Abstract Climate change is one of the biggest problems facing the world today due to its negative effects on human health and ecosystems. It is important to evaluate society's awareness of climate change to avoid this problem. Understanding the drivers of climate change attitudes is critical, as an action to address climate change is dependent on public awareness. Therefore, this research was carried out to identify the level of awareness and knowledge of climate change of residents in the province of Bilecik. In order to collect data, a questionnaire consisting of 11 questions was applied to randomly selected 508 people. Statistical approaches have been used to test the data collected from questionnaires. • An Ottoman Global Moment
AN OTTOMAN GLOBAL MOMENT: WAR OF SECOND COALITION IN THE LEVANT A Dissertation submitted to the Faculty of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences of Georgetown University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy In History By Kahraman Sakul, M.A Washington, DC November, 18, 2009 Copyright 2009 by Kahraman Sakul All Rights Reserved ii AN OTTOMAN GLOBAL MOMENT: WAR OF SECOND COALITION IN THE LEVANT Kahraman Sakul, M.A. Dissertation Advisor: Gabor Agoston, Ph.D. ABSTRACT This dissertation aims to place the Ottoman Empire within its proper context in the Napoleonic Age and calls for a recognition of the crucial role of the Sublime Porte in the War of Second Coalition (1798-1802). The Ottoman-Russian joint naval expedition (1798-1800) to the Ionian Islands under the French occupation provides the framework for an examination of the Ottoman willingness to join the European system of alliance in the Napoleonic age which brought the victory against France in the Levant in the War of Second Coalition (1798-1802). Collections of the Ottoman Archives and Topkapı Palace Archives in Istanbul as well as various chronicles and treatises in Turkish supply most of the primary sources for this dissertation. Appendices, charts and maps are provided to make the findings on the expedition, finance and logistics more readable. The body of the dissertation is divided into nine chapters discussing in order the global setting and domestic situation prior to the forming of the second coalition, the Adriatic expedition, its financial and logistical aspects with the ensuing socio-economic problems in the Morea, the Sublime Porte’s relations with its protectorate – The Republic of Seven United Islands, and finally the post-war diplomacy.

REPUBLIC OF TURKEY ONDOKUZ MAYIS UNIVERSITY INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS OFFICE ERASMUS OFFICE SAMSUN GUIDE Samsun is a distinctive and important tourism destination which is home to the thousand year cultural heritage of the Anatolia and the Black Sea Region dating from the time of Amazons to the Ottoman Period. With its natural beauties 1 including streams, waterfalls, lakes and forests, its therapeutic thermal springs, its local architecture, its rich cuisine and rousing festivals, Samsun is a place of great interest. Situated in the northernmost part of Anatolia, along the shores of the Black Sea, the Samsun region comprises a fertile land cut through by the deltas of the Kizilirmak and Yeşilirmak rivers. Samsun (ancient Amisos) was founded on a spot known colloquially as the 'Mesopotamia of the Black Sea'. Administratively it is subdivided into the counties of Alacam, Asarcik, Ayvacik, Bafra, Çarsamba, Havza, Kavak, Ladik, Ondokuzmayis, Salipazari, Tekkekoy, Terme, Vezirkoprü, Yakakent, İlkadım, Canik and Atakum. The city is a hub for rail, air, sea and road transport systems, with easy links to the cities along the Black Sea coast as well as the central parts of Turkey. HISTORY Samsun was one of the important cities of the region which was known as Paphlagonia in antiquity. The earliest settlements in Samsun dates back to the Old Stone Age (Palaeolithic Era) according to the findings from the caves situated to the south of Tekkekoy. Samsun also fostered settlements in the Middle Stone Age (Mesolithic Era) and the New Stone Age (Neolithic Era); and the Dundar Tepe Mound indicates that a civilisation flourished there during the Chalcolithic (Copper) and Bronze ages.
