Dear Professor Nguyen Anh Ky,
On behalf of the Organising Committee of the Asian Science Camp 2014 (ASC 2014), we request for your assistance in inviting student delegates from Vietnam to participate in the ASC 2014, which will be held in Singapore from the 24th to 29th August, 2014 at The Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
The ASC is an annual forum which aims to enlighten those science-talented youths through discussion and dialogue with top scholars in the world and to promote the international friendship and cooperation among the best young students of the next generation in Asia. The participating students are those selected from High Schools and Universities (1st and 2nd year) who show keen interest and promise in science.
The idea of ASC was first mooted in 2005 after the Lindau Science Meeting by Professor Yuan-Tseh Lee, the 1986 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, and Professor Masatoshi Koshiba, the 2002 Nobel Laureate in Physics. Modeled after the Lindau Science Meeting which has been held in Germany for more than half a century, the ASC will provide a platform for dialogue and discussion between promising young talents and invited Nobel Laureates and Eminent Scientists. It will also help to develop international friendships and cooperation among Asian young scientists of the next generation.
ASC 2014 is organised by the Institute of Advanced Studies (IAS) at Nanyang Technological University with strong support from the Lee Foundation, the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation, Singapore. It is the 8th of the series, following successful camps at Taipei (2007), Bali (2008), Tsukuba (2009), Mumbai (2010), Daejeon (2011), Jerusalem (2012) and Tsukuba (2013). At ASC 2014, the student delegates can look forward to stimulating lectures by world- renowned Nobel Laureates and Eminent Scientists, Plenary Sessions, Parallel discussion sessions, poster presentations, social activities and sightseeing tours. The working language will be English.
We would like to invite 6 students along with one accompanying person (it is compulsory for one person to accompany the representing students) from Vietnam as delegates to ASC 2014. The students need to have keen interest and be outstanding in the natural sciences (including Physics and Chemistry), from High School (11th and 12th grade) or University (1st and 2nd year) - 16 years and above, up to 21 years. Strong proficiency in oral and written English along with genuine interest in Science and Research is a pre-requisite. They are required to attend all the sessions of the ASC 2014 and must attain all the necessary permissions from their educational institutions to attend this event.
Institute of Advanced Studies We strongly request you take the initiative to announce ASC 2014 in the desired institutions of Vietnam. We will greatly appreciate it if you could conduct a thorough selection process in enlisting the 6 delegates and an accompanying person. We look forward to getting your list of selected delegates by April 1st, 2014. If more than 6 students are selected, we encourage you to seek the organising committees’ approval.
As the participation in ASC 2014 is through invitation only, there will be no registration fee charged for your delegates and the organising committee will provide the participants' living and local expenses associated with ASC 2014. To facilitate wider prospective students to participate in this program, the committee will also set up the ASC Fellowship for a limited number of deserving students from developing countries. The Fellowship will provide support to fully or partially cover for their travel expenses to Singapore. More details on accommodation and program will be communicated later.
Kindly take note that the committee will not support the round trip airfare for the participants (other than those on the ASC Fellowship) and will not be held responsible for any medical expenses incurred by the participant during the Camp. We recommend that all participants purchase suitable travel and medical insurance in their respective country before departure.

Attend all the activities of the Asian Science Camp 2014 (ASC 2014) from 24 to 29 August 2014 at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore.
Understand that the organizing committee will provide participants’ living and local expenses associated with the ASC 2014: - Accommodations at the Nanyang Executive Centre from 24 to 29 August 2014 (6 nights) - Meals from 24th (evening) to 30th (morning) August 2014 - Transportation from the Changi Airport to NTU on 24th August 2014 - Transportation from NTU to the Changi Airport on 30th August 2014
Understand that the airfare will not be supported by the organizing committee (except for a limited number of participants on ASC fellowship).
Stay in the accommodations provided by the organizing committee and follow the rules of the accommodation operator.
Ensure passport has a minimum 6 months validity upon departure, and obtain visa (if applicable) prior to commencing travel to Singapore.
Follow the instructions of the accompanying teacher and the organizing committee members at all time.
Understand that the organizing committee will not be responsible for medical expenses incurred by the participants during ASC 2014.
Purchase appropriate travel and medical insurance in my country/region before attending ASC2014.
Allow any images (photographs or videos) taken during the ASC2014 to be used for the purpose of documenting this event and promoting future ASC events on the websites, in printings, and in any other means.
Complete a questionnaire evaluating the ASC 2014, which will be used for the report of the event.
