Sullivan Press Release 216.430.2190 Oct 10, 2018 [email protected] CLEVELAND, OH –The Reminger Foundation recently granted $10,000 toward PRACTICE AREAS the creation of a scholarship fund in honor of our departed colleague and Appellate Advocacy friend Martin T. Galvin. The Lawyers Guild of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland established the “Martin T. Galvin Memorial Scholarship Fund” in conjunction with the Catholic Community Foundation in an effort to promote the value of a Catholic high school education and to honor Marty’s legacy. The first recipient of the $1,000 scholarship is Kevin Cook from Saint Ignatius High School. He was presented with his award at a luncheon following the Lawyers Guild Red Mass, held October 5that the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. As part of this event, the Saint Thomas More Award was presented, in addition to a special recognition award to three retired Bishops of Cleveland: Bishop emeritus Richard Lennon, Bishop emeritus Anthony Pilla, and Auxiliary Bishop emeritus Roger Gries. Applications for the scholarship in the future will be open to students attending a Catholic high school within the Cleveland Diocese, and who have a family member who is either a member of the Lawyers’ Guild or a practicing attorney. Scholarship applications will be available at the guidance offices of all eligible high schools starting in January 2019 for next year’s submissions. “Marty would have been deeply touched knowing that his legacy would be helping students with access to a Catholic education,” said Brian Sullivan, an attorney with Reminger who also serves as the current President of the Lawyers Guild of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland. “Reminger is grateful to be part of this effort to keep Marty’s memory alive through the establishment of WWW.REMINGER.COM Cleveland | Akron | Cincinnati | Columbus | Ft. GALVIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND this fund.” Marty graduated from Saint Ignatius High School then continued his studies at American University in Washington D.C., where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. Marty received his Juris Doctor degree from The Ohio State University, where he was actively involved with the ABA National Moot Court Team and the Ohio State Journal of Dispute Resolution.He served as an attorney with Reminger from 2001 until his passing in 2018. Marty was active with the Lawyers Guild, the Irish American Legal Society, his parish, and other community and professional organizations.
