  • Preliminary Phytochemical and Antimycobacterial Investigation of Some Selected Medicinal Plants of Endau Rompin, Johor, Malaysia
Journal of Science and Technology, Vol. 10 No. 2 (2018) p. 30-37 Preliminary Phytochemical and Antimycobacterial Investigation of Some Selected Medicinal Plants of Endau Rompin, Johor, Malaysia Shuaibu Babaji Sanusi*, Mohd Fadzelly Abu Bakar, Maryati Mohamed and Siti Fatimah Sabran Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Pagoh Educational Hub, 84600 Pagoh, Johor, Malaysia. Received 30 September 2017; accepted 27 February 2018; available online 1 August 2018 DOI: https://10.30880/jst.2018.10.02.005 Abstract: Tuberculosis (TB), the primary cause of morbidity and mortality globally is a great public health challenge especially in developing countries of Africa and Asia. Existing TB treatment involves multiple therapies and requires long duration leading to poor patient compliance. The local people of Kampung Peta, Endau Rompin claimed that local preparations of some plants are used in a TB symptoms treatment. Hence, there is need to validate the claim scientifically. Thus, the present study was designed to investigate the in vitro anti-mycobacterial properties and to screen the phytochemicals present in the extracts qualitatively. The medicinal plants were extracted using decoction and successive maceration. The disc diffusion assay was used to evaluate the anti-mycobacterial activity, and the extracts were subjected to qualitative phytochemical screening using standard chemical tests. The findings revealed that at 100 mg/ml concentration, the methanol extract of Nepenthes ampularia displayed largest inhibition zone (DIZ=18.67 ± 0.58), followed by ethyl acetate extract of N. ampularia (17.67 ± 1.15) and ethyl acetate extract of Musa gracilis (17.00 ± 1.00). The phytochemical investigation of these extracts showed the existence of tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, saponins, and steroids.

CONSTRUCTION Sector report Toll hikes: NPV neutral impact 15 Oct 2015 OVERWEIGHT Mak Hoy Ken (Maintained) [email protected] 03-2036 2294 Rationale for report: Sector update Investment Highlights Higher toll rates from 15 October. The local press reported that toll charges for 18 highways in Malaysia will be raised between RM0.10 and RM3 effective from today. Out of this total, 12 are major highway concessions operating within the Klang Valley: Kuala Lumpur-Karak (KLK) Expressway, Maju Expressway (MEX), Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway (SILK), Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE), Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel (SMART), KL-Kuala Selangor Expressway (LATAR), Sungai Besi Highway (BESRAYA), New Pantai Expressway (NPE), Kajang Seremban Highway (LEKAS), Damansara Puchong Highway (LDP), Western Kuala Lumpur Traffic Dispersal Scheme (SPRINT) and Cheras- Kajang Highway (Grand Saga). Other highways that follow suit include the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE), Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE), Kemuning Shah Alam Highway (LKSA), Ampang Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH), Senai Desaru Expressway (SDE) and Butterworth Outer Ring Road (LLB). Status quo for PLUS-owned highways. Altogether, toll rates for all eight highways under government-backed PLUS Expressway Bhd remained unchanged at this juncture. They are the North South Expressway (NSE), New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), Federal Highway Route 2, Seremban Port Dickson Highway, North South Expressway Central Link (ELITE), Second Link Malaysia Singapore (Linkedua), Butterworth Kulim Expressway (BKE) and Penang Bridge. Part of fiscal consolidation moves. We believe this is part of Malaysian government’s move to meet its budget deficit target of 3.2% for 2015 (2014: 3.5%) and support its sovereign rating amid a challenging global economic backdrop.

  • Chapter 9 Environmental Management Plan (Emp)
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT (EIA) Proposed Development of Household E-Waste Recovery Facility at Cenviro Eco-Park, Lot 8436, Mukim Jimah, Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan CHAPTER 9 ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLAN (EMP) 9.0 Introduction This chapter presents the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) which has been formulated for the proposed development of household E-waste recovery facility to assist in the management of the potential issues identified in Chapter 7 to ensure proper implementation of the proposed mitigating measures. Also part in this chapter present the Emergency Response Plan (ERP), which provides procedures and actions to be taken in the event of an emergency outbreak at the project site. 9.1 Environmental Management Plan An Environmental Management Plan (EMP) is recommended to be outlined in order to manage all the potential issues identified in the report. EMP is a practical tool for the implementation of mitigation and protective measures identified in the EIA. The plan relates anticipated project activities to sensitive environmental factors, outlining policies and procedures for the protection of the environment. The outcome will minimize the risk of costly, time-consuming environmental issues, while maximizing productivity, bottom-line performance and goodwill. The main elements of the EMP are: i) Legislative and contractual requirements and conditions that need to be observed and complied with; ii) An administrative setup (i.e. safety, health and environment unit) to be responsible for environmental management with well defined organization structure, manpower requirements, and responsibilities of personnel; iii) Monitoring programmes for ambient air, water, groundwater, noise and odour measurements; and iv) Actions required and the reporting sequence for emergency responses during accidents or abnormal operations of the plant.

International Journal of Academic Research in Business and Social Sciences December 2013, Vol. 3, No. 12 ISSN: 2222-6990 The Perak Development Experience: The Way Forward Azham Md. Under the so called Perak Amanjaya Development Plan, some of the things that we have tried to do are the same things that I believe many others here are concerned about: first, balanced development and economic distribution between the urban and rural areas by focusing on developing small towns; second, poverty eradication regardless of race or religion so that no one remains on the fringes of society or is left behind economically; and, third, youth empowerment. Under the first one, the state identifies viable small- and medium-size companies which can operate from small towns. These companies are to be working closely with the state government to boost the economy of the respective areas.
