Not content with pinning parts down over a flat building board, many modellers today go in for building jigs. Lots of these are true engineering jig-fixtures, quite elaborate in conception and capable of being adjustd to various sizes of wings or tailplanes, different dihedral angles, and so on, to accommodate different model designs. The complete jig then gives positive and accurate alignment of ribs, spars, leading and trailing edges and ‘one piece’ assembly. Jig-fixtures— like the Broadfield Uni-Wing-A-Jig illustrated—are particularly useful for building wings with symmetrical or semi- symmetrical aerofoil sections quickly, accurately, and easily. Once set up, too. it is an easy matter to duplicate spare wings, etc., and know that they will be exactly the same. It’s a new technique which is gaining in popularity for building R/C and control line models; and there are a whole variety of different types and designs of jigs and fixtures becoming available. It’s still what comes out of the jig that finally matters, however. Whether you are a ‘pin it down flat’ modeller or a jig-builder, the resultant structure is only as good as the balsa you put into it—and however much methods change, balsa is still unrivalled as an air­ frame material where performance counts. Jigs can speed construc­ tion and help you build more accurately, but it will still be the quality of balsa that counts in the long run. We don’t know an awful lot about building jigs (so please do not write us for further information): but we are very experienced in balsa. Our whole job is to produce the best possible balsa for aeromodelling use. That, in fact, is what the Solarbo name has meant for a long, long time—the best balsa you can buy, anywhere. MARVELLOUS FOR MULTI Multi channel control is probably what most radio control enthusiasts seek, eventually, to achieve. But all c o n t ! ° * too often, introduction to this more advanced stage of the radio control hobby is fraught with problems brought about by sheer lack of knowledge of the subject. The crankcase extends upwards to just above the level of the exhaust ports, where it is widened so that the flange on the cylinder sleeve drops down inside until arrested by an annular seating in the casting. The finned cylinder jacket then drops over the cylinder sleeve and screws into the top of the crankcase so that its lower edge butts against the liner flange, thereby securing the com­ plete cylinder assembly. The cylinder ports are of the radial type. Three exhaust ports are located at 120 degree intervals through the flange and below them are three slit type transfer ports.
