Last Days Pt. 6 Last Days pt. 6 Revelation 19:11-16 11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. 12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. 13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. 15 Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. NKJV Christ Glorious Appearing Intro: Over the past twenty years of my life there is one question that I have been asked often by people from all walks of life, “What will the Last Days be like?” With my personality and detailed brain, I cannot answer that one question with one answer. Actually, that is because there is not one answer to that question. The Last Days is actually a sequence of events that will unfold over the pages of time and over many lands and over many years. To help each of us get a better grasp on what I am sharing I thought this visual outline may help… Outline: 1. Last Days Preparation 2. The Rapture 3. The Tribulation 4. The Antichrist 5. The Great Tribulation 6. Christ’s Glorious Appearance to Judge and to Wage War 7. The Millennium 8. The Final Judgement 9. The New Heaven and The New Earth You see there are actually 9 major events that will encompass what most call the Last Days. These 9 major events will be the basis of the 9 sub-sequential messages of this Last Days series here at Rochester Assembly in the weeks to come. So now let’s prepare to turn our attention to the sixth message of this series, Christ Glorious Appearing Message: After there is an escalation of the Last Day preparations, after The Rapture of the Saints, after The Tribulation, The Rise of the antichrist, and The Great Tribulation, then will come Christ Glorious Appearing. The Glorious Appearing of Christ… 1. Will be His return, with the raptured saints, and His angels, II Thess 1:6-10; Jude 14-15; Rev 19:14. II Thess 1:6-10 6 since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you, 7 and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, 8 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, 10 when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed. Jude 14-15 14 Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints, 15 to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.” Rev 19:14. 14 And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. -The tribulation period will have been unfolding on the earth. -At its culmination Christ will return for His 2nd advent. -Those raptured saints will return with Him. -The angelic armies of heaven with be with Him. -He will return in power, in control, and will set up His 1,000-year reign. *So many have forgotten, left out and even over looked this glorious event of Christianity but I have not, I will not, and pray you shall not! The Glorious Appearing of Christ… 2. Will be the gathering together of tribulation saint, Matt 24:31; 25:31-40, 46; Mark 13:27; Rev 20:4. 3. Will catch unbelievers unprepared, Matt 24:38-39, 43. 4. Will be when He separates the people on the earth, Matt 13:40-41, 47-50; 25:31-46. 5. Will cause the nations to be enraged, Rev 11:18. 6. Will cause saints to rejoice, Rev 19:1-8. 7. Will be when begins to destroy the ungodly, including the antichrist and Satan, Is 13:6-12; Ezek 20:34-38; Matt 13:41-50; 24:30, 25:41-46, Rev 6:16-17; 11:18; 17:14; 18:1-24; Rev 19:11-20:3. 8. Will be when tribulation saints receive their rewards, Matt 5:11-12; I Cor 1:12-14; 9:25-27; Gal 6:9-10; II Tim 4:8; Rev 20:4. I Cor 9:25 25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. II Tim 4:8 8 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing. Rev 4:20 4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. -After Christ has destroyed the false prophet, the antichrist and His enemies with the sword of His mouth, then He will see Satan bound for 1,000 years. -He will then set up His kingdom on this earth. -He will also set up and institute His followers, (those that died for him during the 7- year tribulation period) as rulers with Him in His new Kingdom. *Even though I would not desire to live through the tribulation period, this time on earth reveal to us Gods’ desire to still save those who come to faith in His Son and then to reward them in Christ coming rule and reign. The Glorious Appearing of Christ… 9. Will be when tribulation saints share in Christ glory and kingdom, Matt 25:31-40; Rom 8:29; II Thess 2:13-14; Rev 20:4. Matt 25:31-40 31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ 37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ 41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: Rom 8:29 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. II Thess 2:13-14 13 But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, 14 to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle. -After Christ has destroyed the false prophet, the antichrist and His enemies with the sword of His mouth, then He will see Satan bound for 1,000 years.

  • The Millennial Position of Spurgeon
TMSJ 7/2 (Fall 1996) 183-212 THE MILLENNIAL POSITION OF SPURGEON Dennis M. Swanson Seminary Librarian The notoriety of Charles Haddon Spurgeon has caused many since his time to claim him as a supporter of their individual views regarding the millennium. Spurgeon and his contemporaries were familiar with the four current millennial views—amillennialism, postmillennialism, historic premillennialism, and dispensational premillennialism—though the earlier nomenclature may have differed. Spurgeon did not preach or write extensively on prophetic themes, but in his sermons and writings he did say enough to produce a clear picture of his position. Despite claims to the contrary, his position was most closely identifiable with that of historic premillennialism in teaching the church would experience the tribulation, the millennial kingdom would be the culmination of God's program for the church, a thousand years would separate the resurrection of the just from that of the unjust, and the Jews in the kingdom would be part of the one people of God with the church. * * * * * In the last hundred years eschatology has probably been the subject of more writings than any other aspect of systematic theology. Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-92) did not specialize in eschatology, but supporters of almost every eschatological position have appealed to him as an authority to support their views. Given Spurgeon's notoriety, the volume of his writings, and his theological acumen, those appeals are not surprising. A sampling of conclusions will illustrate this point. Lewis A. Drummond states, "Spurgeon confessed to be a pre-millennialist."1 Peter Masters, current 1Lewis A. Drummond, Spurgeon: Prince of Preachers (Grand Rapids: Kregel, 1993) 650.

