GARDENER’S DELIGHT SNOWDROPS & THE RHS EARLY SPRING PLANT FAIR Staying at Waltham Abbey Marriott Hotel

New for this year is our early spring jaunt south, taking us to the first RHS show of the year, the RHS Early Spring Plant Fair at RHS Lawrence Hall, Westminster. This early season event is a great way to kick-start your gardening year and will help you welcome in the new growing season, and will offer a wealth of inspiration to help you get your horticultural creativity started. Amongst a number of features at the fair, you will find advice from a variety of experts, colourful early-season plants from some of the UK’s best nurseries and growers, as well as an abundance of bulbs and plants to buy. To compliment our horticultural weekend we visit Myddelton House Gardens, once owned by Edward Augustus Bowles, one of Britain’s most famous self-taught gardener, artist and expert botanist. Myddleton House boasts beautiful eight acre garden that at this time of year comes to life with an abundance of snowdrops, all there to give us the joyful news, Spring is on its way!

Our base for the short break is the Marriott Hotel at Waltham Abbey which is situated on the edge of the ancient woodlands of Epping Forest. This modern hotel offers an indoor pool - a great spot to take a dip! The Thyme restaurant serves international cuisine, and there is also the Tempo bar/lounge area to enjoy. The spacious and elegant guest rooms boast air-conditioning, internet access, satellite TV and refreshments tray. The hotel has no lift but does have ground floor bedrooms.

Mon: We depart the Macclesfield area calling for coffee and lunch en-route to Myddleton House. We meet our guide for an hour long tour of the garden with its abundance of snowdrops, we then have free time to stroll at leisure and perhaps spend time in the visitor centre to find out more about Edward Augustus Bowles. Late afternoon we take the short journey to our hotel. Dinner and evening at leisure.

Tue: After a hearty breakfast we venture to the City of Westminster and to RHS Lawrence Hall for the Early Spring Plant Fair. There will be lots of advice and help on offer. There is a café in the Hall for morning coffee and light lunches. Early afternoon we join the motorway network and head for home. We make a comfort stop en-route and aim to arrive in the Macclesfield area mid-evening.

WARNER SPECIAL BEAUTIFUL BERKSHIRE - LITTLECOTE HOUSE Staying at Littlecote House, Warner Leisure, , Berkshire

This year our springtime Warner break is based at Littlecote House, a beautiful Grade One listed Tudor House, set in the heart of the Berkshire countryside and just ten minutes from the picturesque village of Hungerford. Littlecote House is steeped in history from the Roman Mosaic in the grounds to the rooms used for planning the D-Day Landings. Littlecote Houses offers a wide range of activities and leisure pursuits; both indoor and outdoor bowls, an indoor leisure complex with pool, sauna and steam room. As with all Warners there is great entertainment, with live music and dancing. All bedrooms offer modern up-to-date en-suite facilities with LCD TV, courtesy tea trays, hairdryer and complimentary toiletries. Mon: We depart Macclesfield in the morning and make a morning coffee stop en route to Banbury where we break for lunch. Banbury is a lovely market town on the River Cherwell, with a variety of eateries and places of interest. After our lunch stop we continue through Oxfordshire and Berkshire to Littlecote House Hotel and our base for the next four nights. Tue: Today we have a full day on the Midsomer Murders trail. We will see some of the locations used for the hit TV show set in the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside. We make a couple of stops en route for morning coffee and lunch. Even if you are not an avid fan, the scenery is lovely. We aim to arrive back at the hotel in the afternoon giving you time for a swim before dinner. Wed: This morning after a hearty breakfast we head to Marlborough on market day. The High Street hosts a market selling a wide variety of wares from local produce to local crafts. The town has a rich history most notably the 17th Century Merchants House on the high street. There is also a wide range of shops with a large number of the big name chains and smaller individual shops. After lunch we make our way to Avebury and the prehistoric Stone Circle (NT Members free, non members £3.95 approx) which partially encompasses the pretty village. We have time to explore the Neolithic landscape, the museum, the Manor House and time for afternoon tea in the café before we head back to Littlecote. Thur: After a relaxing start to the morning we head to Caversham set on the banks of the River Thames. We have time for morning coffee and to stroll through the park. We then continue on to Henley-On-Thames, famed for the Royal Regatta held every year. We have time in this pretty town to visit the River and Rowing Museum dedicated to the history of the town and the Wind in the Willows exhibition (£6 concession approx.). Fri: Today we have to leave the beautiful Berkshire countryside and head for home. We make Stratford-Upon- Avon our lunch stop. Once the home to Shakespeare, Stratford offers a wide variety of shopping, cultural and eating experiences. We depart Stratford in the afternoon making a comfort stop en-route. We aim to arrive back in to Macclesfield early evening.

