Picture quaint, charming villages tucked within the Maine coastline that burst into vibrant waterfronts and towering peaks with stunning scenery along with deep gorges and amazing waterfalls in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and that’s what you’ll experience this June! Join us as we search for puffins on Eastern Egg Rock and moose in the mountainous wilderness along with an exploration of deserts, jails and castles and everything in between.

Day 1. As we make our way towards Maine, we’ll stop in Storrowton Village, featuring nine authentic 18th and 19tth century buildings from and New Hampshire all assembled around a traditional town green. As we browse the village, we’ll learn more about the history of New England and the story of Helen Storrow. An included lunch will be enjoyed at the Storrowton Tavern, an authentic New England tavern comprised of two antique buildings. Our next stop, Maine! The Haraseeket Inn with its 23 fireplaces, antiques, award winning restaurant and ideal location steps away from your favorite outlet stores and boutique shops welcomes us to Freeport. There will be time to explore the town and find a great restaurant for dinner on your own.

Day 2. The morning can be spent leisurely with a long breakfast or further exploration of downtown Freeport. Don’t forget to visit the L.L. Bean Flagship store! Now it’s time to be on the lookout for puffins! Our cruise will take us up close to the rocky shore of Eastern Egg Rock, a popular stop for many varieties of migratory birds, especially puffins. We will circle the island in search of these unique birds typically found swimming in the water or loafing on the rocks. Our cruise also offers spectacular views of the Camden Hills and take us past the Franklin Island Lighthouse, Monhegan Island, the islands of Muscongus Bay. After an included lunch with a harbor view, we’ll visit the picturesque Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. If you’re up for a climb you will find amazing views from the top of the lighthouse tower. If you’d rather keep both feet closer to the ground, you can browse the Fisherman’s Museum in Keepers House and view works of local artists in the Pemaquid Art Gallery. The rest of the evening will be spent relaxing at the Haraseeket Inn and around town.

Day 3. This morning we will visit a desert in the middle of a forest! Our tour of the Desert of Maine will teach us the natural history of how these sand dunes were formed and of the legendary Tuttle barn dating back to the

1700s. We will spend the remainder of the day in the historic town of Wiscasset, known as the prettiest village in Maine. Here we’ll visit Castle Tucker which sits dramatically on a hill overlooking Sheepscot River. The castle tells the story of a prominent shipping family’s life on the coast of Maine over a period of 150 years. Our tour will also delve into the Victorian lifestyle and its social norms, tastes, and styles. Next is the Nickels-Sortwell House, a stunning Federal style mansion where we’ll hear stories of life in the gilded age when Wiscasset was a charmed summer getaway. Still one more sight to see, the 1811 Old Lincoln County Jail. Our tour here will offer a rare view into an earlier justice system and the lives of the people who endured and enforced it. The highlight of our time in Wiscasset may possibly be the chance to have the world’s best lobster roll at Reds Eats, known to cause “the biggest traffic bottleneck in Maine”. If lobster isn’t your thing there will be plenty of other options in the quaint downtown to choose from for a delicious lunch on your own.

Day 4. Today we head to moose country! We’ll have a scenic, mountainous drive on our way to lunch in Lincoln where we take a break from our journey and breathe in the fresh, crisp air. The views will get more expansive as we climb 4080 feet to the summit of Cannon Mountain on a spectacular aerial tramway. At the top we will enjoy panoramic views of the distant valleys and mountains on the observation deck. The rest of the afternoon can be spent relaxing at the luxurious and historic Mountain View Grand Resort and Spa. We’ll enjoy an included dinner in the comfort of our hotel before heading out on our evening moose safari. An experienced wildlife guide will take us on a comfortable ride in search of these huge, majestic animals. Get your camera ready!

Day 5. This morning we head back to New Jersey with a very intriguing stop along the way; a maze of man- made chambers, walls and ceremonial meeting places dating back 4000 years. Yes, it’s America’s Stonehenge! It has been determined that this site is an accurate astronomical clock and can still be used today to determine specific solar and lunar events of the year! We’ll watch an introductory film and then have the opportunity to walk around this amazing creation. After, we’ll have a satisfying included lunch that will make the trip back home go quickly and comfortably. © 2020 Group Tours & Travel
