UCI’s official partner, Red Bull Media House produced the 2019 Mercedes- Benz UCI Mountain Bike World Cup and did broadcast the series for the seventh consecutive year after delivering a 12% increase in viewership compared to 2018. The broadcast was experienced through Red Bull TV, the company’s free, on demand platform available on the web and as an app on Smart TVs, mobile phones, gaming consoles and more. With 62 hours of live programming, UCI fans worldwide had access to every stop of the World Cup without geo-blocks that traditionally come with live sports.
Beside the live broadcasts, Red Bull Media House also produced recap programs and a large number of additional clips for fans to go beyond race day and dive deep into the competitors, race locations and latest news on the sport. The additional programming was syndicated through Red Bull Media House’s owned and managed channels including RedBull. com and on social media.
In 2019, the partnership continued to secure a large TV audience. IN TOTAL, 114 TEAMS FROM 27 COUNTRIES ARE REGISTERED FOR THE 2020 SEASON. ANDORRA HAS REGISTERED A TEAM FOR THE FIRST TIME. THE TEAMS ARE SPLITTED AS FOLLOWS: 72 ENDURANCE TEAMS, 37 GRAVITY TEAMS AND 5 MIXED TEAMS.
As in previous years, 30 teams (15 Endurance teams and 15 Gravity teams) have been awarded UCI ELITE Mountain Bike status. Invitations to join this higher tier of teams were issued to the top 15 Endurance (XC) teams of a special ranking which was established based on the individual UCI points won by the riders in the UCI XCO individual ranking of 07.01.2020. Invitations to the top 15 Gravity (DHI) teams were issued on the basis of the 2019 final individual World Cup standings and the World Championships results.
UCI ELITE Mountain Bike teams benefit from advantages including free entry to all races on the UCI Mountain Bike International Calendar in the discipline in which the team has ELITE status. This includes free entry, and an obligation to enter at least one rider, into all rounds of the Mercedes- Benz UCI Mountain Bike World Cup.
