Security from the Main Club will be closely monitoring this during 2014 and offending ve- hicles will be towed at the owners expense. This area is to be kept clear for ambulances. Volume 6, Issue 3 The parking area next to the Groundsman’s Shed and the Club Office is for the use of committee members and ground staff only. Last year, the groundsman was unable to perform some of his Pg. 3 duties as he was unable to access some of his equipment due to vehicles parked in this area and the owners could not be located. The gate for the gravel road coming down past the Village Green will be kept closed at all times. With the expansion of our player numbers the Village Green will be used more and more for train- ing and games and as such we don’t want vehicular traffic moving in that area as children will be chasing footballs down the hill and across the road. A Boom gate has been installed on the gate at the entrance to the ringroad around the Main Oval. This gate will open at 3.30pm each afternoon and all weekend. Access to the bottom oval and entry into the Sharks will be via - Langford Lane‖ off Musgrave Avenue between 5am and 3.30pm week-days. One needs to start by embracing our Club History; the past Players, Captains, Presidents and Premierships. Take the time to stroll through the ‘Hall of Fame’ and trophy cabinets in the Southport Sharks Sporting Club. Volume 6, Issue 3 We need to refocus on and strengthen our Culture by emphasising individual character and per- sonal leadership. This should start from an early age but needs to be fostered especially in our Youth age groups. Some qualities that need addressing include: Pg. 5 1. Understanding & Empathy. 2. Respect. 3. Co-operation. 4. Accountability. 5. Honesty. 6. Helpfulness. 7. Dedication. 8. Encouragement. 9. Pride. 10. Optimism. We need to remember; ‘It’s NOT what the club can do for you but what YOU can do for the CLUB.’ Our Club looks at developing, expanding and hopefully shaping the lives of our players and future ‘stars.’ This can ONLY be done with the full support of our player base and Parent Families. One cannot just rely on the dedicated ‘few’, who regularly give of their valued time, commitment and efforts, in becoming part of the Committee. We are all volunteers! The true success of a club depends on the unification of the Committee, Coaches, Managers, Team helpers, Playing Group and our Parent Families. We need to work as ONE! Don’t sit back waiting to be asked or involved, OFFER your assistance. Make offering to help, contagious. Set the ‘mantra’, “Happy, Helpful People make for Better Sharkies.” We shouldn’t need to be rewarded for what we do about the club, just know that in our hearts, we are helping someone and thus achieving Greatness for the Mighty Southport Sharks. It’s the ‘little things ‘that count.’ 1. Being organized ourselves, so we don’t leave things in the Change Rooms or rubbish around the grounds. Don’t be prepared to walk over or around something that you know shouldn’t be there. 2. Offer your help to assist in the canteen, BBQ or on game day. Don’t watch or stand by, when you see one of our volunteer helpers struggling with heavy loads to restock the can- teen, put up a tent or set the fields. “Many hands make light work.” 3. Respect our equipment and club facilities. We need to value what we have, so improve- ments can be gained in the future. Thus we set the CULTURE, otherwise known as ‘the way WE do things.’ What we stand for? What we accept? What we promote? These ‘little things’, set and develop THE CULTURE. Why complain, when as individuals, WE have the POWER within ourselves to come up with the solutions. We should ALL be striving to achieve the club’s most valued and prestigious awards. The Ken MacDonald and Club Person of the Year Trophies. The recipients of these awards will be the true upholders of our Club Culture. So don’t sit back, be proactive and make the 2015 season, the HAPPIEST, PROUDEST, RE- WARDING and MOST SUCCESSFUL YEAR EVER! Cnr Musgrave & Olsen Avenues, Southport QLD.
