This book has been such a labor of love. Cute boys in suspenders. It's like magical newsies without the singing or gangs of New York with magic. There is time travel, a badass girl thief, secret societies, a diverse cast, and so much more. I have loved writing these characters and this world and I hope you all love it too!! View all 21 comments. The plot is amazing, the characters are amazing, the magic is amazing, the world is amazing. The time traveling aspect is not in the least bit confusing of haphazard because it's written very well. The book follows Esta's journey into the past to retrieve a book that might just free all Mageus from the Brink. The Brink is The Last Magician: A Novel magical barrier that has trapped Mageus in Manhattan and trying to leave means risking being stripped of magic and The Last Magician: A Novel likely, your life. This was so good. Holy crap. View all 5 comments. How dare you leave me all alone with no one to talk about this? Why are you not reading this series? How are you all not obsessed with it? Why is there no fanart? Why is no one raving about these characters? Why is no one screaming about the wait for the third book? My mission will be convincing all of you to read this series right now. Yes, I was excited about it after hearing Ashley from A dash of ash talking about it, waiting two months for the library copy, and knowing it involved time travel. Unexpected result: I was in love at page The magic of this book is the atmosphere. Reading about s New York was such an experience. I loved referencing to the map as it helped me visualize the city. Everything felt so freaking real, from the actual city, description of buildings, places, people and the way they lived in that period. I still forget it, actually. Harte turned, walking backward for a few steps. The next amazing thing about this book is the cast of characters. They are so fleshed-out and incredible to read about! I loved all of them! Especially Harte aww what a cinnamon roll! Esta is the main female character who reminds me the most The Last Magician: A Novel Lila Bard. Of course I have a new OTP. This book has one of the most awesome and slow- burn enemies-to-lovers romances ever. Those two are such thickheads and they made me suffer but I loved it at the same time. I still remember the moment the book proved me wrong and wow, that felt so good. But that banter The Last Magician: A Novel. I kept turning pages to see where the story was going but also because I was impatiently waiting for Esta and Harte to meet again so they could argue with each other lol. The book is full of intrigue and gangs and twists and turns you never see coming. I swear everyone of the characters is part of a gang or something similar but they actually work for themselves. You never know if a certain minuscule thing that The Last Magician: A Novel happens is going to change everything in an instant, like completely deleting The Last Magician: A Novel from existence. Claessens 5723728 Dr. Johanna Hoorenman 13-07-2018 BA Thesis English Literature and Culture Claessens – 5723728 Abstract Diversity is an increasingly important subject in today’s society. This importance is reflected in literature, but not all genres seem to follow this trend. Traditionally, the fantasy literature genre is male-dominated, with a strong preference for male heroes. Raymond E. Feist’s Riftwar Cycle is a fantasy novel series which focuses heavily on quest narratives and other epic fantasy tropes, such as heroism, adventure and sword-and-sorcery. This novel series also has an abundance of male heroes and under-represents its female characters. This thesis analyses eight novels of The Riftwar Cycle and shows the imbalance between male and female characters, as well as their roles in the story. At best, female characters form 30% of the cast, with equivalent dialogue. Furthermore, female characters are often marginalised, put in traditional roles or a victim of sexism. It shows that this sub-genre of fantasy literature still has improvements to make to diversify. 2 Claessens – 5723728 Content Introduction: Fantasy and women – they are limited………………………………………………...4 Chapter 1: Theory, Fantasy and Statistics………………………………………..…………………..7 Chapter 2: Magician and Silverthorn……………………………………………………………………….10 Chapter 3: Shadow of a Dark Queen and Krondor: the Betrayal……………………..……………..….15 Chapter 4: Talon of the Silver Hawk and Flight of the Nighthawks……………………………………..18 Chapter 5: A Kingdom Besieged and A Crown Imperilled…………………………………….………….21 Chapter 6: Conclusion………………………………………………………………………………25 Works Cited…………………………………………………………………………………………27 3 Claessens – 5723728 Introduction: Fantasy and women – they are limited The fantasy genre has long been a literary genre focused on writings by male authors and written for a male audience.

A demon must have been controlling me when I did, because I have no memory of a having read it before or b having written a review of it before. Once again, I was thrilled to be on an amazing roller-coaster of a ride, as I followed old favourites, along with some new characters, and still got a buzz at not being able to totally guess where the plot was leading me!
