Normative notions of family and kinship perpetuate the exclusion of those who do not conform to the heterosexual norm. At the same time the increased visibility of kinship arrangements that evade the heterosexual script and their claims for legal recognition, expose the fragility and the constructedness of heteronorms. During the Prodi II Government (2006-2008) the possibility of a law recognising legal status to de facto unions stirred a major controversy in which the conservative political forces and the Catholic hierarchies opposed any form of recognition, with particular acrimony shown toward same sex couples.

    PUCCINI’S TUSCANY: he Italian composer Giacomo Puccini a wine lover’s guide (1858-1924) was Tproud that he came not just from Tuscany, but Perhaps the greatest of the operatic composer’s many love affairs was the one he had with from Lucca – and that all the houses he owned his home region of Tuscany – and its wine and cuisine. Follow in his footsteps for a charming were entirely on Lucchese territory. This northwest corner of Tuscany, with its long-weekend getaway among vines and history, says Adrian Mourby dramatic mountains, Art Deco beach resorts and ancient walled cities, is an affluent wine- producing area. Puccini himself would have drunk early vintages of many of the wines still bottled here today. The most romantic opera composer of his generation, Puccini was a great lover of food and wine, with a clubhouse that he built in the reeds of the idyllic Lake Massaciuccoli. Here, in sight of the Apuan Alps, he used to cook meals for his friends and serve them the basic wines of Lucca. To follow in Puccini’s footsteps – and gain an insight into why he loved his home region so much – base yourself in Lucca, the imposing, walled city of his birth and childhood. It has a Roman street plan, churches full of art, several boutique hotels and many charming restaurants. The province of Lucca has long produced wine, even prior to Roman times. Records show that in AD1334, it sold nearly 17,000 barrels of rosso to its great rival, the city of Florence. The imposition of Napoleon’s sister, Elisa, as princess of Lucca in 1805 brought French influence to local viticulture, with Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Semillon, the Pinots Blanc and Gris, and dependable Merlot joining the indigenous Grechetto, Malvasia, Trebbiano, Vermentino and Colorino grapes.

It is the capital city of the Province of Lucca and is most famous for its intact Renaissance walls, which surround the city. Besides, Lucca is a destination for many tourists thanks to its beautiful churches and wonderful museums. History In the 3rd century B.C. Lucca came under the Roman domination and it became an important Municipality in 89 A.D. Significant remains of the Roman Period are the Amphitheatre and the ruins of the defensive walls, though these are severely damaged. The city prospered under the Lombards, who created the Via Francigena and turned Lucca into the capital of Tuscia. In the 13th century Lucca became an important commercial centre in Europe, famous for its silk. In 1314 the city was conquered by the Tyrant of Pisa, Uguccione Castracani, who brought power and prestige to the city. During the 19th century Lucca was a very rich and a powerful city under the guidance of Maria Luisa Borbone from Parma. With the plebiscite of 1860, the city became part of the Kingdom of Italy. 3 4 Itinerary Our tour starts from “Porta Sant’Anna”, one of the six gates. We can see that the city is surrounded by about four kilometres of Walls. Lucca had four rings of walls. The first, built by the Romans, had always a square shape and encircle the city centre today.

    CITY and WATER Pietrasanta 26 agosto 2017 La VERSILIA - TUSCANY The origin of the name "Versilia" dates back to the idiom Ves (s) idia (the ancient Germanic Wesser / Wasser = water), from which in the Middle Ages came the "Versilia" form by consonant dissimilation. The name of the region was mainly given by the Ruosina canal that historically corresponded to the fluvius Vesidia of the "Tabula Peutingeriana", which near Seravezza, joins with the Riomagno, coming from the southern slope of Monte Altissimo, the current Versilia river. La VERSILIA – Mountains, sea, lake and cities From a naturalistic point of view, the area is characterized for its diversified natural landscape comprising the majestic mountains of the Apuan Alps. Lake Massaciuccoli and the marshland areas are the most lovely and delightful areas of the Regional Park. Our lake is a venue of great historical and environmental importance, celebrated also by the famous composer Giacomo Puccini, but above all there is a local community that has built a civilization and a system of activities of old tradition that need to be studied and recovered, such as the construction of little woodboat called barchini, used from hunters and fishermens, cultivation of red rice and so on. The Versilia territory covers an area of about 160 square kilometres on the North-Western Tuscan coast. From an administrative point of view, it is a part of the Province of Lucca, including the municipalities of Camaiore, Forte dei Marmi, Massarosa, Pietrasanta, Seravezza, Stazzema and Viareggio. The area has always hd a natural tourist vocation as balneotherapy treatments started here during the second half of the 19th cent.
