BP Mustang Owners Club of Southeastern Michigan The Mustang Owners Club of Southeastern Michigan was founded in November 1975 by a group of individuals with the desire to protect and preserve the Ford Mustang as one of the most attractive and fun filled cars ever made available. We are enthusiasts of all ages with a love affair of the many generations of America’s Premiere Pony Car. Whether it’s a coupe, convertible or fast back from 1964 ½ to the new 2005 GT or the 2007 Cobra, we love them all. The mission of club members is to collect, restore and preserve the history of the Mustang along with the stories of the people and the roles that they played in making this one of the great cars of the 20th Century. Although ownership is not a requirement for membership, your enthusiasm, expertise and and/or love of the automobile are most welcome. Many of our club members own one or more Mustangs in varying body styles, models and years. Club members are always exchanging information, providing sources for parts, literature and helpful hints for restoring or maintaining their Mustangs. Our members are a diverse group of individuals, located throughout Southeastern Michigan and all share a great appreciation for the Ford Mustang. Our general membership meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Our monthly newsletter, The Accelerator, provides the members with reports on club activities, technical information, advertisements and business ACCELERATOR – MOCSEM Newsletter PAGE 1 PRESIDENTS MESSAGE Sometimes I don't get the inspiration to write a president's message on a single topic, so I decided to take the "blog" approach this month. I will try to keep my thoughts coherent. • We failed to mention last month that the amended MOCSEM By-laws included in the March newsletter were unanimously approved. Thank you for voting. • April was the first club meeting this year at Mama Mia's where we were only able to use half of the banquet room. This can happen any month where another party wants to book the other side of the room, but there usually is not much demand for a room on Tuesday night. We have worked out an agreement with the restaurant that will free up additional seating space when we only have the half room. • Meeting attendance has been strong and many members are also enjoying the pizza buffet. In order to be considerate of the restaurant, we need to ask that members who wish to eat please arrive no later than 7:00PM so the restaurant can stop replenishing the buffet at 7:15PM. The buffet will open at 6:15PM. Also, the drink pitchers at the bar are for members who have paid for the buffet. If you only want a drink instead of the buffet, you can purchase a drink from a waitress or purchase a glass from Doreen Davis that can be used with the drink pitchers at the bar. • It's nice to see members taking advantage of the nice weather and the large parking lot to bring their Mustangs to the club meeting. It makes for interesting conversations before and after the meeting. • The most effective way to recruit new members to the club is for current members to approach friends that also own or are interested in Mustangs. Offer to pick them up and bring them to a meeting, or invite them to a club event. Be sure to introduce them to other members and don't let them sit alone in the corner. • Our 11-month old 2006 Mustang car battery went dead the other day after the car sat for 1 week (NO, the lights were not on). Has anybody else had similar issues with the newer cars? • We had a strong turnout at the first Cruise-in to Culvers in Westland on April 15th. Over 30 members were present. As always the food was good, the ice cream was better, but the company was the best! Be sure to check the club calendar in each newsletter to find out about upcoming MOCSEM events. See pictures on Page 5. • Our very own Mustang Memories All Ford Car Show and Swap Meet will be held this year on August 12th. Major Sponsor and Trophy Sponsor letters are now available so we can start approaching businesses to participate in the show. Businesses or individuals can sponsor trophy classes for $100/class. Please think about asking any businesses you have asked in the past and any other companies that may have an interest in the show. We are off to a good start with commitments from Hines Park Ford, Auto Alliance International (Home of the Mustang), and Livernois Motorsports. Show flyers will be available at the May meeting and will be posted on the MOCSEM website very soon. We should have information regarding the show committees at the May meeting. Contact Mike Rey or myself for more info. • Those of you who attended the Village Ford Spring Swap Meet may have noticed the flyer for two of our major prizes that will be raffled at Mustang Memories this year. We have a 10-drawer Craftsman Tool Chest and a Mustang Children's Powercar by Fisher- Price. Raffle tickets are available for both of these items to be sold prior to and during the show. We are also recording names and phone numbers on