46 47 CAFe CULTURE and COFFEE

Among global consumers, coffee consumption is moving beyond being just a daily habit to becoming part of a lifestyle. For some, their morn- ing ritual will not be complete without a cup of coffee, either at home, on-the-go or during a social get-together at a café.

Coffee appears to be the second-most consumed beverage in the world, after wa- ter. It is, however, significantly more than just a beverage. Considering the growing global demand for coffee, new trends are being observed in the South African coffee market. We have become obsessed with the social side of coffee. From those who stand in line every morning at seven a.m. waiting for their cup to grab-and-go, to the visitor who sits leisurely at a window-seat reading a newspaper or watching the world go by, to meeting up with friends at a coffee shop; all fall within this new trend. Then, there are also the solitary coffee drinkers, alone with their thoughts, and alone with their cups of coffee. Coffee is about savouring the moment. Listed below are some firm favourite meeting places that fall within the coffee shop sector and serve great coffee as well as a tantalizing menu: • Bocadillos, 42 6th Avenue, Walmer, tel: +27 (0) 41 581 1523 • Bocadillos, 1th Avenue, Walmer, tel: +27 (0) 41 581 8081 • Cobblestone Bakery, 6th Ave., Walmer, tel: +27 (0) 41 581 0182 • Como Caffé, 86 Heugh Rd, Walmer, tel: +27 (0) 41 581 2798 • Co.
