This workshop examines how to storyboard, convert, package, and deploy interactive, engaging training using PowerPoint. It leverages lessons learned from an award winning project. Each participant will learn how to overcome Power-Point limitations, design interactive games, and create highly-engaging learning solutions. You will receive a CD-ROM with extensive PowerPoint resources, including game models, role-based simulation exercises, test templates, and example programs to facilitate rapid implementation back on the job. Learn how to storyboard, convert, package, and deploy interactive and engaging training using PowerPoint. Learn to: • Determine how and when PowerPoint makes sense for e-learning. • Build a PowerPoint file for e-learning, including storyboards. • Import audio, video or Flash to enhance your WBT. • Design engaging learning activities using PowerPoint, including games and role-based simulations. • Convert PowerPoint files to Flash, HTML or other formats. • Implement tests and quizzes effectively in PowerPoint. • Deploy PowerPoint-created e-learning, with or without an LMS. • Reduce development costs, develop courses faster, eliminate maintenance challenges, and lower overall cost of ownership. Exit the file 3-47 Lab 1: Setting up Your WBT File Goal: Set up your navigation by using Action Settings to navigate to the Next Slide, Previous Slide and First Slide. Incorporate performance support functions using hyperlinks. Prepare your PPT for rapid import of learning activities. 1. Click/Open PPT file: 1-Setup File & 7-Add Learning Activities 2. Navigate to the Master slide. Do you see a navigation bar example positioned in the master file at the top? 3. Edit the course title and lesson title on navigation banner in the Slide Master file. You may improve on its design. 4. Create navigation (Up, Back, Next) between each slide: a. Add Action Settings to the navigation icons provided in slide (Back, Up, Next). 4-47 b. Hint: Slide Show>Action Settings>select Hyperlink (next slide, first slide or previous slide). Select Highlight click. 5. Click run slide show (screen). Using the navigation icons, see if numbers (Page 1, Page 2, Page 3, etc) change on the bottom right of the screen. Try moving forward and back. If not repeat process. 6. Return to the Master Slide view. Insert performance support hyperlinks for each of the buttons (Reference, Glossary, Email and Notes) a. Hint: Click object (right mouse click)>Insert>Hyperlink>Existing File or Web Page>Select 1-glossary is in your Lab Assignments folder>Click OK>Repeat b. Tip: Is this lesson module going to be accessed through a Main Menu screen. If yes, where might you place a Main Menu button and/or Home symbol action button? o p q n c. Please see Tip below if you discover your insert hyperlink has changed the font c olor to a light green! d. For the email: Click object>Insert>Hyperlink>Email Setting>Configure Email>Complete both the Subject and To fields e. For the notes page: I copied the notepad application in your folder to make it easy to add this function to your PPT WBT. This application can be found by searching on notepad.exe or WordPad.exe depending on your version of windows. 7. Save your work! 8. Advanced assignment: How would you add and activate the Menu button to navigate to a Main Menu Screen? If you don’t like the navigation bar on top how might you position on the bottom of the screen? Why does my hyperlink text change to funny hard to read colors when I insert a hyperlink? PowerPoint has default colors that can be modified to suit your desires. Here are the rather challenging steps to modify hyperlink colors: Click Format>Slide Design>Color Schemes>Edit Colors>Accent and hyperlink or Accent and follow hyperlink>Change Color>Apply How do you turn off the PowerPoint Default navigation? Hint: Check out slide transitions and consider configuring your file as a Kiosk only program. 5-47 Lab 2: Implement Splash Screen and Main Menu Goal: Edit a Main Menu, link your splash screen to a Main Menu and link the Main Menu to a lesson. Explore the wide range of entrance, exit, emphasis and motion paths under custom animation. 1. Click on PPT file: 2 – Main Menu with Splash Screen 2. The Splash Slide will open. PowerPoint for Web-Based Training 3. Edit the text, add graphic treatment, music to suit your topic. Hint: Access animation features: Slide Show>Custom Animation>Add Effect> Set speed and time. Be sure to try out a wide range of effects including: - Entrance - Emphasis - Exit - Motion Path 4. Edit the Main Menu screen. Add you own effects to this page as well. 6-47 5. Create navigation to another slide show (module). 6. To create a hyperlink to each lesson module you may select the text and insert a hyperlink or draw a colored box set transparent around course title and graphic or highlight text. Path: Select box>Insert>Hyperlink>select PPT file (This is also how you hyperlink to reference materials and URLs). Note: Action Settings can be used for this as well. 7. The hyperlink method is to highlight the text to be hyperlinked and insert hyperlink as show below: 8. A second technique is the draw a colored box set to transparent over the text and hyperlink from the transparent box. I have found through trail and error that some conversion software work better with this technique. 7-47 9. Click the object>Box File (bucket) dropdown>Select More Fill Colors>Slide Transparency over to 100% transparent. 10. The colored box will now appear transparent of the Menu page. Make sure your lines around the box are set to No Line Color. 11. Now you are ready to insert your hyperlink as described above. 12. Save your work! 8-47 Lab 3: Importing Audio Goal: Add audio to custom animation screen object. Add audio sound file to screen. Configure sound file to play between two or more screens. 1. Open the 3-Audio Import PowerPoint file. 2. Add audio associated with a specific object appearing on a specific screen. This is most commonly used for PPT, HTML or Impatica deployment: 3. To add audio to your file: Select Object>Click Slide Show>Custom Animation>Add Effect>Select Object drop down menu>Click Effect Options>Select Sound drop down menu – Other Sounds>navigate to Sound Music File Folder>select Music>Click OK. n p q o r 4. Sound files associated with specific screen graphics, text and object will play on the associated screen but not between screens! See the instructions below for how to play audio between screens.

It’s not very challenging though, and it could use some more work to make it become a more solid experience for anyone that plays it. Before making a new version of Breakout, create a new folder and name it Breakout Task 2. Open the previously create game and save it in the Task 2 folder as Breakout_”your name”_Task 2. This will not over right the first game but create a copy of it with a new name. This way, saving, there is no reason to worry that the original file is over written. 1. The first way to spruce up the game is by giving it a splash screen. Anyone who plays the game will see this screen as soon as the game launches and will really impact their first impression of the game. So a good splash screen is important. To make a splash screen, start by creating a new room. Right click on the Rooms folder and choose insert room or click on the create a room icon in the tool bar. The first room was named room1, so this one will automatically be named room2. 2. This naming isn’t really specific, so rename the rooms by right clicking on the room and choosing rename. Change the new room’s name to Splash and the orig- inal room in which the game is played to Game. 3. Double click on the Splash room to open it.
