Compendium Kangaroo COMPENDIUM KANGAROO Math Kangaroo Competition 2003-2020 Gerard Romo Garrido Toomates Coolección Los documentos de Toomates son materiales digitales y gratuitos. Son digitales porque están pensados para ser consultados mediante un ordenador, tablet o móvil. Son gratuitos porque se ofrecen a la comunidad educativa sin coste alguno. Los libros de texto pueden ser digitales o en papel, gratuitos o en venta, y ninguna de estas opciones es necesariamente mejor o peor que las otras. Es más: Suele suceder que los mejores docentes son los que piden a sus alumnos la compra de un libro de texto en papel, esto es un hecho. Lo que no es aceptable, por inmoral y mezquino, es el modelo de las llamadas "licencias digitales" con las que las editoriales pretenden cobrar a los estudiantes, una y otra vez, por acceder a los mismos contenidos (unos contenidos que, además, son de una bajísima calidad). Este modelo de negocio es miserable, pues impide el compartir un mismo libro, incluso entre dos hermanos, pretende convertir a los estudiantes en un mercado cautivo, exige a los estudiantes y a las escuelas costosísimas líneas de Internet, pretende pervertir el conocimiento, que es algo social, público, convirtiéndolo en un producto de propiedad privada, accesible solo a aquellos que se lo puedan permitir, y solo de una manera encapsulada, fragmentada, impidiendo el derecho del alumno de poseer todo el libro, de acceder a todo el libro, de moverse libremente por todo el libro. Nadie puede pretender ser neutral ante esto: Mirar para otro lado y aceptar el modelo de licencias digitales es admitir un mundo más injusto, es participar en la denegación del acceso al conocimiento a aquellos que no disponen de medios económicos, en un mundo en el que las modernas tecnologías actuales permiten, por primera vez en la historia de la Humanidad, poder compartir el conocimiento sin coste alguno, con algo tan simple como es un archivo "pdf". El conocimiento no es una mercancía. El proyecto Toomates tiene como objetivo la promoción y difusión entre el profesorado y el colectivo de estudiantes de unos materiales didácticos libres, gratuitos y de calidad, que fuerce a las editoriales a competir ofreciendo alternativas de pago atractivas aumentando la calidad de unos libros de texto que actualmente son muy mediocres, y no mediante retorcidas técnicas comerciales. Este documento se comparte bajo una licencia “Creative Commons”: Se permite, se promueve y se fomenta cualquier uso, reproducción y edición de todos estos materiales siempre que sea sin ánimo de lucro y se cite su procedencia. INTRODUCTION [This paper, entitied the "Gardens Reach of the Brisbane River," describes the growth of shipping from the inception of Brisbane's first port terminal at South Brisbane, which spread and developed in the Gardens Reach. In dealing briefly wkh a period from 1842 to 1927, it men­ tions some of the vessels which came here and a number of people who travelled in them. In this year of 1965, we take for granted communications in terms of the Telestar which televises in London an inter­ view as it takes place in New York. News from the world comes to us several times a day from newspapers, television and radio. A letter posted to London brings a reply in less than a week: we can cable or telephone to London or New York. Now let us return to the many years from 1842 onward before the days of the submarine cable and subsequent inven­ tion of wireless telegraphy by Signor Marconi, when Bris­ bane's sole means of communication with the outside world was by way of the sea. Ships under sail carried the mails on the long journeys, often prolonged by bad weather; at best, it was many months before replies to letters or despatches could be expected, or news of the safe arrival of travellers receivd. Ships vanished without trace; news of others which were lost came from survivors.

    PRIVILEGED ATTORNEY-CLIENT COMMUNICATION EXECUTIVE SUMMARY SECOND AMENDED AND RESTATED LICENSE AGREEMENT (“SPIDER-MAN”) CREATIVE ISSUES This memo summarizes certain terms of the Second Amended and Restated License Agreement (“Spider-Man”) between SPE and Marvel, effective September 15, 2011 (the “Agreement”). 1. CHARACTERS AND OTHER CREATIVE ELEMENTS: a. Exclusive to SPE: . The “Spider-Man” character, “Peter Parker” and essentially all existing and future alternate versions, iterations, and alter egos of the “Spider- Man” character. All fictional characters, places structures, businesses, groups, or other entities or elements (collectively, “Creative Elements”) that are listed on the attached Schedule 6. All existing (as of 9/15/11) characters and other Creative Elements that are “Primarily Associated With” Spider-Man but were “Inadvertently Omitted” from Schedule 6. The Agreement contains detailed definitions of these terms, but they basically conform to common-sense meanings. If SPE and Marvel cannot agree as to whether a character or other creative element is Primarily Associated With Spider-Man and/or were Inadvertently Omitted, the matter will be determined by expedited arbitration. All newly created (after 9/15/11) characters and other Creative Elements that first appear in a work that is titled or branded with “Spider-Man” or in which “Spider-Man” is the main protagonist (but not including any team- up work featuring both Spider-Man and another major Marvel character that isn’t part of the Spider-Man Property). The origin story, secret identities, alter egos, powers, costumes, equipment, and other elements of, or associated with, Spider-Man and the other Creative Elements covered above. The story lines of individual Marvel comic books and other works in which Spider-Man or other characters granted to SPE appear, subject to Marvel confirming ownership.

    A. J. Chittick Page 0 THE AUTHOR Alan Chittick, younger son of Gladys and Nelson Chittick, of Kangaroo Valley, spent the first 18 years of his life in that district. He was educated at Kangaroo Valley Public School, Nowra High School and Sydney University, graduating in 1949 with Honours in Veterinary Science. Since 1952 he has been a large animal veterinary practitioner in Moss Vale, for the past 15 years mainly in the equine field. He has been involved with horses in many aspects as a hobby throughout his life including show horses, ponies, gallopers and trotters and has maintained a small standard bred stud for some years from which have come some good winning trotters and pacers. Admits to a fascination with the Twenties and Thirties, which extends to the social history, literature, films and popular music of the era as well as the equestrian and other sporting events of the time. This largely personal memoir of his family's involvement with the shows of that era is an offshoot of a more extensive work about the best known jumping horses and personalities in the Australian show rings in the first half of the century which he has been researching over the past five years. lt is now nearing completion and awaiting a publisher. While commercial success is not always consistent from one decade to the next it is clear that the medium has been and will continue to be a cultural staple in the society of the United States. I have selected this type of popular culture for analysis precisely because of the longevity of the medium and the recent commercial success of film and television adaptations of comic book material. In this project I apply a Critical lens to selected comic book materials and apply Critical theories related to race, class, and gender in order to understand how the materials function as vehicles for ideological messages. For the project I selected five Marvel comic book characters and examined materials featuring those characters in the form of comic books, film, and television adaptations. The selected characters are Steve Rogers/Captain America, Luke Cage, Miles Morales/Spider-Man, Jean Grey, and Raven Darkholme/Mystique. Methodologically I interrogated the selected texts through the application of visual and narrative rhetorical criticism.