  • Discussion Questions for Small-Group Consideration Or Personal Reflection
Study Guide Discussion Questions for Small-Group Consideration or Personal Reflection Chapter 1 How Popular Are the Left Behind Books … and Why? (Forbes) 1. Does some knowledge about the backgrounds of authors Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins influence the way you read the novels? Why or why not? If it does influence you, in what way? 2. Why do you think the Left Behind novels have been so popular? 3. On the basis of your acquaintance with people who have read the Left Behind series, do you think they read the books simply as entertainment? Are they attracted to the religious beliefs in the books? Does reading the books influence the viewpoints and the lives of readers? If so, in what ways? If not, why not? 4. One criticism of the Left Behind books, and of the belief system on which they are based, is that it creates an “us-versus-them” mental- ity. The complaint is that it divides the world too easily into good and bad, black and white, with no shades of gray. Do you think this is true? If so, is it a helpful way to look at the world or not? Chapter 2 How Did Left Behind’s Particular Vision of the End Times Develop? (Kilde) 1. Kilde observes that, throughout history, times of strife have prompted Christians to focus on ideas of the end times, while atten- tion to the end times has been less popular when things are going well for Christians. Why would this be the case? Is it true now? 198 Discussion Questions 2.

A Study Of Premillennialism By A Comparison With The Bible DISPENSATIONAL TIMELINE 1948 AD WHAT PREMILLENNIAL TEACHERS SAY “In short, the ‘last days’ or the ‘latter days’ usually refer to any point from just prior to the Rapture to the Glorious Appearing itself. While some references may refer to trends during the church age, most of them point to the seven to ten or more years, a period that pinpoints the end of ‘the times of the Gentiles’ to the end of the ‘Great Tribulation’ … ‘The last days,’ ‘the time of the end,’ and ‘the end of the age’ are terms leading up to the 7 year tribulation when this age as we know it comes to an end. It is preceded by the Rapture and followed by the Glorious Appearing” (Tim LaHaye, Are We Living In The End Times, pg. 18-19) ‘LEFT BEHIND’ AUTHOR • “No one knows for certain when Christ will return or whether we are really living in the end times. We believe however that Christians living today have more reason than those of any generation before us to believe that Christ could come in our lifetime. For example, all prophecy scholars agree that the generation that saw Israel restored to her land in 1948 could well be the ‘generation that will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.”’ • Tim LaHaye (Are We Living In The End Times?) ‘LEFT BEHIND’ AUTHOR • “When you examine all the ‘signs of the times’ that have been fulfilled in our lifetime, you have to believe the coming of Christ is very near.

  • The Rapture and Glorious Appearing of Jesus Christ
THE RAPTURE AND GLORIOUS APPEARING OF JESUS CIIRIST by Edward E. Hindson Th. D., D. Phil. Vice President There's Hope! Atlanta, Georgia Distinguished Visiting Professor Missouri Baptist College St. Louis, Missouri THE RAPTURE AND GLORIOUS APPEARING OF JESUS CHRIST The New Testament clearly teaches that Jesus Christ will "come again" (John 14:3) and "appear the second time" (Hebrews 9:38). At least nine biblical terms are used in the New Testament to describe the return of Christ.1 1. Ho erchomenos. "The coming one," as in Hebrews 10:37, "For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come." 2. Erchomai. The act of coming. Used often of Christ's return. Cf. Matthew 24:30; John 14:3; 2 Thessalonians 1:10; Jude 14; Revelation 1:7; 22:20. 3. Katabaino. To "come down" or descend, as in 1 Thessalonians 4:16, "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout." 4. Heko. Result of one's coming, to have "arrived," as in Revelation 3:3, "I will come as a thief." 5. Parousia. Denotes arrival and presence (of a ruler), as in 1 Thessalonians 2:19, "For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?" 6. Apokalupsis. Meaning to "unveil" or "uncover." Rendered "appearing" (1 Peter 1:7) or "coming" (1 Corinthians 1:7) or "revelation" (Revelation 1:1). Involves the unveiling of His divine glory. 7. Phaneroo. To "appear" (John 21:1) or be "manifest" (1 John 3:5).