EASTER TIME IN HISTORIC GREENWICH & KEW GARDENS Staying at the 4* De Vere Devonport House Hotel, Greenwich

Back by great demand, our tour to Greenwich. This year we have given you more free time to visit the many places of interest this maritime town on the Thames offers. Greenwich boasts a wealth of history, a theatre, market, park with 180 acres of flower gardens, Royal Observatory, the famous Cutty Sark, National Maritime Museum, Royal Naval College and the Fan Museum, said to be the world’s only museum devoted entirely to fans!

Our base for the tour is the 4* De Vere Devonport House Hotel. Steeped in naval history, this remarkably beautiful building is situated on the prestigious World Heritage site at Greenwich, ‘moored’ alongside the University of Greenwich and the National Maritime Museum. Devonport House is impeccable in its regimented grandeur and offers relaxing bars and tempting restaurants. All bedrooms are en-suite with all the modern facilities you would expect from a 4* hotel.

Fri: We depart Macclesfield early in the morning calling for coffee and lunch en-route to Greenwich, where we meet our guide for an informative walking tour. The tour culminates at our hotel where we have ample time to unpack and relax with an aperitif before dinner.

Sat: A free day in Greenwich giving you time to visit one or two of the many museums. Why not include a trip across the Thames on the Emirates Air Line? The capital’s first cable car taking you from the Greenwich Peninsular to Royal Victoria Dock.

Sun: A morning at leisure. Around lunchtime we venture into London and to Covent Garden. You will have free time to browse the shops, sit outside one of the pavement cafes and soak up the atmosphere, or perhaps take a stroll to St Paul’s Cathedral. Why not complete the day with Afternoon Tea at The Waldorf Hotel, in Covent Garden? We return to the hotel late afternoon.

Mon: After a leisurely breakfast we head off to Kew Gardens where we spend the day exploring the world’s most famous botanic garden. This afternoon we have a trip to the pretty town of Marazion with the opportunity to explore the amazing island world of St Michael’s Mount, where modern life meets layers of history. Sat: This morning we venture to see our friends at Poppy Cottage Garden, there will be time for morning coffee and homemade cake and a wander around the garden. Chichester, once a Roman city, has been preserved from the ravages of modern development, especially with its Georgian houses and cathedral. The town itself is sited on an inlet from the harbour and is linked to the town by a four mile canal. Chichester is the ideal spot for touring the scenic West Sussex countryside and rolling South Downs.

Thu: Today we take the short journey in to Chichester where you have free time in the City to browse the many shops or perhaps take a boat trip around the harbour. After lunch we visit the magnificent Cathedral Flower Festival for a spectacular floral event of over 80 arrangements; the theme this year is ‘The Artist’s Palette’. KING RICHARD III & THE BATTLE OF BOSWORTH Staying at Marriot Leicester

A new tour for us this year, we travel to the battlefield at Bosworth and to Leicester for the discovery of King Richard III. This interesting tour visits the site of the Battle of Bosworth, a major turning point in English history. The heritage centre tells the story of the great battle over the English Crown between Richard III and Henry Tudor. We also visit Leicester Cathedral where King Richard was re-interned after his discovery in a car park in Leicester. We also visit the King Richard III Visitors’ Centre which uses great story telling, beautiful design and 21st century technology to tell the fascinating and moving story of the King’s life and death, and reveals one of the greatest archaeological detective stories ever told.