the tickets so the winner does not need to be present at the show to win. Hopefully this allows the club to reach more people than on just the day of the show and will result in more ticket sales. We will be selling raffle tickets at a number of MOCSEM events during the summer. Contact Jenny Root or Phyllis Berk for tickets. • Ford showed the new Shelby GT500KR at the New York Auto Show. With only 1000 of these beasts being made, how much will they sell for over MSRP? • My wife and I really enjoy our new Ford Edge. It is the first Ford vehicle where I have heard Kathy rave about it to other people. We also have had a number of people come up and ask about it at gas stations and Kathy’s workplace. Hopefully it is a sign of better things from Ford. Neil Holcomb, MOCSEM President 734-459-4704 [email protected] ATTENTION MOCSEM MEMBERS: We will be having a Model Car Display at the May 7th General Membership meeting to kick off our first cruise of the season, which is May 19 to the Stagecoach Stop in Irish Hills. Run what you Brung. Anything goes; trains, planes, automobiles & trucks, but we will not tolerate any RICE BURNERS, if you have a favorite model bring it for show. No judging, just all show-no go, Bragin’ Rights ACCELERATOR – MOCSEM Newsletter PAGE 2 MOCSEM GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING MINUTES 4-10-07 Board members present: Mark & Phyllis Berk, Kathy & Neil Holcomb, Mike Sove, Mike Rey, Doreen Davis, Jenny Root, and Jodi Holmes. • The Cannonball What
Vol 32No 07 July 2015 The Cannonball What ??? By Diane Lambert Match the team with their ride: JJ McClure/Captain Chaos Ferrari 308 GTS Jamie Blake/Morris Fenderbaum Aston Martin DB5 Jill Rivers/Marcie Thatcher Subaru GL 4WD Jackie Chan/Michael Hui Lamborghini Countach Seymour Goldfarb, Jr. Dodge Tradesman Ambulance Think back to where you were and what you were driving (if you were driving) in 1981. Ah Ha ... the smiles are starting to take shape, the memories are resurfacing, the fun that you had in your fave car are now at the forefront, and you're ready to ride! Sorry, got a little carried away. Anyway ... Once again Jack and I had a blast going to the "Drive- In" at the Coleman Garage a/k/a The Lemke Brit Car Haven on June 13th. As we like to do, folks arrived, chose a choice viewing spot inside then meandered chatting and enjoying the camaraderie and the overall ambience. Dennis Wunsch was the grill master for the evening, and there was an abundance of delicious dishes to fill us up. And then, of course, what's a drive-in movie with candy and popcorn? There were bags of popcorn and lots of movie candy being passed around and ice cold refreshments in the cooler! What more could anyone want??? In typical fashion, the movie for the evening was not revealed until show time. For those who ei- ther have not been to this event (hard to believe!), one of the requirements is that the movie should be a comedy, contain elements of disbelief, a bit of playful deceit, race car drivers and babes, and of course, great cars and road races! Getting the picture? The Cannonball Run is a 1981 comedy starring lots of well knows actors such as Burt Reynolds, Roger Moore, Dom DeLuise, and Farrah Fawcett to name a few.

  • He Top Car Movies Ever Made and the One You Voted As the Best Vehicular Violence and Cool Cars Always Make a Movie Better
he Top Car Movies Ever Made and the One You Voted as the Best Vehicular Violence and Cool Cars Always Make a Movie Better. Here AreOur Top 40 Picks of the Best Car Movies on DVD - Vote for Your Favorites! Hot Rod Magazine, October, 2006 4 The final results are in and the winner of the best car movie of all time, as chosen by you, is "American Graffiti." The contenders were the winners from the intial voting on the best movie from each era. There were some obvious winners but some surprises as well. In the 50s to Early 70's era "Bullitt" won handily, which is no shocker, by garnering 64% of the votes. "Amercian Graffiti" easily won in the Early 70s to Mid 70s category with 42% of the more than 2000 votes. "Smokey and The Bandit" won with 33% of the votes in the Mid 70s to Early 80s era, but "Blues Brothers" (15%) and "Hollywood Knights" (10%) weren't too far behind. The major surprise was in the Early 80s to 2000s era. The remake of "Gone in Sixty Seconds" with 29% of the votes edged out "Ronin" (16%) and "The Road Warrior" (14%) to take the honors. Anyone who was watching the totals knew this was a fairly up-and-down race as "The Road Warrior" was in front at one point while "Ronin" quickly caught up in the last few weeks but fell short. So, it was down to "Bullitt" vs. "American Graffiti" vs. "Smokey and The Bandit" vs. "Gone In Sixty Seconds." Here are the results from the Final Four voting: "Bullitt" (1968): 21% "American Graffiti" (1973): 52% "Smokey and The Bandit" (1977): 14% "Gone In Sixty Seconds" (2000): 12% Thanks to all of you who voted! If you missed the review of the Top 40 Car Movies Ever you can check out the whole list starting just below.
