Planning Under Way for ‘First of the Friends’ Exhibition Gloria Goddard has accepted the position of convenor for the First of the Friends exhibition to be held in Adelaide in September this year. Artists, students, former teachers, lecturers and current staff of SASA who are members of Friends are invited to exibit in the exhibition, to be held from 7 September - 2 October in the Kerry Packer Civic Gallery, Hawke Building, City West Campus of UniSA. The official opening will take place at 5.30pm on Monday 7th September. Gloria Goddard was born in South Australia and educated as an art teacher at the University of Adelaide, Adelaide Teachers College and the South Australian School of Art from 1960 to 1972. She taught art in secondary schools for 15 years before becoming a lecturer at North Adelaide School of Art, where she lectured in painting, design, concept development and fibre construction. She lectured at O’Halloran Hill TAFE and was guest lecturer at Sturt CAE until 1981. She has travelled widely overseas and throughout Australia, and has exhibited her work in solo and mixed exhibitions with several awards and commissions. Her work is in numerous galleries, and she has more recently been on the selection committee for TARTS. Gloria will be supported by an experienced group of member artists - Brian Budgen, Yvonne East, Helen Stacey, Toni Corso and Rob Johnston. We are fortunate in having the beautiful Civic Gallery as our venue for the exhibition, and we look forward to members’ participation towards making this ‘First of the Friends’ a great showing. The event will be supported by The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre, and proudly sponsored by Michael Scarpantoni of Scarpantoni Estate Wines.