The Leicester Marriot hotel is situated in a great location for this tour as it gives easy access to the centre of Leicester and to the Bosworth Battlefield. Mon: Today we continue the Richard III story. After a leisurely breakfast, we depart the hotel and make the short journey to the centre of Leicester. This year we have a new island hopping holiday which includes two intriguing but very different islands. The Isle of Arran, often referred to as ‘Scotland in Miniature’ and Gigha, reported to be the smallest and most beautiful of the Hebridean Islands. This is a two centred holiday combining the unique island lifestyles together with the beautiful gardens and magical landscapes that make Argyll so picturesque. Our first hotel is The Kinloch Hotel on the Isle of Arran, a family owned hotel offering coastal comfort and spectacular scenery. Wed: We leave Arran today, taking the short ferry crossing over to the Mull of Kintyre, and onto the breathtaking Isle of Gigha, with its sandy beaches, clear green seas and host of wildlife. We head straight to Achamore Gardens where we have a meet and greet from the head gardener. The gardens extend to 50 acres with natural woodland, a large walled garden and pond area with many rare and interesting plants and trees. Afterwards a soup and sandwich lunch is laid on at the Gigha Hotel before visiting the vantage points on the island. On leaving the island we head north along the coast to Inveraray and The Loch Fyne Hotel our base for the next three nights. Thu: Today we have a day at leisure in Inveraray. There are many things to see and do, from browsing the curiosity shops to visiting Inveraray Jail. The main attraction is the Duke of Argyll’s residence – Inveraray Castle and Gardens. The castle is adjacent to the hotel. This particular castle is one of the most famous of Scottish castles, and featured in the popular TV series Downton Abbey. Fri: Another fabulous day awaits! Firstly, we travel to Oban passing Kilchurn Castle, Loch Awe and the Pass of Brander. You will have free time in the popular seaside resort of Oban. Afterwards we take the coastal road south with many island views coming in to play, including Arduaine Gardens, a wonderful coastal garden, influenced by the North Atlantic Drift with 20 acres of outstanding plants. Further south we stop off at the Crinan Canal, an amazing feat of engineering linking the Sound of Jura with Loch Fyne. This year we try a spot of Channel Island hopping and our base for this adventure is Guernsey; the second largest of the Channel Islands boasting beautiful scenery, rural calm and a mild climate. There are over 20 curving bays and beaches, miles of spectacular cliff walks, winding lanes and hours of sunshine to enjoy. St. Peter Port is the capital of Guernsey and is a town of narrow cobbled streets offering an extremely good selection of international fashions, local crafts and duty free prices. During our stay we visit the islands of Herm and Sark, both fascinating, quiet and peaceful and home to a spectacular variety of wildlife and rare seabirds. The Peninsula Hotel Guernsey is ideally situated on a sandy beach on the north-west coast of the island. It’s name stems from it’s location, with a wonderful view over Grand Havre Bay from the front. THE COTSWOLDS AND THE PUDDING CLUB Staying at The Three Ways House Hotel, Mickleton, Chipping Camden

When it comes to an image of idyllic rural England, few regions in Great Britain can compare to the sleepy, honey-stoned village image of the Cotswolds. Here time seems to slow down, where age-old traditions and local life remain comparatively undisturbed. During our short break we pass through many of the pretty villages with a guide on board the coach to tell us all about them, we take a steam train ride through the countryside and complete our tour with a visit to Bourton House’s award winning gardens.

The Three Ways House Hotel is the famous home to The Pudding Club, founded in 1985 to prevent the demise of the traditional Great British pudding, and over the years they have been featured on the BBC’s Food and Drink Show and holiday programmes as well as numerous other TV and radio programmes. This year we have organised a cookery demonstration, the chef is going to prepare one of the delicious puddings and maybe let us in on a few trade secrets. Oh and yes we will get to sample the pudding!

The hotel is nestled in the pretty village of Mickleton and boasts an elegant lounge, Randalls Bar/Brasserie and The Restaurant. Montenegro is a small Balkan country situated in the south of the Adriatic, with rugged mountains, medieval villages and a narrow strip of beaches along its coastline. Lying just a twenty minute walk from the history steeped walled town of Budva is Becici our base for the tour, a stunning and sassy seaside resort on Montenegro’s up-and-coming Adriatic coast.
