase, Web of Science, and Scopus were searched until June 2020 with the following keywords: Vector Graphics Editor, Vector Graphics Editor Dentistry, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Illustrator Dentistry, Coreldraw, Coreldraw Dentistry, Inkscape, Inkscape Dentistry. The publications found described the functions of the following VGEs: Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, and Inkscape. svg2key Manual A Guide for Creating Shapes in Keynote I. About svg2key is a simple command-line utility that extracts shapes from scalable vector graphic (SVG) files and imports them into Keynote, Apple’s new presentation program. By importing SVG shapes you can extend Keynote palette of shapes and use programs such as Illustrator, Omni Graffle and Inkscape as drawing tools for Keynote. II. System Requirements Mac OS X 10.3 or later Keynote 1 or later SVG editor (i.e. Inkscape, Illustrator, Omni Graffle, etc...) III. Installation Double-click the svg2key-0.2.dmg file to mount the disk image. Then drag the files over to your home folder. Launch the Terminal.app (in /Applications/Utilities) and type: chmod a+x svg2key Convert one of the sample SVG files to make sure everything works by typing: svg2key SVG_Examples/testfile.svg There will be a slight pause followed by: “Keynote file saved as Untitled.key”. To view the resulting file type: open Untitled.key IV. Usage svg2key [-f] [-o outputfile.key] file1.svg file2.svg ... Optional Flags: -o specify a output file name. The default file name is Untitled.key -f force svg2key to save Keynote file regardless of whether the file exists. -h display help and exit Examples: • Specify an output file using the -o flag svg2key -o outputfile.key file.svg if the file “output.key” exists you will be prompted for a new file name. To override the interaction mode you can use the -f flag like so: svg2key -f -o outputfile.key file.svg • Convert multiple svg files at once: svg2key file1.svg file2.svg file3.svg Here a separate slide will be created for each svg file.
