We are committed to providing superior technical solutions for the deployed warfighter as well as supporting their families when they need it the most. www.qed-sys.com 4 ABOUT THE FISHER HOUSE FOUNDATION

Fisher House Foundation is best known for a network of comfort homes where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving critical care and for 25 years has supported the total military family.

There are 65 homes located at major military and VA medical centers nation- wide, close to the medical center or hospital they serve. Fisher Houses have up to 21 suites, with private bedrooms and baths. Families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, a warm dining room and an inviting living room. Fish- er House Foundation ensures that there is never a lodging fee. Since inception, the program has saved military and veterans’ families an estimated $282 million in out of pocket costs for lodging and transportation. Over 25,000 families stayed at a Fisher House last year, and that number continues to grow each year as Fisher House Foundation builds new houses at VA and military medical centers with the greatest need.

Fisher House Foundation also operates the Hero Miles program, using donated frequent flyer miles to bring family members to the bedside of injured service members, as well as the Hotels for Heroes program using donated hotel points to allow family members to stay at hotels near medical centers without charge. The Foundation also manages a grant program that supports other military charities and scholarship funds for military children, spouses and children of fallen and disabled veterans.

Welcome to the 11th Annual Support Our Heroes Gala!

On behalf of Chesapeake Support Our Heroes, Welcome! And thank you for joining us this evening. Our mission is simple: demonstrate our commitment and provide care to our wounded service members and their families by rais- ing funds to support the Fisher House Foundation.

Tonight’s gala is our eleventh annual fundraiser and our theme is “A Night on the Orient Express.” We are taking this opportunity to highlight the mysteries of the Orient Express and some of the regional cuisine.

We have a fun-filled night in store for you! Have your Train Ticket stamped at each of our stations while enjoying food and drinks typical of those areas. Enjoy the visual displays for each region and later in the evening take the opportunity to participate in tonight’s traditional and silent auctions, enjoy the entertainment and take time to listen to the program.

Any of our committee members will be happy to talk to you about supporting our fundraising efforts for the Fisher House Foundation. There are so many ways to assist -- whether it is a bake sale, a 5K run or a concert in the park.

Thanks again to each and every one of you for joining us tonight and many thanks for supporting our nation’s wounded heroes and their families. I es- pecially want to thank our corporate, military and government supporters as well as our very special volunteers. The effort they put into making this event a success is truly “from the heart.” So to them I extend our most heartfelt thanks.

Enjoy this evening’s festivities!

Fisher House Foundation, which provides comfort homes for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers, is celebrating and commemorating 25 years of service to our military, Veterans and their families. The year-long commemoration will culminate in a Celebra- tory Gala in Washington, DC, Sept. 16, where Fisher House families, staff, and donors will be recognized and thanked.

“In 1990, the idea of giving military families a ‘home away from home,’ while their loved ones received medical care was only a dream,” said Ken Fisher, Chairman and CEO of Fisher House Foundation. “But my Uncle Zachary and Aunt Elizabeth Fisher saw a need, had a desire and made the vision come true.”

Today, there are 65 Fisher Houses across the country, in Germany and the United Kingdom. More than 250,000 families have been provided 5.8 million nights of lodging, saving them more than $282 million since the program began in 1990.

Additionally, Fisher House Foundation’s Hero Miles program has provided more than 58,000 airline tickets that allow families to help heal together. $15 million in scholarships have been given to military and Veteran family members and the Foundation has sponsored national and international wounded warrior athletic competitions to celebrate the return to health of disabled military and Veterans. 9

“The Fisher House program history is dedicated to those we are privileged to serve – our nation’s military, Veterans and their families. Our service to them is a credit on a ledger we can never balance. We owe them literally more than we can ever repay,” said Fisher. “But try we do. I remain humbled and awed every day by the generosity of those who have supported the Foundation. Because of their generosity, our military, Veterans and their families know the nation is there for them.

“If my Uncle Zach were here today,” Fisher continued, “he would urge us not to reflect too long on the accomplishments of the last 25 years, because our mission is far from over. We will be there for decades to come, hopefully with continued support from our partners and the American people.”

Fisher House Foundation is proud to partner with an illustrious group of indi- viduals, organizations and corporations in its 25th Anniversary year.

This small table … … honors the many members of our armed forces – our heroes -- who answered the call of duty but were unable to return home. It is deliberately placed before our nation’s colors as a special place of honor. … symbolizes the presence of their loving spirit; they will never be forgotten. … is set and reserved for one to honor each of our missing and fallen loved ones. … is round to represent the everlasting concern for those missing and fallen comrades. The white tablecloth … symbolizes the purity of our heroes’ intention to respond to their country’s call to arms. The single red rose … reminds us of the life and love of each hero and the sacrifices that they made for this country. The yellow ribbon ... tied so prominently on the vase, symbolizes remembrance for the families and loved ones who keep the memories of our brothers and sisters alive. 13

The solitary candle … stands proud, straight, and tall … just like our comrades and symbolizes the ultimate sacrifice that our fallen comrades and their fami- lies have made to preserve our precious freedom. The slice of lemon on the plate … reminds us of their bitter fate. The salt upon the table … symbolizes the tears shed by families as they have endured the sorrow of their loved ones’ fate. The inverted glass … symbolizes that our heroes are with us in spirit but cannot raise a glass to toast with us tonight. The chair … leans forward against the table and represents a reserved space for each of our heroes. Please take a moment this evening to remember these brave men and women who have made “the ultimate sacrifice.” We also ask that you keep their families and loved ones in mind tonight as we continue our cause to support the Fisher House Foundation’s mission to pro- vide a “home away from home” for military families so that they can be near their loved ones during hospitalizations for illness, disease, or injury. Thank you for your support! Sincerely, The Board Members of Chesapeake Support Our Heroes The Committee for the 2015 Support our Heroes Gala 14 ENTERTAINMENT
